Year after year, the hottest men from around the globe gather for an outstanding week of fabulous events at some of the most coveted venues in Miami and South Beach. The 2020 Festival lineup of events will bring us DJs and sounds from all over the world, including Brazil, Europe, Colombia and the Philippines. WPF is made possible every year by the National LGBTQ Task Force, which works tirelessly for a future with full equality for all. Proceeds from the Festival go towards advancing full freedom, justice, and equality for our LGBTQ community. Rafa Carvajal: Give us a preview of this year's WPF. Sergio Orlando: Guests should expect this year's Festival to be one that was created just for them. The Winter Party Festival Planning Committee starts at the beginning of each season to listen to the feedback of our guests and strategically plans on how we could improve the Winter Party experience to be even more magical and
enticing for each guest. We are bringing back our Saturday and Sunday night events to Miami Beach and undergoing a complete revamp of a long time guest favorite at the former Mansion nightclub. We are continuing to bring our guests an incredible production experience with our long-time partner Masterbeat and couldn't be more excited to bring these two incredible nights back to the Beach! To keep our guests close to a majority of the main events on Miami Beach, we're thrilled to be introducing a brand new host hotel, The Royal Palm South Beach. In addition, we will also be hosting our VIP Cocktail Reception at a brand new venue for both Winter Party and Miami Beach, the AxelBeach Miami on Friday, March 6. From brand new venues such as the ultra-sleek and modern Wynwood Factory, as well as the return of our signature event Under One Sun Evolution to Nikki Beach Club, we are continuing to bring our guests an epic experience, all while giving back to our LGBTQ community. We bring the world together to create change while celebrating you! RC: What is your role with WPF and how did you get involved with the Festival? SO: I am the Festival Chair, joined with Senior Festival Chair René Wolfensberger, and together we oversee the volunteer organization of Winter Party Festival to serve as the lead liaison between the National LGBTQ Task Force staff and volunteers. I became involved in the Festival back in 2017 when I became the director of committee engagement dedicated to building a program to support the volunteer leaders of the Festival. I have been volunteering ever since, and this group of dedicated volunteers has truly become my chosen family! RC: What is the theme of WPF 2020? SO: This year's Evolve campaign and its neon butterfly not only symbolize the strength and evolution of all corners of our beautiful LGBTQ community, but it also represents the personal evolution that our guests can experience when they journey through the adventure, love, and magic shared during the week-long festival. RC: What parties do you expect will be the most popular this year and why? SO: Our most popular events continue to be our crowd favorite Under One Sun- Evolution event at Nikki Beach Club and our "crown jewel" Beach Party on the sands

of Miami Beach, simply because there is nothing like being outdoors dancing with your chosen family under the Miami sun! We are always on the lookout to bring new events that help Winter Party become a more inclusive and diverse event for the entire LGBTQ guest community, and this year is no different. The one event I am especially proud of introducing to our lineup this year is our Bring It event, which brings some house, soul, and ballroom beats to kick off the week on Friday, March 6 at No. 3 Social. We invite you to come experience this event that highlights a whole new experience to Winter Party! RC: What is the significance of the Winter Party Festival for the National LGBTQ Task Force and our LGBTQ community? SO: In 1994, four volunteers produced the first Winter Party to raise money for the rights of LGBTQ people. 26 years later, we're still fighting for our rights. We've seen how one election can change everything, and although we have come so far as a community, many of the protections we have fought for as a community are still at risk. The Task Force is a huge driver of justice, change and equality, and supporting Winter Party helps us do exactly that. RC: What do you want Festival goers to take away from WPF 2020? SO: Meeting new friends! Winter Party guests come from all over the world and you are bound to meet someone who you connect with. More importantly, I want guests to experience an immersive exploration of self-discovery and Winter Party Festival can provide exactly that platform, with unforgettable memories and friends that last a lifetime. RC: How much money was raised at last year's WPF and how were the funds distributed to help our community? SO: In addition to supporting the National LGBTQ Task Force's fight for freedom, justice, and equality, The Task Force donates a significant portion of the proceeds to LGBTQ advocacy and community groups in South Florida through a grant-making process administered by the GLBT Community Projects Fund of The Miami Foundation. In 2018, the Task Force donated over $200,000, for a grand total of $3.1 million given back since Winter Party was founded. RC: Is there anything else you would like to share with Wire Magazine readers? SO: We invite you to take the week of Winter Party Festival to truly live into the motto: Live Free, Play Hard, and Give Back! Rafa Carvajal: Tell our readers about yourself and how you got started with music. DJ Lina: I started DJing in 1997 and it was a dare from my brothers and colleagues in the business such as Tpro Jr, Vasquez Carlos, Pertrus Gantt, Johnson Frankie Knuckles, David Morales, and a few others. My birthday was coming up and they dared me, so here we are! DJ J Warren: I am 29 years old and currently live in Boston. I have always had a passion for being creative. Even as a kid, I was always painting or drawing. I've also always loved sharing my passion for the 10 WIREMAG.COM #5 2020
arts with other people and this is one of the reasons why I started DJing in the first place. It started during my freshman year at college as just a hobby and then slowly became my passion. I grew up in a conservative household and was homeschooled until college where I attended a religious university. Being closeted in that environment was a struggle and caused me to feel very depressed. Getting lost in my music gave me a safe space to be myself. In a way, I love creating that fun environment for others. DJ Toy Armada: I'm from the Philippines. I guess you could say that music was always a part of me, even when I was young because our family lived and breathed it. I had various musical influences from what my parents, elder brothers and little sister listened to. I absorbed it all from the likes of the Gipsy Kings to Linda Eder and Jewel to name a few! Growing up, my dad got me piano lessons, which I am very thankful for every day because it has done nothing but good in my life!

DJ J Warren will take things to the next level during Heat at Wynwood Factory, also on Friday, March 6, at 10 p.m. DJ Toy Armada will have you dancing the day away at The Under One Sun: Evolution party at Nikki Beach Club on Saturday, March 7, at 12 p.m.

RC: Describe your DJing style in three words. L: Soulful, instruments and love. JW: Progressive, high-energy and melodic. TA: Emotional, dramatic and percussive! RC: How did you become involved with Winter Party Festival? L: They reached out to me and here we are making magic. Back in the day, when my sister Candis Cane used to host White Party and Winter Party in the early '90s, it energized me to be the DJ I currently am, and many moons later it's a new day. JW: I first became involved with Winter Party in 2018, when I spun the Ignite party on Thursday night. I remember when I was originally asked to spin that night, it was a dream come true. Winter Party is known for creating a next-level experience and majorly giving back to the community at the same time. This put Winter Party at the top of my bucket list and I was beyond excited to be on the lineup. TA: Back in 2016, it was my first time playing for WPF, and what an unforgettable one it was. I had the honor of playing at the legendary Beach Party, which is the crown jewel of the Festival. My partner DJ Grind and I got so emotional when it was done because there was so much positive energy coming back at us the whole time. It was a special moment in our lives. RC: Give us a preview of what you have planned for the Bring It, Heat, and Under One Sun: Evolution parties at this year's WPF. L: Lina, for those who know me, and those who don't, soul, beauty, guts, and beats for your nerves! JW: At Heat I'll be spinning back to back with Joe Pacheco, as Millennial. Our signature as Millennial is to rework classic songs and add a modern high energy edge to it. We have already started creating a lot of new content to premiere exclusively at Heat. We also are working hard on creating a fully dynamic journey for the night. TA: DJ Grind and myself have been very busy in the studio since last year. So we're utterly excited to use the latest tracks we've released plus a few others that we've kept secret for our set! It will most definitely be a fun and uplifting journey for everyone.

RC: What are you looking forward to the most about the Bring It, Heat, and Under One Sun: Evolution parties? L: The love that was in my soul and then became like Wimbledon between the partygoers and myself. I feed o the energy and then we all go higher! JW: Being able to be part of such an iconic night and spin the brand new Friday night venue (Wynwood Factory). Also, I'm really excited that I get to spin alongside one of my best friends. We always have such a blast together. TA: I can't wait to be under the Miami sun with the friends I've made over the years since I started DJing in the U.S. But, I'm also very excited to be sharing the decks again with DJ Grind. It's always a good time creating magical moments with him!
RC: Is there anything else you would like to share with Wire Magazine readers? L: Get ready because 2020 is going to be very monumental, not just for me, but for our community. Not only is this an election year, but we have the power to be proactive in one of the most important elections of our life. Maturity has taught me to be patient while always doing it with style, grace, love, and light. That being said, some beautiful and stunning projects are about ready to get laid down. Thank you for taking the time and I can't wait to turn it! JW: When you find something in your life that you are passionate about and brings you joy, focus on that and put the work in, because life is too short to not follow your dreams! RC: What does Winter Party mean to you? L: I think that any time you have a Festival that brings people together, it's just that. Bringing energies and positive light and music is always a beautiful creation for all. Yes, the backdrop of our life! JW: When I think about Winter Party, the word community comes to mind. I remember the first time that I attended Winter Party in 2018. It felt like people from all walks of life came together and celebrated life together as a community. There is nothing like that feeling of positive energy everywhere I went. TA: This Festival is composed of very dedicated people who love being part of it! They do it all to help the LGBTQ community, which is amazing and fun! It is an honor to be a part of this group once more!

ou don't have to be a fan of Kesha's music to appreciate all the good she does for the LGBTQ community, the environment, women's rights and any other worthy cause in need of a loud voice or a strong hand to push the needle. Even before her very public legal battle against Producer Dr. Luke, the outspoken queen of white-girl rap never thought twice about standing up against the bullies of the world; a quality you'd probably never expect from the girl who spelled her name with a dollar sign and gave us party anthems like "Tik Tok," "Blow" and "Die Young" off her first two albums. Still, even with all that passion fueling the fire inside her, it just wasn't enough to win her own fight. After being defeated in the courtroom, the bruised and battered singer did what any self-respecting artist would do. She picked herself up, locked herself in the recording studio and took her frustrations out on her next album. On Rainbow, Kesha put the glitter back in the bottle, dropped the dollar sign, and traded unapologetic party anthems for girl-power battle cries ("Woman") and introspective mantras ("Praying"). While we celebrated her longawaited return to the spotlight and cheered her sudden lane change, there was still a part of us that missed the unfettered earworms that once called us to the dance floor begging for drunken karaoke. Lucky for us, the 32-year-old songwriter heard our vodka-soaked cries and has gone back to her dirty pop roots on her latest offering, High Road. When talking to
Rolling Stone about making the new album she explained how she "reconnected to the unrestrained joy and wildness that's always been a part of me – and in this process, I have had the most fun I've ever had making a record." Besides co-writing every track on the set – with some assistance from the likes of Wrabel, Nate Ruess (Fun) and Dan Reynolds (Imagine Dragons) – Kesha also took the wheel as executive producer; driving this music machine through twists and turns in the most unexpected directions. The wild journey kicks off with "Tonight," or what I like to call "Tik Tok, Part 2." What sounds at first like a piano bar sing-along, suddenly explodes into machine gunfire of handclaps and Kesha's iconic rap about partying the night away with good friends and good booze. The fun doesn't stop on "My Own Dance." Even while flipping her middle finger to those who told her to "get over it" Kesha confidently serves up her signature IDGAF wordplay with lines like "We get it that you've been through a lotta shit, but life's a bitch so come on shake your tits and fuck it!" The sharp-tongued diva keeps the party going with Big Freedia on the gospel-inspired "Raising Hell" and the high energy title track before slowing things down on the haunting piano ballad "Shadow," the slow-burning "Honey," and acoustic numbers "Cowboy Blues" and "Resentment." Whether she's roaring on a pulsating baseline or purring a stripped-down melody, Kesha has always had a way of swinging at the haters while keeping her sense of humor intact; a fact that's evident on "Birthday Suit" and "Kinky." And, despite all the scars, tracks like "Little Bit of Love," "BFF" and "Father Daughter Dance" remind us that even the tough girls can be vulnerable every now and then. Kesha just doesn't give a f*** what people think of her or what other artists are putting out there. She'll always do her own dance!

t long last, Director Guy Richie is back in the territory he knows best, the harsh, talky, violent, clever, funny, sexy, entertaining, and ever 'British cool' of cockney London's underworld. It's a post-modern English pulp fiction gem of a film, presented in a way that only a master of the sub-genre can bring it to the screen; and I'm glad to say Richie once again does it up to the nines. This wonderful twisty tale of every mistake, misunderstanding, and bad choice that could possibly be made by semi-literate criminals who hobnob with the upper classes, and then buy them for their own nefarious purposes, is a delight to sit and watch. Harkening back to Richie's days of Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch, with a bow to several other great English underworld movies like The Long Good Friday, Layer Cake, and The Krays, the plot of this crime caper film, loaded with known actors, will constantly keep you guessing as it tosses you in new directions every time you think you've got a handle on it.

Additionally, to add to the fun and make the characters appear even sleazier than they are, Richie has deliciously chosen to dress them all in flamboyant wardrobe, flashy outfits that show off their positions in society, or rather what they think they should wear to fit in or express their station in life. It's just another great touch.
like the gentry, peacefully somewhere in the countryside with his adored and somewhat dominatrix minded wife (Dockery). However, when someone spills the preverbal beans about the sale and makes it appear that his grip on the kingdom has weakened, it sets up a situation that has every scumbag wannabe plotting and scheming to relieve him of the business in any way possible. With the help of his loyal right-hand man, Ray (Hunnam) and through the tattered stories of Fletcher (Grant), a unique blackmailer, Mickey tries to unravel all the plots and survive to sell another day. The cast is remarkable. Dockery, whom you should know from Downton Abbey, makes a fabulous Cleopatra of crime. Hugh Grant, in a role he'd never actually get cast in, is a perfect sleazy PI, all hands and give me. Colin Farrell, all wrapped up in ridiculous plaid warm-ups, plays the semi-bad guy to the hilt. Even Henry Golding, the love interest from Crazy Rich Asians, is on board playing a very plausible bad guy. There's more, but let's just say everyone is great. Then there's McConaughey, finally breaking out of the acting rut he's been in for quite a while. His Mickey is a beautiful creation, multi-layered ice, and evil, yet still an anti-hero. Someone to be admired and feared both in the same breath.
