Windsor's Snow & Ice Team Ready to Tackle Winter Season
Winter is almost here Windsor, and as cold weather approaches, Windsor’s Snow & Ice Team is gearing up to keep roads safe and accessible all season long. Their mission is to de-ice and plow roadways quickly, maintain smooth traffic flow for essential services, and ensure safe winter driving conditions for everyone.
To help make operations more efficient, the town uses PlowOps, a GPS-based tracking system that monitors snowplows and street sweepers in real time. This technology allows crews to manage routes more effectively, follow established
priorities, and make data-informed decisions that maximize resources during each storm.
Windsor’s Snow and Ice Control Plan focuses first on major roads, arterials, collectors, and emergency routes, along with school and bus routes. The plan is flexible, adapting to the specific challenges of each storm.
Residents can help by giving snowplows plenty of room to work safely and efficiently.

Holiday cooking means hearty meals and full bellies—but it can also mean clogged pipes if you’re not careful about what goes down the drain. Fats, oils and grease (F.O.G.) might seem harmless when warm, but once they cool, they solidify and can block plumbing and sewer lines.
Blocked pipes can cause backups, foul odors and costly repairs both at home and throughout Windsor’s wastewater system. Help keep things flowing smoothly by following the simple steps to the right.
A few simple changes in the kitchen can make a big difference while protecting your home, your wallet and Windsor’s sewer system.

Let it cool first.
Hot grease can reach up to 400°F, so give it time to cool before you handle or dispose of it.
Skip the sink
Never pour fats, oils or grease down the drain, even with hot water or soap. They’ll eventually harden inside your pipes.
Contain it
Once cooled, pour grease into a disposable container, seal it, and toss it in the trash.
Wipe before you wash. Use paper towels to remove excess grease from pots, pans, and plates before rinsing.
5 Think ahead.
Save cooking oil in a jar or can in the freezer for reuse or look for community recycling options if you have larger quantities.
