The Witham Group is one of the largest independent lubricant manufacturers and paint suppliers in the UK. We are a privately owned, family run business, with our head office and lubricant manufacturing site based in Lincoln. Our distribution warehouse, trade shop, paint decorating centre and the home of Witham Motorsport, is based in Soham, Cambridgeshire.

Over the past century we are proud to have grown a rich heritage and strong reputation built on quality, looking after our people, our customers and the environment.

We operate throughout the UK and abroad, supplying our products and services to a full range of industries including agriculture, road haulage, marine and off-highway plant industries. We also supply many other sectors such as manufacturing, heavy engineering, motorsport, green energy, country estates and horticultural businesses.

We now employ around 50 employees across the 2 sites in Lincoln and Soham and have a customer focused sales team throughout the Midlands, Yorkshire and East of England.

We are strongly supportive of the United Kingdom Lubricant Association, which acts as the voice of the UK lubricants industry. It provides members with advice and information on current, future and pending legislation; monitoring UK Government departments and other agencies about proposed developments and helps lobby for improvements in legislation and regulation. Our Group Managing Director - Nigel Bottom is a VP of the UKLA Board of Directors and previous UKLA President.

ATIEL is the technical association of the European lubricants industry and has a Code of Practice, which provides guidance for developers and marketers of engine lubricants designed to meet current European performance specifications. As signatories to the ATIEL European Letter of Conformance, Witham Group are committed to the industry’s drive to use lubricants to help reduce CO2 emissions and improving fuel efficiencies, as well as keeping up to date with the latest technology requirements and specifications.

We are proud to be members of the VLS (Verification of Lubricant Specifications) which provides a credible and trusted independent means to verify lubricant companies. Being a part of these initiatives brings transparency to the lubricant market place and protects and educates the end user. Our Group Managing Director - Nigel Bottom is a Board Director of Verification of Lubricant Specifications. We also have representation on the VLS - Technical Review Panel.

UEIL - The Union of the European Lubricant Industry (UEIL) is the umbrella association of the European Lubricants Industry, representing their members and, in particular, the interests of SMEs and independent lubricant companies. To date, the UEIL represents more than 450 lubricant companies, who manufacture and distribute lubricant products under their own various trademarks throughout the European Union. With members in more than 22 European Countries and a unique collective experience of lubricants and the lubricants market, UEIL is the sole representative body for independent manufacturers of lubricants in Europe and has been recognised as such by the European Commission. It is UEIL’s policy to favour free and fair competition within the scope of prevailing EU and national laws. Our Group Managing DirectorNigel Bottom is past Chairman of the UEIL Technical Committee.

REVOLUTIONISING GLOBAL LUBRICANT BLENDING WITH

“The greenest kWh is the one you never use”…

The necessity to improve time, cost, and the environmental impact of the lubricant manufacturing industry, has driven Witham Group to develop and employ an innovative new blending system using ultrasound. “Blendtek”, as the process is called, removes the need for base oils and additives being heated at all, therefore eliminating the use of traditional gas and/or oil fired boilers for heat energy.

As a manufacturer of a huge range of different lubricants, this new technique enables us to blend thousands of tonnes of products using energy from solar panels and a simple 25 amp plug, saving time, energy and drastically reducing our carbon footprint. To blend a simple 10 tonne batch of oil product now takes less than 40 minutes, whereas previously the same batch would have taken 3 to 4 hours to complete in total.

“We believe we are the first company in the world to blend our lubricants in a carbon neutral way, using unique ultrasound technology and solar panels and this exciting breakthrough is all about changing the environmental impact of lubricant manufacturing in the first place. So many environmental schemes and businesses look to offset their impact by using “carbon dumps or sinks, and other environmental and climate protection projects. We have instead, come up with a way that prevents the creation of high energy use in the first place.”

OUR LUBRICANT SERVICES

BULK STORAGE TANKS

As part of our service, we can supply a range of specialist bulk storage tanks for workshops and outbuildings. We can help advise on the best way to install the tankswhich for standard sizes are free of charge! (Subject to a technical lubrication survey). Your lubricants are filled up in the colour coded tanks as required, and the tanks have sight gauges, taps or pumps and come labelled with the different product names and their application.

Simple, clean and easy to use, these tanks help keep your working space ship-shape, avoid spills from containers, helps avoid oil contamination and helps the environment by using less packaging. They also provide important health & safety requirements for lubricant storage.

OWN LABEL SERVICE

We offer a free Technical Lubrication Survey of all your vehicles, no matter how big or small and we help you keep track of which oil or grease, anti-freeze or brake fluid is right for which vehicle. Learn About the World of Lubricants - If you like vehicles, machinery, engineering or engines, then finding out about how lubricants are made is what we do best. We are delighted to welcome visitors throughout the year to our Lincoln HQ and manufacturing factory. From car clubs, young farmers, engineers, college students, apprentices, mechanics, classic and vintage car owners, to farming groups as well as distributors or just interested customers, visitors get lubricants explained, a history of the Witham Group and all the industries and sectors we work in as well as technical Q&A sessions, bespoke to the audience.

Along with some fun and good old fashioned Witham hospitality, we explain all about how lubricants are made, show how we take raw materials and blend with unique processes and additives to create all the different “recipes” that result in the wide variety of lubricants you can buy off the shelf. ANTIFREEZE & COOLANTS

We have the perfect range of Antifreeze and Coolants to protect your engines, whether an automotive, classic or heavy duty vehicle. Preventing frost damage, overheating and corrosion all year round, our products ensure reliable starts and less wear.

BLUE ANTI-FREEZE

Qualube Blue Anti-Freeze Is a general-purpose antifreeze, based on mono ethylene glycol, containing no nitrites, amines or phosphates (NAP free). This is an anti-freeze and summer coolant that provides maintenance free protection against freezing and boiling but also gives excellent corrosion protection in cooling systems when mixed with the appropriate amount of water. Often used in older vehicles or applications where a modern long-life coolant is not required. Qualube Universal Blue Anti-Freeze provides a high level of cost-effective protection to cooling systems.

QUALGUARD HD5X COOLANT CONCENTRATED OR 50/50 PRE MIXED

Qualguard HD5X Coolant is a blue/green ethylene glycol-based engine coolant concentrate formulated for optimum performance in heavy duty diesel engine applications but equally suitable for light duty use. It employs established inhibitor technology and is nitrite, amine,and phosphate (NAP) free. BTC Classification Type 3E. The inhibitors include organic acids in combination with borate and silicate to provide excellent corrosion protection in all applications. Meets most European & International standards.

Qualguard Si-OAT Coolant is either a concentrated or pre-mixed ready to use engine coolant based on monoethylene glycol. This product employs the latest antifreeze technology which combines the benefits of both organic technology and traditional mineral (silicate) technology. Si-OAT Coolant is suitable for both petrol and diesel engines and has been designed to meet the demands of OEMs who favour this combination of organic and silicate technology.

Qualguard ORATEC Coolant is a monoethylene glycol-based engine coolant and is available as either a concentrated or pre-mixed ready to use coolant. The additive package is designed with the latest inhibitor component technology to produce finished antifreeze, which is free of amine, phosphate & silicate. QUALGUARD PREMIUM BIO MPG COOLANT NON-AUTOMOTIVE

This biodegradable Antifreeze and Coolant is the “Green Alternative to Traditional Antifreeze”. Unlike traditional engine coolants that are based on glycol, a material derived from fossil fuels, this product is based on glycerine, a natural material that is derived from a renewable bio resource.

This Coolant is a low toxicity coolant concentrate (antifreeze) based on propylene glycol, is readily biodegradable to a biodegradation of 99.0% (OECD 301E) and is specifically suited for caravans (static & mobile) and environmentally sensitive winterisation storage, plus other non-automotive applications, giving protection against excess freezing conditions, elimination of deposit problems caused by use of hard water and improved anti-corrosion protection of all metals and alloys used in the system, especially the aluminium. With excellent anti-foaming characteristics, it is free from nitrites, amines, phosphates, borates, silicates and contains no other mineral additives.

Automatic transmissions are extremely complicated and sophisticated devices that require a specially formulated fluid to allow them to function correctly. Qualube FS ATF MF has been manufactured specifically to meet these requirements.

Qualube FS ATF MF can be used in a huge variety of Automatic Transmissions, Power Steering and Transfer Cases. This product is a high viscosity with proven performance in the field, although it may not deliver the fuel economy of lower viscosity products.

With over 6 billion miles of field test data, this multi vehicle ATF has a proven track record across a huge range of both passenger car and commercial vehicles.

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID

Qualube Automatic Transmission Fluids are composed of high viscosity index base oils, additive treated to give fluidity down to very low temperatures, together with good lubrication at high temperatures. Often used in power steering units and some hydraulic systems.

Qualube LHM+ Fluid (short for Liquide Hydraulique Mineral), is a high-performance hydraulic fluid designed for use in hydraulic suspension and braking systems in automotive applications. Mineral based with a high viscosity index which provides excellent flow rate performance even at extremes of temperature. This formulation has been manufactured by us since 1921 and has been used in numerous vintage tractors over that time. Using a specially selected additive treatment it avoids harsh detergent and dispersant levels whilst giving excellent protection to both the engine and transmission. Qualube Silicone Grease is a silicate thickened lubricating grease based on food grade silicone oil. This grease is suitable for food industries where lubricants may have incidental contacts with food stuff. It could be used for very low-loaded rolling bearings where an EPDM compatible H1 lubricating grease is required. The needs of motorcycles, ATVs and UTVs are distinct from that of passenger car oils and one unique example is the requirement for the fluid to lubricate the gearbox.
