Founded in 1911, the Community House is a non-profit organization offering sports, educational, and arts programming for children and adults. The historic building features a tness center, theater, rental space, and garden. As an independent 501(c)(3) we receive no tax dollars and rely on donations, memberships, and program fees to sustain our organization. The Community House is proud to have served generations of Winnetka residents and North Shore families.

Members and Non-Members from Winnetka and surrounding communities are welcome to participate in any of our classes, programs, lectures, and events.

MISSION STATEMENT

The Community House mission is to serve as a gathering place for all and inspire lifelong learning, personal growth, and community spirit through enjoyable, engaging activities and meaningful shared experiences.

Our child care staff provides a safe, nurturing environment for children age 8 weeks and older while you work out at the Fitness Center or take a class here at the Community House. We welcome children for 1½ hours each visit.

Meet Your Fitness Center Trainers!

Bob Davis

Bob has been assisting members of the Community House Fitness Center in reaching their tness goals since 2001. Bob enjoys working with seniors and teens as well as those with special needs including rehabilitation. Helping those in the gym complements Bob’s career in sports media that has taken him to multiple NFL Superbowls, and the NCAA Basketball Final Four. Bob is certi ed through the International Sports Science Association.

Dolores Ohlwein

Dolores has been assisting members of the Community House Fitness Center in reaching their tness goals since 1991. She enjoys helping clients maintain a healthy lifestyle by using: functional training, core/balance exercises, weight training, weight bearing exercises, and stretching. She is certi ed through the Idea International Association of Fitness Professionals with an emphasis in exercise and aging.

Chris Treiber

Chris has been assisting members of the Community House Fitness Center in reaching their tness goals since 1996. His specializations are training for strength, functional movement, balance, and older adult populations. Chris is certi ed through the American Council on Exercise, the Functional Aging Institute (Functional Aging Specialist) and the Gray Institute (Applied Functional Science).

Edwin Ventura

Edwin is a NASM certi ed personal trainer as well as a USA licensed Boxing Coach. He grew up in Waukegan playing soccer for 15 years before switching to boxing for the last 6 years. He enjoys training a wide range of clients for performance, general health, and weight loss. Edwin also holds a Performance Enhancement Specialty Certi cation through the National Academy of Sports Medicine, which enables him to train athletes to reach their full conditioning potential.

WERQTM Dance Fitness

WERQTM is the wildly addictive cardio dance workout based on trending pop and hip hop music.

This combination of Pilates moves and yoga poses will help strengthen and lengthen muscles and help create a lean, toned look. schedule!

Chair Yoga

This gentle chair yoga practice is for people of all ages and mobility limitations. Create exibility and space in your body, use deep effective breathing techniques and work on stability and balance.

Yoga School for Beginners*

This class covers basic poses, the purpose of props, and the bene ts of each type of practice.

Heartsaver CPR/AED Training

This course teaches adult and child CPR and AED use, infant CPR, and how to relieve choking in adults, children, and infants.

Run Strong - 5K Training

NEW!

Get ready for the Treasure Trot, the Junior Board 5K (or the running season) in this conditioning class, which will include short outdoor group runs in nice weather, conditioning drills on the turf, and strength training for runners. No running experience is necessary. Class meets on the turf.

Dan Rosa offers instruction on a number of different instruments. Teacher Dan lays out a strong musical foundation for you; teaching music theory as well as the fundamentals of each instrument. Adult Sewing

This is the perfect opportunity to learn the basics of sewing and advance your skills! We will spend the rst week of class learning about the sewing machine. The rest of the time will be spent working on projects. Fabric, sewing supplies and sewing machine are provided. You may choose to purchase additional specialty items.

COACHABLE CANINES – NEW INSTRUCTOR! Puppy Beginnings

Join us for a class designed to provide young puppies with a well-rounded and enriching experience during their crucial early months of life (2-5 months). This program focuses on three key components: training, exploration, and play. Only positive reinforcement training methods are used.

Basic Behaviors Training

Dog Obedience Puppy

Obedience 102 is focused on honing the skills of Obedience 101. Dogs of any age may enroll, provided they have knowledge of basic obedience commands: sit, down, recall, stay, and heel.
