Navigating this Program Guide

The 2017 Winter/Spring Program Guide has been redesigned to better serve you Programs are in 4 different categories including Enrichment and Education, Fine Arts, Performing Arts, and Sports and Athletics Within those categories programs are in order of age (with a few exceptions .) Special Events and Birthday Parties are located in the front of the program guide and Fitness Centre and Facility Information is located in the back .

Editorial Policy

Complete details of program policies, procedures, and guidelines are sometimes inadvertently omitted Errors in days, times, registration requirements and fees may occur in the brochure . When such errors occur the staff will advise you of the change as quickly as possible

Registration Info

Member registration opens November 21, 2016 and will be processed on a first come, first served basis.

All non-members will be able to register November 28, 2016.

Registration received through the mail, fax, or in person will be processed by 5PM the next business day The best way to ensure that your registration is processed immediately is by using our online registration at winnetkacommunityhouse org

» To register for a membership simply list all eligible members on the registration form Then check the box and add the membership fee in with your registration

» Unsigned forms will not be processed, but will be returned to you This will delay processing your registration .

You may use your credit card for all programs which appear with a class number or for a Fitness Centre membership Fitness Centre memberships are obtained at the Fitness Centre only. Be sure to fill out the credit card information completely and sign the form We do not take telephone registration However, if you are paying by credit card, you may fax your registration to (847) 446-0609

Cancellation of Classes

Prior to any class, registration is reviewed to determine if the enrollment is sufficient to hold the class Register early! Do not wait

until the day of the first class to register. You may find the class has been cancelled due to low enrollment

Prorated Policy

Classes may be prorated if you would like to enroll in a class after it has started, provided the instructor has space and allows for late registration The supervisor must approve the prorated amount

Refund Policy

Full refunds will be issued for courses that are cancelled by Winnetka Community House due to insufficient registration. A refund, less a 10% service charge (not to exceed $25), may be granted if the refund request is received five full working days prior to the start of the program No refunds will be allowed after this time unless a medical condition develops and a written explanation from a physician on his/her letterhead is presented Due to advanced reservation requirements, no refunds for trips, outings or special events will be given

Emergency Closings

The Winnetka Community House endeavors to keep its facilities and programs operating whenever possible . There are times, however, when weather, road conditions or facility malfunctions dictate that programs and/or services must be cancelled or temporarily postponed or entire facilities closed . In order to provide employees and patrons with a safe and secure environment in which to work and play, the Winnetka Community House reserves the right to close a particular facility or cancel a program when deemed necessary .

Inclement Weather Policy

If school District 36 cancels classes for the entire day, all Winnetka Community House children’s programs (including Free-To-BeKids childcare) starting before noon will be cancelled Decisions on all adult programs and children’s programs starting after noon, will be made on a case-by-case basis Please

Religious Holidays

Winnetka Community House makes every effort to avoid scheduling programs or events on religious holidays Anyone affected will be offered the option of attending a session of the same program on a different date as a make-up, or receiving a prorated refund of the series fee for the date missed

Stephen Dustman Memorial Scholarship Fund

Winnetka Community House has established the Stephen Dustman Memorial Scholarship Fund to any resident who would like to take part in a Winnetka Community House activity, but is unable to render full payment Persons interested may submit their need in writing to the attention of the Executive Director for confidential review. If further information is desired, please call our main office.

Donations to this scholarship fund are gratefully accepted.

Register your whole family!

A one year Community House Membership is $195. All family members in your household are eligible for membership benefits. When registering for, just list your family members, and they will automatically be eligible for benefits when registering.

Register early for programs! Registration begins a week early for Community House Members. Check out our website or program guide for member registration dates.

Note: Membership does not guarantee placement in all classes. Some classes fill quickly.

Save money on classes! Members save up to 20% on registration! Find the Member price listed for each program and save on your whole family’s programs all year!

Winnetka Community House Membership Program

To sign up for a membership, please list all members of your household below and fill out a registration form. If registering for a class, please add $195 to your total registration fee. If signing up for a member ship only, your $195 membership fee can be paid by check or credit card. Register online at winnetkacommunityhouse.org.

Let your child’s imagination run wild! This journey is filled with imagination, movement, Music Theater and bubbles of fun Themes: Princess/Cinderella, Elsa, Little Mermaid, Fairy Princess, Barbie, Peter Pan/Pirate, Wizard of Oz

Animal Balloon Party

Fee : $300 for 20 guests

Balloon Animals are a huge hit at birthday parties! Now your party can have balloon animals (dogs, butterflies, swords, giraffes, etc.) being made non-stop for 45 minutes by the Magic Team of Gay Kantor The kids will do more than just play with the balloons; they’ll also get to decorate their animals with stickers and markers . At the end of the party all the kids will get to take home their very own collection of assorted balloon animals .

Hula Party

In this authentic and entertaining Hawaiian dance party, children will learn some fun Hawaiian words, and then watch an authentic hula dance Next, the children will be given a hula lesson and taught a basic hula dance they can perform at the end of the party Children will be provided with Hula skirts to wear for the party

Sand Art

Each guest will create a unique sand sculpture or candle by layering a colorful assortment of wax crystals or art sand into your choice of many special containers Guests create their own masterpieces to take home

Create your own personalized treasure (mug, bowl, plate, jewelry box, etc) . Design, decorate, and paint with creativity! Instructors will assist in assembly and demonstrate decorating techniques These handmade treasures will be fired, glazed and ready to be picked up 7–10 days after the party

Chess Wizards Winter Break Camp

Would you like to go on a journey to learn cool openings, mid-games with all the pins, double attacks, endgames and even bughouse? Would you like to be a part of a successful chess team, designed to cater to all levels of chess players? If so, join Chess Wizards for this camp! Campers will learn how to play chess in a fun atmosphere with both indoor and outdoor activities This camp is for beginning and intermediate level players No previous experience is needed Children should bring their own lunch and a drink, but snacks will be provided All campers will receive a chessboard, a Chess Wizards shirt, score book, trophy, work folder and certificate of achievement!

Creative Paws, Inc was founded in 2001 by Ashlee Trotter, BS, CPDT-KA, and provides group classes and private lessons for dog obedience training and behavior problems

Winnetka Community House is committed to conducting its recreation programs and activities in the safest manner possible, and holds the safety of the participants in the highest possible regard. Participants and parents registering their child in recreation programs must recognize, however, that there is an inherent risk of injury when choosing to participate in recreation activities. Winnetka Community House continually strives to reduce such risks, and insists that all participants follow safety rules and instructions which have been designed to protect the participants’ safety. Please recognize that Winnetka Community House does not carry medical accident insurance for injuries sustained in its programs. The cost of such would make program fees prohibitive. Therefore, each person registering himself\herself or a family member for a recreation program/activity should review his/her own health insurance policy for coverage. It must be noted that the absence of health insurance coverage does not make Winnetka Community House automatically responsible for payment of medical expenses. REFUND AND PRORATE INFORMATION

Full refunds will be issued for courses that are cancelled by Winnetka Community House due to insufficient registration. A refund, less a 10% service charge (not to exceed $25), may be granted if the refund request is received five full working days prior to the start of the program. No refunds will be allowed after this time unless a medical condition develops and a written explanation from a physician on his/her letterhead is presented. Due to advanced reservation requirements, no refunds for trips, outings, or special events will be given. Classes may be prorated if you would like to enroll in a class after it has started, provided the instructor has space, and allows for late registration. The supervisor must approve the prorated amount.
