ADVENT MAGIC ON LAKE WÖRTHERSEE
When the Advent markets around Lake Wörthersee open their doors on 21 November, one of the most magical times begins again with atmospheric music, culinary delights and arts and crafts. Once again this year, the entire lake presents itself with four appealing destinations: Velden, Pörtschach, Maria Wörth and the Pyramidenkogel. South of Lake Wörthersee, Ferlach is also home to a small and very attractive Advent market.
Velden becomes the angel city during Advent. Fabians puzzle rally, Fabians Engerl-Treff or the floating Advent wreath with its 80,000 lights are just some of the highlights of the Velden Advent.
You can quickly reach the ‘Lakeside Village’ on the lakeside promenade in Pörtschach by boat on Lake Wörthersee Schifffahrt or the S-Bahn. Carinthian customs, open fires, an
Advent trail of lights or a torch-lit hike create a contemplative atmosphere here. The pilgrimage site Maria Wörth presents itself in the preChristmas period with ecclesiastical sounds. Advent tours are also offered in the almost 900-year-old winter church
The romantic Advent market is located directly beneath the churches on the banks of this peninsula.
The Advent villages of Velden, Maria Wörth and Pyramidenkogel can also be easily reached by bus shuttle!
The lookout tower on the Pyramidenkogel can be seen from far and wide across the entire region. At 920m above sea level, is the highest wooden observation tower in the world at 100m high. At the foot of the tower, visitors can enjoy a cosy Advent market with regional craftspeople and music groups.

Every year during the Advent season, a very special magic lies over the well-known Lake Wörthersee metropolis. The entire town of is transformed into a romantic city of angels and is the backdrop for one of the most beautiful Advent markets in Austria.

Carinthia‘s first barrier-free Advent invites everyone to enjoy the pre-Christmas period in a decelerated, magical ambience. Highlights include a romantic star boat trip through the Pörtschach Bay, a living nativity scene at Landspitz and a storyteller who takes children on magical fantasy journeys around Lake Wörthersee.
Those who like it sporty can try their hand at cold bathing or Christmas tree diving. Culinary delights await during the quiet Advent with regional Christmas fish and the specially created Pörtschach mulled wine, which warms body and soul.

The Pyramidenkogel is not only a special experience for the whole family in summer. During the most contemplative time of the year, the ‘Advent above the clouds’ opens its doors here.
Under the world‘s highest wooden observation tower, the municipality of Keutschach am See invites to the traditional Advent market with a varied programme. At 920 metres above sea level, guests can enjoy a unique panoramic view of the wintry Carinthian lake landscape. At the foot of the tower is the cosy, atmospheric Advent market with products from the Alps-Adriatic region as well as traditional crafts. There are high-quality products from the farm as well as organic honey products, jams and dried fruit. A special feature of the market are the local musical contributions. Small groups, whether choir or instrumental groups, play live and without electricity at the Advent market. Warming seats by fire bowls, fragrant chestnuts and delicious mulled wine delight the hearts of the guests and put the senses in the mood for the upcoming Christmas season.

The Maria Wörth peninsula gets its enchanting character from the two churches, which are called the ‘heart of Lake Wörthersee’ in the middle’ of the lake.
In the almost 900-year-old winter church, atmospheric Advent devotions and Advent tours take place. Tranquil, contemplative - Maria Wörth shines in the glow of lanterns and invites you to the romantic Advent market right on the lake at weekends (boat landing stage Maria Wörth). Here, visitors to warm up at the Christmas stalls of the Advent market by the fire bowls and enjoy the Advent atmosphere with culinary Advent baked goods and Advent delicacies. Small but mighty - Ferlach‘s Advent magic
The Advent market in the gunsmith town of Ferlach always takes place on Fridays. Ferlach clubs and businesses exhibit their products in the Advent huts. Including a small supporting programme, which is organised by the kindergartens, primary schools, the music school and choirs.
Krampus run: The Ferlach Krampus run with Krampuses from the Rosental valley and from all over Carinthia will also take place on the main square in 2025. At the beginning of the run St Nicholas also comes and gives presents to the children.
Klagenfurt (15.11-24.12.2025)
The wonderful Renaissance old town of Klagenfurt with its colourful facades and romantic corners and courtyards takes visitors along various paths to places where a magical Christmas atmosphere arises in the Advent season in the provincial capital.
