Long before pop starlets walked the red carpet in neon wigs or meat dresses, Cyndi Lauper was rocking a half-shaved head and outfits that would make Britney blush and Gaga gasp. Her appropriately titled 1983 debut, She’s So Unusual spawned four top 5 hits, including her first No. 1, “Time After Time,” and of course the iconic anthem “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.” Since then, Cyndi has sold more than 50 million albums, appeared in TV and films, fought for LGBT equality, performed on Broadway, wrote a best-selling memoir, won a Grammy and an Emmy, and recently took home a Tony for the Broadway smash Kinky Boots. Thirty years after its debut, the multi-talented diva is now taking She’s So Unusual back on tour and celebrating her incredible journey with re-vamped performances and insights into the tracks that launched her phenomenal career. Wire Magazine recently connected with Cyndi during the Australian leg of her tour to get the deets on everything happening.
