Let’s get ready for some new films and special events as the OUTshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival Spring Edition returns to South Florida April 23 to May 3. The Festival is recognized internationally as one of the largest LGBTQ+ cultural festivals in the world, and the upcoming edition will take place in both Miami-Dade and Broward counties. OUTshine’s film lineup will present star-studded features, documentaries and shorts, including four international, nine North American, and six East Coast premieres from 20 countries.

The Festival will also showcase a new Opening Night Under the Stars, a Community Block Party Closing Night and an extended Fort Lauderdale run adding three more days of fun bringing cinema aficionados together in South Florida. Over 12,000 people from the Greater South Florida area attended OUTshine last year. Numerous other virtual viewers statewide also enjoyed some of the Festival films from home. Visit outshinefilm.com for additional information and to purchase your tickets to the films and parties.

Mark Gilbert, interim executive director of OUTshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival reminds us that “OUTshine was created to entertain, educate, and inspire film-loving audiences of all persuasions by presenting the best of emerging international, national, and local LGBTQ+ oriented films to South Florida. We strive to enrich our audiences while encouraging a sense of community by presenting international and culturally diverse films that offer historical and contemporary perspectives on the LGBTQ+ experience. Our message is that when you come to the Festival, you’re with friends.”
The Festival is proud to announce that its opening night film, The Dinner (La Cena) (Spain, 2025), described as a ‘delicious blend of tension, history, and irreverent humor,’ will be presented outdoors on Thursday April 23, at 7:30 p.m. at the Miami Beach Botanical Gardens. The Dinner is set in the turbulent aftermath of the Spanish Civil War, with a grand dinner planned to celebrate the nationalist triumph of Franco in the iconic and luxurious Hotel Palace in Madrid. But what the victors don’t know is who's in the kitchen. Opening night tickets are $75 and include reserved lawn seating, entertainment, open bar cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and a filmmaker Q&A.

The Men’s and Ladies Latin Spotlight Night will start at 7 p.m. on April 25 in Miami at the Silverspot Cinema. This year’s films will be the romantic comedy An Island Away From You (A Una Isla De Ti) (Spain, 2025) and the award-winning drama Jone, Sometimes (Jone, batzuetan) (Spain, 2025). The Centerpiece Film screening at the Koubek Center Theater at 7:30 p.m. on April 30 will be Maspalomas (Spain, 2025), which is an intimate story that delves into the subject of
homosexuality in elder age through the journey of a 76-yearold man confronting fears and dilemmas that cross generations. The film is set in the iconic town and beaches of Maspalomas, on the beautiful island of Gran Canaria, and it thoughtfully explores universal themes such as family, identity and sexuality in later life, with extraordinary honesty, depth and sensitivity. Attendees are invited for light bites, entertainment and complimentary cocktails after the film.

OUTshine then journeys north to Fort Lauderdale on April 27 with a host of exclusive screenings, fun-filled evenings and a brand-new block party spread out over three additional dates. Mark’s Fort Lauderdale restaurant.

According to Festival Director of Programming Joe Bilancio, “Our Miami run has a strong focus on Latin America, international and foreign language LGBTQ+ films geared toward a strong multicultural audience while Fort Lauderdale features many American independent films. We are proud to share these empowering stories by today’s foremost and emerging directors whose creative visions urge us to embrace our differences and foster a sense of unity and belonging.”
In addition, you should view other films like Montreal, My Beautiful (Montréal, Ma Belle) (Canada, 2025) starring Joan Chen as a Chinese immigrant who begins a secret affair with

OUTshine’s first-ever Closing Night Community Block Party at Savor Cinema will take place in Fort Lauderdale Sunday, May 3. At 6 p.m. you can enjoy the screening of We’ll Find Happiness (Canada, 2025) followed by the outdoor soiree with food vendors, filmmakers, live performers, entertainment and more from community partners. We’ll Find Happiness, directed by Léa Pool, tells the story of Saad, a young Moroccan exile in Quebec, who will do anything to save the man he loves, an Iranian refugee facing deportation and likely death. In a desperate move, Saad tries to seduce a highranking spokesperson from the Ministry of Immigration. This risky gambit sets off a chain of events that are as intimate as they are political, where every decision carries consequences far beyond matters of the heart.

But your love of cinema does not have to end after Closing Night because OUTshine At-Home will be available May 4-10, so you can enjoy films from the comfort of home with family and friends.

Many Americans are fortunate to have dental coverage for their entire working life, through employer-provided benefits. When those benefits end with retirement, paying dental bills out-of-pocket can come as a shock, leading people to put off or even go without care.
Simply put — without dental insurance, there may be an important gap in your healthcare coverage.
When you’re comparing plans ...
Look for coverage that helps pay for major services. Some plans may limit the number of procedures — or pay for preventive care only.
Look for coverage with no deductibles. Some plans may require you to pay hundreds out of pocket before benefits are paid.
Shop for coverage with no annual maximum on cash benefits. Some plans have annual maximums of $1,000.
Medicare doesn’t pay for dental care.1
That’s right. As good as Medicare is, it was never meant to cover everything. That means if you want protection, you need to purchase individual insurance.
Early detection can prevent small problems from becoming expensive ones.
The best way to prevent large dental bills is preventive care. The American Dental Association recommends checkups twice a year.
Previous dental work can wear out.
Even if you’ve had quality dental work in the past, you shouldn’t take your dental health for granted. In fact, your odds of having a dental problem only go up as you age.2
Treatment is expensive — especially the services people over 50 often need.
Consider these national average costs of treatment ... $222 for a checkup ... $190 for a filling ... $1,213 for a crown.3 Unexpected bills like this can be a real burden, especially if you’re on a fixed income.

“Absolutely love”
“I absolutely love my dental insurance. My dental office files the claims, leaving me with very little balance to pay.”

Several North American Premieres will be part of the Festival, including the debut drama The Gymnast, starring Ethan Embry; football tragedy Heysel 85; Chilean political thriller The Red Hangar (Hangar Rojo); spy-comedy Comandante Fritz; and Flavia, an adaptation of the popular Flavia de Luce children’s book series starring Martin Freeman and Jonathan Pryce.

We also want to highlight other noteworthy films: Focus Features’ Obsession, Sony Pictures Classics’ I Swear, Magnolia Pictures’ Normal, Carolina Caroline and I Want Your Sex, NEON’s Hokum and Leviticus, and a Special Presentation of A24’s Sofia Coppola-directed Marc By Sofia about iconic fashion designer Marc Jacobs.

The Festival will open with the Black Bear Pictures film Tuner. Academy Award-winning director Daniel Roher’s first narrative feature stars Leo Woodall as a gifted young piano tuner whose heightened sense of hearing draws the attention of criminals that see his talents as useful for opening safes as well as for tuning Steinways. With his once-promising musical career over, the protagonist works across New York with his mentor Harry Horowitz (Academy Award-winner Dustin Hoffman), encountering a range of characters, including composition student Ruthie (Havana Rose Liu), with whom he develops an unforeseen connection. Niki’s safecracking work threatens his budding romance with Ruthie and pulls him into increasingly dangerous territory. Tuner mixes romance, drama, and the tense suspense of a heist thriller while featuring performances from Tony Award-winner Tovah Feldshuh, Lior Raz, and Jean Reno.

The 2026 Festival will close with the Lionsgate film Power Ballad. In this movie, Rick (Paul Rudd), a past-his-prime wedding singer, meets fading boy-band star Danny (Nick Jonas) during a gig, and the two bond over music and a latenight jam session. After Danny turns one of Rick’s songs into the hit that reignites his career, Rick sets out to reclaim the recognition he believes he deserves – even if it means risking everything Rick cares about. Power Ballad is a feel-good story about music, self-respect, friendship, and the price of ambition from writer-director John Carney (Sing Street, Once).

In addition, Miami Festival will present four Marquee screenings with talent in attendance for extended and in-depth post-screening Q&A: Everyone is Lying to You for Money (United States, directed by Ben McKenzie); Forge (United States, directed by Jing Ai Ng) – Florida Premiere; If I Go Will They Miss Me (United States, directed by Walter ThompsonHernandez) – Florida Premiere; and Over Your Dead Body (United States, directed by Jorma Taccone) – East Coast Premiere.
