WINDSOR MATTERS AUGUST 2026
Pedestrian Safety Tips As the back-to-school season approaches, it's a great time to review a few pedestrian safety tips before students head out with their backpacks, lunchboxes and water bottles.
LOOK BOTH WAYS, TWICE. Before crossing the street, look left, right, then left again. Continue checking for traffic as you cross, especially near curves or intersections where vehicles may be harder to see.
STAY ALERT. Keep your eyes and ears focused on your surroundings. Avoid distractions like headphones or cell phones while walking so you can be aware of approaching vehicles, cyclists, and other pedestrians.
USE DESIGNATED CROSSINGS. Always cross at crosswalks and intersections whenever possible instead of crossing in the middle of the street. Using designated crossings makes you more visible to drivers and helps everyone stay safe.
Whether you're walking or biking to school or around town, stay aware of traffic and make eye contact with drivers before crossing whenever possible. Younger children should walk with a parent, guardian or trusted buddy whenever they can.
