DearParents/Carers,
Theendoftheacademicyearshouldbethetimetoreflectonthelasttenandhalfmonthsinschool.However,it caneasilybecomearushoftryingtowrapeverythingupforthisyearwhilstplanningfornext.Iwritethisinthe middleofourfantasticActiveLearning/PledgeWeek.Theeffortthatgoesintoorganisingthisforfouryear groupstoenjoyismomentous-amassivethankyoutoMissAbelandMrPerry.Everythingwedoinschoolisfor thebenefitoftheyoungpeople.Weaimtounlockthestudents’AcademicandPersonalpotential-andnothing exemplifiesthisbetterthanthisweek.Reflectingonthethisacademicyear,wehavebeenabletocelebratesome fantasticachievementsacrossbothacademicandpersonalelementsofschool.
IamproudtotellyouthatKingswinfordAcademyisinatrulyfantasticposition.Thecultureinschool-Ready, Respectful,Safe-isfullyembeddedandouryoungpeopleareacredittothemselves,toschoolandtheirfamilies. Studentachievementacrosstheboardremainsexceptionallystrong.Infact,ourcurrentYear11GCSEresultsare predictedtobeamongthehighestwehaveeverseen.Thisisaphenomenalreflectionofthesheergraftour studentshaveputintotheirstudies,backedbythetop-tierexpertiseanddeepdevotionoftheirteachers.
Unbelievablywe’vehadtocancelanumberofthegreatcelebratoryeventsthatweusuallyhaveinthesummer term;athletics,danceanddramaperformances,readingcelebrationsplusothers,havefellvictimtotheextreme heat.Theschoolbuildinghasbeenuncomfortableattimesduringthepastmonth.Thestudentsandstaffhave remainedtheirbrilliantselvesthroughout,andIthankthemforcopinginsuchoppressiveconditions.Ithinkweall hopethatthisisaone-offandnotasignofthethingstocome-butIfeartheworst!
AttheendofthisacademicyearwesaygoodbyetothreemembersofstaffwhoareleavingKingswinford Academy.MrsEvansandMrsKellyareleavingourpastoralteamfornewroles,whilstMrPainterisleavingthe profession,hopefullyonlyforashorttime.Wewishallofourleaversbestwishesforthefuture.
Finally,abigthanktoyouallforyourcontinuedsupportandencouragementofallouryoungpeopleat KingswinfordAcademy.Itremains,asalways,anhonourandaprivilegetoserveyouallasHeadteacher.I’mvery luckyandproudtobeworkingalongsidesomeveryspecialdedicatedstaff,andtobesurroundedbysuch talentedyoungpeople.I’mlookingforwardtooursummerGCSEresultsandtoSeptember,whenwewill continuetohelpouryoungpeoplefulfiltheiracademicandpersonalpotential.

We are really looking forward to welcoming you to Kingswinford Academy in September. It will also be brilliant to havemanyofyoucometooursummerschoolinAugust.
Firstdayofschool-Whattoexpect
When you arrive in September you will be directed to the school hall before going to your form room with your form tutor. You will be given a tour of the school and will have an assembly led by Mr Moreton, Headteacher. You will get your timetables and your tutor will go through with you the timings of the day and help you with your schoolorientation.
Year 11 students are back the same day as you - but school will be quite empty as Year 8, 9 & 10 don’t start back untilMonday7thSeptember.
Below are some resources from two charities - Anna Freud and Young Minds - which will help with your child’s transition from Year 6 to Year 7. We recommend that you engage with this as it will give you some important informationabouttransitiontosecondaryschoolforyourselvesandyourchild.

DuringthehotspelloverthelateMayBankHolidayweekendandhalf-termholiday,therewereanumberoftragic incidentsaroundthecountry,manyinvolvingyoungpeople.Theforecastoverthecomingweeksisfor temperaturestoriseagain.
Tokeepyourselfandyourlovedonessafearoundwaterpleasebeawareofthefollowing:
● Ofalldrowningsin2025,57%tookplaceininlandwater–canals,rivers,lakes,ponds–thetypeofbodies ofwaterwehavelotsofintheWestMidlands.
● Eveniftheweatheriswarmthewatermaybecold,causingyourbodytogointocoldwatershock.
● IfyoufallintowaterFloattoLive–putyourheadback,floatonyourbackandkeepyourselfstableby usingsmallmovementsofyourhands.
● Onceyouarestableyoumaycallforhelporswimtothebankifitisfeasible.

AmassivecongratulationstoallofourYear10studentswhoparticipatedinthisyear’sNational ScientificThinkingChallenge.
Weareincrediblyproudoftheenthusiasm,curiosity,andsharpproblem-solvingskillsdisplayedby everyonewhotookpart.Thisyear’scompetitionwasfiercewith16,174totalcompetitorsacross255 schoolsnationwide.

DiscoveringTalentsattheIBCSkillsShow
DunstallRacecoursewasbuzzingwithenergyasKingswinfordstudentsattendedthehighly anticipatedIBCSkillsShow.Thismassive,hands-onexhibitionallowedpupilstostepoutofthe classroomanddirectlyintotheshoesofvariousprofessionals.Thevenuewaspackedwithinteractive hubswherestudentscouldtrytheirhandateverythingfromvirtualrealitycodingandadvanced engineeringsimulationstobricklaying,culinaryarts,anddigitaldesign.Itwasavibrant,noisy,and thoroughlyexcitingshowcaseofthemodernworkplace.
Withdozensoflocalemployers,colleges,andtrainingprovidersunderoneroof,ourstudentswere abletohavemeaningfulconversationsabouttheirfutureoptions.Theylearnedexactlywhatskills, qualifications,andattitudesemployersareactivelylookingforinthecurrentjobmarket.Whether theyleftwithanewfoundpassionforgreenenergyengineeringoraclearerideaofhowtosecurea high-levelapprenticeship,everystudentreturnedtoschoolwithawealthofpracticalinspirationand abetterunderstandingoftheirpotentialnextsteps.

Earlierintermthree,ourYear7studentsweretreatedtoaninspiringglimpseintotheworldof highereducationduringaspecialvisitandtalkfromOxfordUniversityrepresentatives.Designedto introducetheconceptofuniversitylifeearlyon,theinteractivesessionbrokedownstandard stereotypesanddemystifiedwhatittakestostudyataworld-classinstitution.Studentslearned abouttheuniquecollegiatesystem,thediverserangeofsubjectsavailable”fromEgyptologyto Astrophysicsandthevibrantstudentlifethatawaitsthembeyondtheirsecondaryeducation.Itwas afantasticopportunitytoplanttheseedsofhighambitionrightatthestartoftheirKingswinford journey.
Theenergyintheroomwaspalpableasouryoungeststudentsconfidentlyengagedwiththe speakers,askingbrilliantquestionsabouteverything.Therepresentativeswereincrediblyimpressed byourpupils'curiosityandmaturity. Byshowcasingthattheseprestigiouspathwaysareabsolutely withintheirreach,theeventsuccessfullyempoweredourYear7stoaimhighandrecognizethat theirhardworktodaybuildsthefoundationforanextraordinarytomorrow.

AgroupofourbuddingprofessionalsheadedouttotheNationalMotorcycleMuseumrecentlyto attendtheNextGenerationofBusinessSupportProfessionalsShow.Thisspecializedeventopened ourstudents'eyestothevital,fast-pacedworldofmoderncorporateinfrastructure,includinghuman resources,digitalmarketing,accountancy,andoperationsmanagement.Ratherthanviewing businessesjustfromtheoutside,ourstudentsgainedararebackstagepasstounderstandhowmajor companiesfunction,innovate,andthriveinacompetitiveglobalmarket. Throughouttheday,pupilsengagedinnetworkingsessionsandpaneldiscussionswithindustry leadersandthrivingyoungapprentices.Theydiscoveredthatbusinesssupportrolesarethe backboneofeverysuccessfulindustry,offeringimmensecareerprogressionandtheflexibilityto workanywhereintheworld.Meetingtheseexpertsface-to-facegaveourstudentsarealtasteofthe professionalenvironment,leavingtheminspiredbythediverse,lucrative,anddynamiccareer pathwaysavailabletothemjustdowntheroad.

AmassivewelldonetoourYear10students,whorecentlycompleted theirhighlyanticipatedWorkExperienceWeek!Tradingtheirschool uniformsforprofessionalattire,studentsspentfivefulldaysembedding themselvesinamassivevarietyofindustriesacrosstheregion.From localprimaryschoolsandengineeringfirmstoveterinarypractices,retail headquarters,andlawoffices,ourpupilssteppedoutoftheircomfort zonestotakeontheresponsibilitiesofthedailycommuteanda9-to-5 workingschedule.
Thefeedbackfloodinginfromlocalemployershasbeenabsolutelystellar.Wehavereceived numerousemailspraisingourstudentsfortheiroutstandingmaturity,politeness,andproactivework ethic,withseveralemployersevenhintingatfutureSaturdayjobsorapprenticeshipoffers!This invaluabletasteofthe"realworld"hasnotonlyboostedourstudents'self-confidencebuthasalso providedthemwithcrucialcontextthatwillhelpguidetheirupcomingpost-16choicesandGCSE revisionfocus.
CelebratingOurHeroes:NHSEnrichmentTalk
DuringarecentEnrichmentsession,wewereprivilegedtowelcomeadiverseteamofprofessionals fromtheNHStotalkabouttheincrediblebreadthofcareerswithinourhealthservice.The presentationquicklydispelledthemyththattheNHSonlyconsistsofdoctorsandnurses.Instead, speakershighlightedthevastecosystemof"behind-the-scenes"heroes,includingbiomedical scientists,clinicalpsychologists,speechtherapists,ITspecialists,andestateengineerswhokeepour hospitalsrunningeverysingleday.
Studentswerefascinatedtolearnaboutthedifferententryroutesintothesevitalroles,rangingfrom traditionaluniversitydegreestofullyfundeddegreeapprenticeshipswhereyoucanearnwhileyou learn.Thepassionofthevisitinghealthcareprofessionals wastrulyinfectious,emphasizingnotjustthejobsecurity andvarietywithintheNHS,buttheprofoundsenseof fulfillmentthatcomesfromdedicatingyourcareerto helpingothers.Itwasanincrediblyeye-openingsession thatbroadenedourstudents'horizonsregardingpublic sectorcareers.

Thesummertermmeantthestartofthecricketseason.8schoolsenteredthecompetitionanditworkedin2 ways:winyourfirstmatchyouareenteredintothesemi-finalofthe‘cup’,losethefirstmatchandyouare enteredintothe‘plate’semi-final.
U13’s:OurU13’sstartedtheseasoninstylewithanemphaticvictoryagainstDormston. WethentravelledtoEarlsforourfirsthardballcricketmatchandcameawaywithadramaticvictory.Batting first,wescored65runsfromour12overs.Earlsrespondedstronglyandneededjust9runsfromthefinal18 ballswithplentyofwicketsinhand.HarryTurnerthen steppedupandproducedamatch-definingover,finishingwithahat-trickandleavingEarlswithonlyone wicketremaining.Thetensioncontinuedtobuildasthetargetedgedcloser.WithEarlsneedingjust3runsto winfrom9deliveries,ourteamheldtheirnerveandsealedvictorywitharun-outtodismissthefinalbatter.
Wethenhadanincrediblesemi-finalmatchagainstWombournewherewealsocameoutvictorious,booking ourselvesaplaceinthefinalagainstEllowesHall.

Thecompetitionwasfierce,withteamssplitintotwogroupsandonlythetopspotprogressingtothegrand final.Hereishowourphenomenaldayunfolded:

On18thJune2026,theWalsallArenawasfilledwithmusic,energy,andcelebrationasWindsorAcademyTrust hosteditsannualWATAChoirevent.
Bringingtogether15schoolsfromacrosstheTrust,theshowcasefeatured16outstandingperformancesfrom studentsaged4to18yearsold.Frompowerfulchoirperformancestoexcitingdanceroutines,creativemedleys, andvibrantcostumes,thisyear'seventdemonstratedhowthestandardcontinuestoriseyearafteryear.
Theatmospherethroughoutthedaywaselectric,withstudentscheering,encouraging,andcelebratingone another'ssuccesses.Oneofthemostheartwarmingaspectsoftheeventwastheincrediblesupportshownacross allagegroups,fromEarlyYearspupilstakingtothestageforthefirsttimetoconfidentYear13performers.

StudentsMissingfromLesson
Wetreattruancyfromlessonsseriously;thisisofgreatconcern,asweare unabletoaccountforyourchild'swhereaboutsduringtheseepisodes. We haveworkedwithourcommunitytoensurestudentsareawareofthe consequencesshouldtheytruantfromlessons.Studentswillbechallenged inlinewithourbehaviourpolicy.InitiallythiswillbetimeintheRefocus Room.However,shouldtheissuepersistsitmayresultinpotentialsuspensionfromschool.Wetrustwecan replyuponyoutospeaktoyourchildabouttheseverityoftheissue;studentscannotachieveiftheyarenotin lessonsandthereforewillnotunlocktheiracademicandpersonalpotential.
ToiletPermission
Weencouragestudentstoaccesstoiletsbeforeandafterschool,duringsocialtimesand,wherepossible, avoidingtoiletuseduringlessons.Youareabletotrackyourchild'stoiletuseduringlessonsbylookingatClass Chartsand“ToiletPermission”.AsIamsureyouappreciatelostlearningdirectlyrelatestostudentprogressand wewelcomeyourcontinuedsupportintrackingyourchild'stoiletuseviaClassChartsandencouragingyour childtoaccessthetoiletsawayfromlessons. Toiletpasseswillbeissuedtostudentswithappropriatemedicalevidence(i.e.ifachildisunderaconsultantGPnoteswillnotbeaccepted).
MobilePhones
FromSeptember,MobilephoneswillbestoredinsecureYondrpouches,retainedbystudents,duringtheday. Theyaresealedbeforeenteringthepremisesandreleasedondismissal.
