Jean Twenge paid $43,000 for Presidential Speaker Series

WKU paid Jean Twenge, an author and professor of psychology at San Diego State University, $43,000 ahead of her keynote presentation Tuesday, according to a contract acquired by the College Heights Herald.

Twenge is contracted for a 50-minute keynote and 10minute Q&A for her presentation at the third Presidential Speaker Series. WKU is also responsible for hotel accommodations for up to two nights and “round-trip ground transportation in the event city.”

All other travel and event-related expenses are part of the $43,000 fee, according to the contract.

WKU was required to pay $22,000 within 21 days of the contract’s execution and $21,000 by October 21.

WKU Basketball wins season opener over Tennessee Tech

Double-digit nights from five Hilltoppers helped push WKU Men’s Basketball to an 82-70 win over Tennessee Tech for its season opener in Diddle Arena.

Senior forward Grant Newell and Redshirt Sophomore Teagan Moore led with 16 points.

“It wasn’t just me, it was a team effort. I tried to do as much as I could at the beginning,” Newell said.

More than 80 demonstrators stood in union solidarity Sunday afternoon with a Day of Action Rally in Circus Square Park.

The Kentucky State American Federation of Labor-Congress of Industrial Organizations gathered union leaders and members from across the state, as well as other community leaders and figures, to kick off the Kentucky AFL-CIO’s 36th biennial convention.

“You’ve got just about every union you can think of represented here, all labor and trades, multiple industrial unions,” said Jim Rogers, Vice President of United Steelworkers Local 550 in Paducah.

The presentation will teach student veterans and militaryconnected students about financial strategies tailored to military life and benefits, according to the WKU website.
