Disposal Yard Waste Pickup Info: Collections will run each week on Wednesdays through November, 2025. If you have questions regarding garbage or yard waste, please contact Gills at 815-233-5644. An acceptable (and preferrable) container for yard waste is: biodegradable brown paper bags and are available for purchase at local grocery and hardware stores. Also, will take 32-gallon garbage cans, but must be clearly marked with a large “X” visible from all sides. Gills will pickup grass clippings, leaves and other yard waste. And also, branches & sticks - no larger than 4” in diameter and no longer than 3ft long if tied with twine in bundles, weighing no more than 25 lbs. Page 2

We’re back!!! The Westlake Village pool is scheduled to open on Sunday, June 1st. While there was a delay in opening - due to the application of the new pool deck - we are planning to extend the season a bit at the end if temperatures allow.
Water aerobics classes start on 6/10/2025 @ 8 AM and will run every Tues/Thurs through 8/7 with the exception of 7/8 & 7/10/2025 (for break week) Cost is free (for residents only).

How To Organize Your Garage Sale
When organizing a garage sale, you likely have two main goals: to get rid of clutter and to make some extra cash. And while it’s entirely possible to put a garage sale together without much forethought, being intentional with the overall organization from the start can contribute to your sale’s success and make it much easier for customers to shop your secondhand goods.
From cleaning items to figuring out your display, here are some tips and tricks for a successful garage sale..
Clean Your Items
Giving items a thorough cleaning is one of the most important steps you can take, as people are more likely to purchase items that look well maintained.
Organize by Categories
Sort your items into categories to present an organized display to help customers browse specific items such as housewares or clothing.

Give Everything a Price

While this isn’t a typical expectation for a garage sale, it can make the shopping experience more enjoyable. Use saved up grocer bags, and paper towels for fragile items.
Keep adequate cash on hand for making change
It is recommended to have at least $100 in cash for making change

The Bookworms normally meet the second Thursday of each month at 2:00 p.m. (This June meeting date was changed due to the WLV Garage Sales.) One member leads the discussion and brings a light snack. Good-bye is the saddest word we will ever hear!
How do you say good-bye to a Westlake Village icon? How do you say good-bye to a person who has been an integral participant of the Westlake Village communitylike Sharon Goldsand has been - all these years? Sharon was instrumental in spearheading the Neighborhood Watch program, the Bookworms Book Club and the Communications Committee for the Villager newsletter, and has been a tireless volunteer!
Sharon has not only been a participant in all things pertaining to Westlake Village, but a true friend! Always concerned for the welfare of her friends and neighbors, she listens and radiates a positive outlook on things. Every person needs someone likeSharonintheir life! WeloveyouSharon(in caseyoudidn’tknow)! Andwecan’tbelieveyouareactually moving over 1170 miles away! You will be missed, not only by the friends in your groups; the water aerobics, the Villager, and the Bookworms and we’re sure all your Mahjong partners, too, but all your WLV neighbors as well! Your presence has been a blessing, and your absence will be deeply missed! However, that being said, because you are such a dear friend alas, we can only wish you well a long life, going forward, and with all the love, happiness and goodwill you are so deserving of!

What did we learn?
There are 220 types of fish species. 115 types of reptiles. Safety is important! Always be aware of where your rod tip is, where the hook is moving and always take your rod with you to avoid stepping on a hook. Never play with your fishing pole like a sword, hockey stick, golf club or baseball bat! If using a small sharp hook‘setting’ the hook is not necessary, in fact, if you use force to try to set the hook, the fish could actually become a projectile and hit you in the face!
Handle the fish carefully! Blue Gil have a row of spine like little needles. Catfish’s whiskers are not stingers but they do have a single spike and fins with serrated edges! Walleye have sharp teeth! Handle with care!
Getting to know your neighbors could be your best line of defense when it comes to knowing when something “doesn’t quite look right” in your neighborhood!
Let them know when you are going out of town. Ask them to watch your house while you are gone. Have them collect your mail and packages. Bring in your garbage cans.
Looking out for each other is not only a great way to meet your neighbors, but also a very practical method of defense.

Our June Safety Tip is from Shannon Koehler. Shannon and husband Ross, have lived in Westlake for 18 years. Ross is a mechanical engineer, and Shannon works with several local animal welfare organizations. They have two children, Alayna who just graduated from College and William who is in his second year of college. Shannon said they love to travel as a family.
Shannon headed the Neighborhood Watch Program in 2019 and 2020, and Ross organizes the Beach Volleyball here in Westlake.

Take a late afternoon/early evening stroll through four of Westlake Village’s pristine private gardens. This event is promoted by the Westlake Village Communication Committee for the enjoyment of garden lovers to Celebrate the First Day of Summer, June 20th, 4:00-7:00 PM
Each garden location will have a host where tickets can be purchased. Start your tour at any garden. One ticket for all four gardens. Tickets are $5 per person (12 & under are Free). Get your ticket punched at each garden. If you visit all four gardens, you can enter to win the door prize! Be sure to write your name and phone number on your completed garden tour ticket and turn it in at any of the four locations. The winner will be contacted by phone.
Property owners are not liable for personal injury or lost items. No pets please. Weather Permitting - (The tour will be cancelled if it is raining and will not be rescheduled.)

12795 Edgewater Pointe“I plant flowers so that something is blooming all season long. In the bed on the west side toward the water, the daffodils bloomed in April. Now, miniature Irises bloom. Around the dock steps are phlox and a couple other blooming plants. The bed on the East side is a St. Francis garden; Daffodils have already bloomed, Rose bushes are ready to bloom, Easter Lilies around the statue will bloom in July, Black-eyed Susans will bloom in June and also by the mailbox. Around the house there are rose bushes about to bloom, mums which bloom in the fall, and other plants. In the front around the tree are mums that bloom in the fall. The lilies around the flag pole are to honor my dear friend, Tish Evers who almost reached her 90th birthday. ~ Rev. Jerry Kobbeman

Elaina Rager—State Basketball Records
At the time of the publication of the April Villager, the results of the IHSA Girls Tournament Individual State Records had not yet been made public.
Our WLV resident and PHS Senior girls BB player, Elaina Rager broke several records and tied one record! She broke the 3-point Field Goal Percentage record for both games combined (the semi and final game) with .693 (9-13). She also broke the record for the Highest 3-Point Field Goal Percentage in the semi-final game, Pecatonica vs St. Edwards (Elgin) with .833 (5-6). Elaina tied the record of 3-Point Field Goals (4) during the State Championship game against Carrollton. With 63 points, the team broke the State record of the most points scored in a State Championship game.
Huge congratulations to Elaina and her amazing team members. Best of luck to Elaina as she heads to Wright State College in several weeks to begin practicing with her new team. Congratulations also to Elaina’s father, Jason, who was an Assistant Coach for PHS Girls BB and has recently stepped into the role of Assistant Athletic Director at Rockford Christian School.
