Founded in 1911, the Community House is a non-profit organization offering sports / fitness, performing arts, and educational programming for all ages. The historic building features a modern fitness center, theater, gymnasium, multi-purpose spaces, and a beautiful garden. As an independent 501(c)(3), we receive no tax dollars and rely on donations, memberships, and program fees. The Community House is proud to have served generations of Winnetka and North Shore families.
Members and Non-Members from Winnetka and surrounding communities are welcome to participate in any of our classes, programs, lectures, and events.

Gwendolyn Britt
Teaches: Ballet and Fantasy Dance
Gwendolyn has been teaching ballet and Fantasy Dance classes at the Community House for over 20 years. Her students learn proper ballet technique in an encouraging atmosphere. As a performer, Gwendolyn danced for the Lynda Martha Dance Company. She is a certified teacher with the Cecchetti Council of America. Gwendolyn is a graduate of the Indiana University School of Music with a BS in Ballet Education.
E. Marc Nevins
Teaches: Adult Ballet
Marc is a dancer with nearly 20 years of performing experience including appearances with American Ballet Theatre, Joffery Ballet, Ballet West and the Evanston Concert Ballet. Marc studied at the University of Utah, Interlochen Arts Academy, School of American Ballet in New York, and with Maria Tallchief in Chicago.
Daniel Rosa, “Teacher Dan”
A graduate of Loyola Academy, Dan is a talented multi-instrumentalist and popular teacher of piano, violin, guitar, bass guitar, banjo, mandolin, percussion, and voice at the Community House. Dan is the founder of Music ‘n’ Me and Top Note Music Academy. A firm believer that music should be fun, Dan enjoys sharing his love of music with his students. He is a graduate of USC with a degree in music.
The Community House has a dedicated and comfortable music room with piano, drum kit, percussion instruments, classical string instruments, electric guitar and bass guitar.

Formed in 1974, Children’s Theatre of Winnetka (CTW) is an award-winning, volunteer organization dedicated to promoting theatrical experiences for children in Grades 4-8 who reside or attend school in New Trier Township. Children, under adult supervision, learn all aspects of theatre production from stage management to performance. Students may participate both onstage or backstage in two productions annually in the fall and spring.

It’s time to shine on stage this summer! Each camper will memorize a named role in the show, learn fully staged songs and dances, and work together as a team to create an incredible performance for friends and family on the final day of camp! Young actors will follow a journey of imagination as they sing along to enchanting tunes of Cinderella Jr. while experiencing the magic of musical theater. In play-based rehearsals, Tots actors will learn creative movement and songs from Cinderella, exploring the fairy tale world of glass slippers, pumpkin carriages, and dreams come true! Over five fun-filled weeks, rehearsals spark an early love for theater arts through fantasy and play. All classes lead up to a

Skyline Studios is a mainstay at the Community House and is proud to teach children of all levels the fundamentals of acting. Jacqui Siegel, drama teacher, and Erica Zuhr, elementary school teacher, are the co-owners of Skyline Studios, Inc. Werner Martin
Werner Martin began his study of classical ballet in Berlin and continued to study and perform when he moved back to the U.S., performing with the Joffrey Ballet in their piece “Petrushka” at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles. In California, Werner also developed a passion for fitness and studied and taught at the Jane Fonda studio, appearing in Jane Fonda’s famous VHS workouts. Werner has a distinct passion for sharing the benefits of ballet with adults of any age and invites those of all ages and backgrounds to join him for a fun class!

KC Bleuher
KC is an ACE Certified Personal Trainer with specialized training in massage therapy, recovery modalities, pilates, and other group fitness formats. She uses a combination of corrective exercise, strength training, stretching and massage to customize a fitness plan for her clients. Her vision is a world where all people live pain-free, healthy, and strong. She believes in the connection between a healthy body and a positive outlook and is passionate about being a catalyst for change for her clients. KC joined the Community House training team in 2025.
Bob Davis
Bob has been assisting members of the Community House Fitness Center in reaching their fitness goals since 2001. Bob enjoys working with seniors and teens as well as those with special needs including rehabilitation. Helping those in the gym complements Bob’s career in sports media that has taken him to multiple NFL Super Bowls, and the NCAA Basketball Final Four. Bob is certified through the International Sports Science Association.
Chris Treiber
Chris has been assisting members of the Community House Fitness Center in reaching their fitness goals since 1996. His specializations are training for strength, functional movement, balance, and older adult populations. Chris is certified through the American Council on Exercise, the Functional Aging Institute (Functional Aging Specialist) and the Gray Institute (Applied Functional Science).
Edwin Ventura
Edwin is a NASM certified personal trainer as well as a USA licensed Boxing Coach. He grew up in Waukegan playing soccer for 15 years before switching to boxing for the last 6 years. He enjoys training a wide range of clients for performance, general health, and weight loss. Edwin also holds a Performance Enhancement Specialty Certification through the National Academy of Sports Medicine, which enables him to train athletes to reach their full conditioning potential. Edwin joined the Community House training team in 2023.

Obedience 101 teaches the basics of obedience: sit, down, stand, recall (coming when called), stay, and heel — everything your companion dog needs to know! Dog Obedience 102
Obedience 102 is focused on honing the skills of Obedience 101. Additional levels of difficulty and distractions will be added. Dogs of any age may enroll provided they have a basic knowledge of basic obedience commands: sit, down, recall (coming when called), stay, and heel.

This class will help bring your dog’s basic commands to the next level, through fun games and activities! Dogs of any age may take this class and should have already established basic commands including sit, down, stay, coming when called, and loose leash walking.

Dog Obedience Rally
Rally is a fun spin on traditional obedience for both the dog and the handler! Dogs must have strong heeling skills to take this class. Obedience skills of sit, down, stand, stay, heeling, and coming when called will be worked on in the context of an obstacle course of obedience exercises.

Continuing Scent Work NEW!
Prerequisite: Intro to Scent Work. This class will build onto the basic principles by adding more challenging hides, including adding birch and exterior searches (weather permitting). As one dog searches at a time, your dog will need to be crated when not searching. With smaller dogs, you are welcome to bring your own carrier. Bring a regular leash and soft treats. No obedience skills are required.

CANCELLATION OF CLASSES Register early! Prior to the start of any class, registration is reviewed to determine if the enrollment is sufficient to hold the class. Do not wait until the day of the first class to register or you may find the class has been canceled due to low enrollment.

EMERGENCY CLOSINGS The Community House intends to keep its facilities and programs operating whenever possible. There are times, however, when weather, road conditions, or facility malfunctions dictate that programs and/or services must be canceled or temporarily postponed or entire facilities closed. In order to provide employees and patrons with a safe and secure environment in which to work and play, the Community House reserves the right to close a particular facility or cancel a program when deemed necessary.
