APPLICATION FOR DEFERRED ASSESSMENTS

2. HOW TO APPLY
§ Please consult your School/Department for your deferred assessment date § Deferred assessments where applicable may take place from 22 JUNE 2026 - 03 JULY 2026 (depending on your respective Faculty)
• Go to Student Self-Service Academic Information Application for Deferred Assessment Student Self-Service > Academic Information > Application for Deferred Assessment
§ Visit www.wits.ac.za/exams/deferred-examinations or consult your Faculty for more information
• Only complete applications (WITH SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS) submitted via formal Wits platforms will be considered • Applications must be made within 3 working days of the date on which the assessment is submitted/written

4. SPORTING & CULTURAL COMMITMENTS

Students selected to participate in sporting, cultural, or similar events as formal representatives of Wits, a province, or the country, may apply for a deferred assessment with relevant proof of such selection

• For illness during the assessment, the Chief Invigilator must be informed immediately, who will arrange for a visit to Campus Health (CHWC) • Proof from CHWC must be submitted with the deferred application •

5. RELIGIOUS & OTHER
6. TIMETABLE CLASHES
• A letter of support from a religious leader should be submitted with deferred applications for religious reasons
• In the case of a direct clash students have the choice to either defer one of the two assessments OR to write these assessments back to back in the extra time venue
• Applications for reasons other than those listed above will be considered on merit, and must be accompanied by relevant supporting documents • Travel and family events arranged during the assessment period are NOT grounds for deferment
• Students wishing to write back to back assessments, if applicable must contact the Exam and Graduation •

7. Academic Misconduct • Submitting fraudulent medical certificate is fraud and constitutes academic misconduct, and criminal offence • Sharing or promoting ways to get fraudulent medical notes = you are facilitating fraud Note: • The South African olice Services (SAPS) • The health profession inspectorate • Students engaged in misconduct may find themselves subject to the universities disciplinary action
Important points
Misreading the exam timetable is NOT a valid reason to apply for a deferred exam
Students who fail to sit for a deferred exam without providing adequate reasons for their absence, may not be granted a deferment in future
