‘His memory lives on on the Hill’: WKU Alumnus, Pulitzer-winner Paul Schuhmann dies at 79
Paul Schuhmann, WKU and College Heights Herald alum, died in Louisville, Kentucky, on Friday, Oct. 10, at 79 years old.
Schuhmann left behind a legacy as a photographer and donor to WKU Student Publications.
Schuhmann met his wife, Ellen, when they were both students at WKU, working at the College Heights Herald. Following her passing in 2010, Schuhmann began the Paul and Ellen Schuhmann Student Publications Scholarship fund for journalism and photojournalism with a $100,000 donation.

Award-winning journalist Caitlin Dickerson will give a presentation on immigration and human rights on Thursday.
Dickerson, known for her reporting on immigration and human rights, will speak at 7 p.m. in the Jody Richards Hall Auditorium about “Life on the Move: The Global Refugee Crisis.” The presentation will be this year’s first Potter College of Art and Letters Cultural Enhancement Series (CES).

Things got ugly in a hurry as WKU Football dropped its first conference game of the season to FIU 25-6 Tuesday night.
The Panthers snapped the Hilltoppers’ winning streak at three games, going touchdownless in a conference game for the first time since Nov. 7, 2020, against FAU. The Panthers dominated time of possession and won the turnover battle to spoil the blackout.

WKU Football honored former quarterback Brandon Doughty at halftime of its Tuesday night matchup against FIU.
Doughty played five seasons at WKU from 2011 to 2015. He was a part of a Hilltopper team that went to three bowl games, leading them to back-to-back bowl appearances in 2014 and 2015 as a starter. After leading the conference in interceptions in 2013, he went on to lead the nation in passing yards and passing touchdowns in the 2014 and 2015 seasons.
