DearParents/Carers,
Itisalwaysapleasuretosendournewsletterouttoourcommunity.Yetagainwe’vehadahalftermfull ofbrilliantlearning,activitiesandopportunitiesforourstudents,whichyoucanseeforyourselvesover thedozensofpagesincludedhere.
Lastweekwehadourannualperformance-‘HighSchoolMusical’.Year-on-yearIthinkwe’vereached thepinnacle,yeteveryyeartheteamseemstooutperformthemselves!Ahugecongratulationsandwell donetoallofthestudentsinvolved-youwereoutstanding.ToMrsCooper,supportedbyMrCotterill, MsAbelandMissBarnett(plussomanyotherstaffbehindthescenes)-ahugethankyouforwhatyou havedonefortheschoolandthesewonderfullytalentedyoungpeople.Thiswasabrilliantshowand eventfortheschoolandcommunity,Finally,thankyoutoallofthefamilieswhoboughtticketsand sangalong!
Easterisalittleearlierthisyearthanthepastcoupleofyears.Itmeansthatwhenwecomebackafter thebreakthereare6weeksuntilhalfterm.ForYear11studentsthisisyourfinalfullhalfterm.Forsome students,examsstartalmostassoonaswecomebackandgoonuntilthefinalexamonMonday15th June.Takesometimetorestandrecoverovertheholiday,butmakesureyouareusingtheplethoraof materialsyourteachershaveprovidedyouwith-andifyoucan,attendthein-schoolsessionsover Easter(MrCanningshassentouttheschedule).
WewillbecheckinguniformcarefullyafterEaster.Althoughitwilltechnicallybethe‘Summer’term,our uniformrulesdon’tchange.Wewillbeparticularlyfocussingoncorrectfootwearandtrousers(no leggingspermitted),whilstmakingsurethatstudentshaveshirtstucked-inandarewearingtheir blazers.Wearereallyclearonourexpectationsandstudentswillbecheckedagainstthese.Whenthe weatherwarms-upwewilladjustaccordinglyandletyouknow.

MobilePhones
Inthepastfewweeks,inadditiontoassembliesanddiscussionswithstudents,wehaveundertakenasurveywith studentsinYears7-10togathertheiropinionsonmobilephonesinschool.Theconversationshavebeenmature andpositive,tellingusthatmoststudentsappreciatebeingconsultedonthematter.
Thegovernmenthavebeenclearintheirdirective:Mobilephonesareamajordistractionfromlearningandcause avoidablestressandcyberbullying.Itiswithinourgifttodosomethingaboutthis.
Someofthesurveyresults:
40%ofstudentschecktheirphoneupto5timesduringtheday.8%saidtheycheckthem10timesaday. 27%ofstudentssaidtheychecktheirphoneatleasttwoormoretimesduringeachlesson. 16%studentsbelievethatphonesarethecauseofdisruptiontolearning. 19%studentslinkphoneuseinschooltoonlinebullyingviasocialmedia.
Overwhelmingly,studentsexpressedthattheydidn’tmindlosingaccesstotheirphonesbutdidn’twanttohandit ineveryday.Thisisanimportantcompromisewhichwecansupport.Phonepouchesremoveaccesstothedevice duringthedaywhilststudentsretainpossessionoftheirdevice.
Therewassomeapprehensionfromsomestudentsaboutnotbeingabletocontactfamilyduringtheday,andthey raisedquestionsaboutemergencies.Theproceduresforthiswon’tchangetowhatshouldbehappeningnowmainreceptionshouldbecontactedinanemergency.Equally,receptioncancontacthomeshouldtheneedarise.
Thishasbeenaveryworthwhilebitofevidencecollecting.Ithasdemonstratedthatwhilstthemajorityofstudents fullycomplywiththecurrentrulesandprocedures,therearesomewhodon’t.Theknock-onofthisaffectsthe wellbeingandanxietylevelsofmanyyoungpeople.ClaytonHallAcademy-oneofoursisterschoolsinWindsor AcademyTrust-broughtinphonepouchesinJanuary.Theyinstantlysawlessonengagementlevelsrise,toiletuse fallandincidentsofbullyingfall.Aswemoveintothesummertermwewillbelookingathowthismightworkat KingswinfordAcademy.

•ConfidenceandMomentum:Studentswhoattendregularlyfeelmore"intheloop."Thisconfidenceleadsto higherparticipationratesandlessanxietyduringassessments.
•FutureReadiness:Employersandcollegeslookforconsistency.Buildingthehabitofshowingupnow preparesstudentsfortheexpectationsoftheprofessionalworld.
BridgingtheGap
Researchconsistentlyshowsadirectlinkbetweenhighattendanceandhighergrades.Whenstudentsfall below96%,theymissapproximately8daysofschoolayear.Overthecourseofachild'seducation,those "small"gapscanadduptomonthsoflostlearningtime.
Wewanttosupporteveryfamilyinreachingthisgoal.Iftherearebarriersmakingitdifficultforyourchildto gettoschool,pleasereachouttooursupportteamsowecanworktogethertoclearthepath.

Itisnevertooearlytostartlookingatthehorizon,andlastweek,ourYear10studentsdidexactlythat.We weredelightedtowelcomerepresentativesfromHalesowenCollege,whodeliveredanengagingand informativeassemblyfocusedonthediversepathwaysavailabletostudentsaftertheycompletetheir GCSEs.
AsourYear10smovetowardtheirfinalyearofsecondaryeducation,understandingthe"nextsteps"iscrucial formaintainingmotivationandsettingclearpersonalgoals.
ExploringPost-16Options
Theassemblyprovidedacomprehensivelookatthedifferentroutesstudentscantake.HalesowenCollege highlightedthatthereisno"one-size-fits-all"approachtoeducation,showcasingavarietyofpaths:
•A-Levels:Forthoselookingtostudytraditionalsubjectsindepth,oftenleadingtowarduniversity.
•T-Levels:Thenewgoldstandardfortechnicaleducation,offeringamixofclassroomlearningand significantindustryplacements.

BeyondtheClassroom
Therepresentativesalsospokeaboutthetransitionfromschooltocollege life.Theyemphasizedtheindependencestudentsgain,thespecialized facilitiesavailable—suchastheirhigh-techmediasuitesandclinicallabs— andtheextensivesupportnetworkdesignedtohelpstudentsbridgethe gapbetweenYear11andfurthereducation.
ChoosingtherightpathafterYear11isasignificantmilestone,andwe encourageallfamiliestobegintheseconversationsnow.Whetheryour childisleaningtowardalargefurthereducationcollege,aschoolsixth form,oraspecializedapprenticeshipprovider,exploringtheseoptions earlyhelpsreducepressurewhenapplicationseasonarrives.

EKODroneSTEMWorkshop
AbigthankyoutoJackPerrettandJessMeliafromHyettEducationfordeliveringanexcitingdrone workshopto90ofourYear8pupils.
TheEKO(Engagement,Knowledge,andOpportunities)DroneProjectisaSTEM-focusedinitiativeled bytheUKMinistryofDefence’sDefenceNuclearEnterprise(DNE).Theprogrammeisdesignedtobuild students’confidence,sparkcreativity,andraiseawarenessofcareersinscience,technology, engineering,andmathematics(STEM).
Duringthishands-on,interactiveworkshop,pupilshadtheopportunitytoprogrammeandflydronesin ourschoolhall,developingvaluableproblem-solvingandteamworkskillswhilehavinggreatfun. ThestudentsusedtheSwiftprogramminglanguage,andquicklywentfrominstructingthedronesto performbasictaskslikehoveringforaperiodoftime,tointricatelycoordinatedroutinesinvolving rotationandmovinginmultipledirections.

Geography
Thismonth,ourYear11GeographystudentsvisitedCardingMillValleyaspartoftheirpreparationfor theirGCSEPaper3exam.Studentsinvestigatedhowrivercharacteristicschangedownstream, measuringchannelwidth,channeldepth,andbedloadsizeandshapeacross3sites.
Theyapproachedthedaywithenthusiasm-evenwhenitmeantnavigatingunevengroundandthe occasionalsoggyshoes.Thevalleyprovidedtheidealoutdoorclassroom,allowingstudentstoput theirclassroomknowledgetothetestintherealworld.
Studentsdemonstratedteamwork,curiosityandresilienceduringtheirtripandweareproudofhow theyrosetothislatestchallengewiththeirfinalGCSEsonthehorizon.Welookforwardtoseeingthis practicallearningstrengthentheirknowledgeandunderstandingasweapproachthefinalstageof theirGeographyjourneyatKingswinford.

Danceshow
ThedanceshowatStourbridgeTownHall,featuringstudentsfromYears7–10,wastrulyincredible andleftalastingimpressiononeveryonewhoattended.Theirperformance,dedicatedtoMental HealthAwarenessWeek,wasbothpowerfulanddeeplymoving,usingchoreographytoexpress emotionsandhighlighttheimportanceofmentalwellbeing.Eachstudentperformedwith confidenceandpassion,creatingapiecethatwasnotonlyvisuallystunningbutalsomeaningfuland thought-provoking.Itwasamazingtoseehowmucheffortanddedicationtheyhadputintothe performance,andthewaytheysupportedoneanotheronstagewasinspiring.Thegirlsputinhours ofrehearsaltimeanddedicationwhichIamtrulygratefulfor.Iamsoproudofeverysingleoneof themfortheirhardwork,courage,andcommitmenttoperforminfrontofalargeaudience,youare allstars!AlsoIwanttogiveamassiveshoutouttoImmyFisherwhoperformedasolo choreographedbyherselfduringtheshow.Thiswasabeautifuldancepieceperformedwith

Thegirlshavecontinuedtoworkhardintheirnetballtournamentsandfixtures.Theyear9s havebeencommittedonceagain,earningadrawintheirfirstgamebackagainstPegasus. Theyear7smatchesstartthisweek,aftermonthsofdedication,hopingforawintostartthe season.
Year7’sand8’stookpartintheWATnetballtournamentlastweekatWOA.Thegirlsworked hardasateamandpushedeachothertoachievesuccess.Theyear8teamearned2ndplace overall,anamazingachievementwelldone!Theyear7teamearnedasuccessful3rdplace overall,anotheramazingachievement!Asthiswasthefirsttimeyear7scompetingagainst otherschools,thiswasagoodachievement!

Despiteachallengingstarttotheseason,ourYear10footballteamhasshowntremendousspiritand determinationintheiropeningthreematches.Whiletheresultshaven’tyetgoneourway,theplayers’ commitment,teamwork,andpositiveattitudehavebeenclearforeveryonetosee. Eachgamehasbroughtvaluablelessons,andthesquadcontinuestogrowstronger—bothindividuallyandas ateam.Therehavealreadybeensomeexcellentpassagesofplay,improvedcommunicationonthepitch,and arealwillingnesstosupportoneanotherthrougheverymoment. Withtwofixturesstilltoplay,theteamremainsfocusedandmotivated.Welookforwardtoseeingtheir continuedprogressandcelebratingtheachievementsthataresuretocomeagainstSummerhillandDormston aftertheEasterbreak.
WindsorAcademyTrust(WAT)hasbeenrecognisednationallyafterwinningtheOutstandingApproachto WellbeingAwardatthe2026YouthSportTrustConferenceAwards.TheTrustplacesPE,sportandphysical activityatthecentreofitsvision,supportingpupilstoachieveandthrivethroughtheimplementationofthe YouthSportTrust’sWellSchoolframework.AcrosstheTrust,75%ofpupilstakepartinatleastoneweekly physicalactivityclub,andcurriculumtimededicatedtoPEexceedsnationalrecommendations.This achievementreflectsthestrengthanddepthofthePEprovisionacrossallschoolsintheTrust,fromprimary throughtosecondary.
ThissuccessismadepossiblebytheincrediblePEteamhereatKingswinford,alongsidethededicatedPE teamsacrosstheTrust,whodeliverthisoutstandingprovisioneveryday.Itisanachievementwecanallbe extremelyproudof,especiallytoreceiverecognitiononanationalstage.

StrongNumbersContinueatSchoolSportsClubs
Schoolsportsclubshaveonceagainseenstrongattendance,withstudentscontinuingtomakethe mostofthewiderangeofopportunitiesavailableafterschool.Acrossthehalfterm,pupilsfrom differentyeargroupshavebeentakingpartinavarietyofactivitiesandsports,improvingtheirskill setandconfidence,whilealsomakingnewfriends.
Aswemovetowardsthewarmermonths,keepaneyeoutforournewtimetableofsummer sports,whichwillbringevenmoreopportunitiesforstudentstogetinvolvedandtrysomething new.

StudentKickboxerCelebratesInternationalSuccess
Atalentedstudentkickboxerhasenjoyedanoutstandingstarttotheyear,achievingsuccesson boththenationalandinternationalstage.
InJanuary,ChloetravelledtoGreecetocompeteintheAthensEuropeanCup,whereshesecured animpressivesilvermedalandbronzemedal.Theseresultshavehelpedpropelherintothetop10 oftheworldrankingsinhercategory.
Morerecently,ChloecompetedattheICOEnglishChampionships,enteringthreecategoriesand winninggoldinallthree,makingherathree-timeICOEnglishChampionfor2026.Thisaddstothe threegoldmedalsshewonatthesameeventlastyear,continuinganexceptionalrunofform. HervictorieshavealsoearnedherqualificationtorepresentICOEnglandattheWorldGames, althoughChloehopestoinsteadrepresentKickboxingGB,withthenationalchampionshiptaking placeinApril.
Chloe’sbusycompetitionschedulecontinuesthisweekasshetravelstoJesolo,nearVenice,to competeintheItalianWorldCup,whereshewillbetheonlycompetitorrepresentingherclub. TheschoolhascongratulatedChloeonherdedicationandachievementsandwishesherthevery bestforherupcominginternationalcompetitions.

SinceChristmas,wehavemovedontotheexamunitofthecourse,inwhichAvaandSowaibah havethrived.Theirhardworkinsideandoutsideoflessonsispayingoffastheywereabletosecure aL2Dintheirfirstmockexamforsportsstudies.Welldoneboth,keepitup!
RunningSuccess-EnglishSchoolsCrossCountryChampionships
IzzyandNahumaretalentedyoungathletesfromKingswinford,andtheybothwereselectedto representtheWestMidlandsSchoolsattheprestigiousEnglishSchoolsCrossCountry Championships,tobeheldatSeftonParkinLiverpool.
TheirselectionfollowsastrongperformanceattheWestMidlandsSchoolsChampionships.Thetop sixfinishersearnedthehonorofrepresentingtheWestMidlandsatthenationalchampionships, andtheirresulthassecuredthemaplace.
Bothoftheirexceptionalachievementsareatestamenttotheirhardworkanddetermination.

OurKS3girls’teamputinafantasticperformanceintheirrecentmatchagainstDormstonSchool. Theteamshowedgreatdetermination,teamwork,andresiliencethroughoutthegame,competing stronglyfromstarttofinish.
Despitetheirefforts,thematchendedinanarrow1–0victoryforDormston.Ourplayersdefended wellandcreatedseveralpromisingmoments,demonstratingtheirimprovingskillsandpositive attitudeonthepitch.
Thegirlsshouldbeveryproudoftheirperformance,showingexcellentsportsmanshipand commitmentthroughoutthematch.Welldonetoeveryoneinvolved,welookforwardtoseeing theteamcontinuetogrowanddevelopinfuturefixtures.

KingswinfordAcademyattendstheCommonwealthDayServiceofCelebration
StudentsfromKingswinfordAcademywerehonouredtoattendtheCommonwealthDayService ofCelebrationonMonday9thMarch.MissAbelandMrDimmockwereaccompaniedbyaselection ofourSeniorPrefectsandStudentSenatemembersforthisprestigiousevent,whichbrought togetherrepresentativesfromacrosstheCommonwealth.Theservicewasattendedbymembers oftheRoyalFamily,includingKingCharlesIII,QueenCamilla,PrinceWilliam,PrinceofWales, Catherine,PrincessofWales,andThePrincessRoyal,alongsidepoliticiansandrepresentativesfrom eachCommonwealthcountry.Thecelebrationfeaturedinspiringspeechesfromfigureswithinthe ArtsIndustry,aswellasarangeofmusicalperformancesandbeautifulballetroutines,highlighting thediversityandculturalrichnessoftheCommonwealth.Itwasamemorableandinspiring experienceforourstudents,whowereproudtorepresenttheschoolatsuchasignificantoccasion. Congratulationstoallthestudentswhotookpartinlastweek’sschoolproductionofHighSchool Musical.
OnTuesday17thMarch,weweredelightedtowelcomeYear5pupilsfromBelleVue,DawleyBrook, andBlanfordMere,alongwithsevenguestsfromtheRoyalBritishLegion,toourmatinee performance.Wewereespeciallytouchedtoreceiveabeautifulhandmadecardfromthepupilsof BelleVue,whosharedhowmuchtheyenjoyedtheshowandhowexcitedtheyaretojoinour productionswhentheybecomeYear7students.Itwaslovelytoseehowourcivicpartnerships continuetobroadenacrossourcommunity.
TheProductionTeamwouldliketosayaspecialthankyoutoallthestudentsinvolvedwho demonstratedcommitment,resilienceandenthusiasmthroughouttheentireproductionjourney. Studentshaveguidedtheirpeers,madenewfriendships,andwillholdontothesememoriesforthe restoftheirlives.

Scouting
ThreeexceptionalstudentsfromKingswinfordAcademyhaveachievedsomethingtrulyremarkable.Brockton Middleton-Abbott,FreyaBennett,andSkyleighMorrishavebeenselectedtorepresentWestMerciaandthe UnitedKingdomatthe26thWorldScoutJamboree,whichwillbeheldinPolandin2027.
Thisisanextraordinaryaccomplishment.ThetriowerechosenfromthousandsofScoutsacrosstheUKtoattend the26thWorldScoutJamboree,makingtheirselectionahugehonourandatestamenttotheirdedication, character,andcommitmenttoScouting.RepresentingbothWestMerciaandtheUKonaninternationalstageis aonce-in-a-lifetimeopportunityandonethatveryfewyoungpeopleeverexperience.
TheWorldScoutJamboreeisoneofthelargestyouth eventsintheworld,bringingtogethertensofthousands ofScoutsfromcountriesacrosstheglobe.Duringthe event,Brockton,FreyaandSkyleighwillhavethechance tomeetyoungpeoplefromdifferentcultures,build lifelongfriendships,developleadershipskills,andtake partinawiderangeofadventurousandeducational activities.Mostimportantly,theywillproudlyrepresent theUKandtheBlackCountryonaninternationallevel.
Allthreestudentsaremembersof2ndLowerGornal Scouts,wheretheyhaveshownoutstandingenthusiasm andcommitmenttotheirlocalScoutgroupand community.Theirselectionreflectsyearsofhardwork, participation,andlivingbytheScoutingethos.
EveryoneatKingswinfordAcademyisincrediblyproud oftheirachievement.Tobeselectedfromsuchalargenationalpoolofcandidateshighlightstheirresilience, teamwork,anddetermination.TheyarefantasticambassadorsnotonlyfortheirScoutgroup,butalsoforour schoolandthewidercommunity.
Totakepartinthisglobalevent,eachScoutmustraise£3,000tocoverthecostoftheJamboree,travel,and essentialequipment.Brockton,FreyaandSkyleigharealreadyworkingextremelyhardtoreachthistarget.They areorganisingandtakingpartinawiderangeoffundraisingactivities,includingaskittlesnight,aquiznight,a musicnight,raffles,sponsoredevents,andmanyotherlocalcommunityinitiatives.

DuringthishalftermourCivicLeaderStudentLeadershipgroupvisitedRiversideCareCentre, creatingawarmandmemorableafternoonforresidentsandstudentsalike.Thestudentsspent timechattingwithresidents,sharingstories,andbuildingmeaningfulconnectionsacross generations.Theyorganisedsimplegamesthatbroughtplentyoflaughterandfriendly competition,helpingeveryonefeelincluded.Thevisitalsofeaturedarelaxedcoffeeandcake afternoon,givingresidentsthechancetosocialiseandenjoyapleasanttreattogether.The studentsrepresentedtheschoolwithkindness,confidence,andrespect,demonstratingthetrue spiritofleadershipthroughserviceandcommunityengagement.Itwasawonderfulexperiencefor everyoneinvolved.
Nexthalfterm,studentswillcontinuetheircommunityengagementbyvisitingadditionalcare homes,providingfurtheropportunitiestospendmeaningfultimewithresidents.Theywillalsobe visitinglocalprimaryschoolstoworkwithYear6pupils,supportingthemastheypreparefortheir transitiontosecondaryschool.Thesevisitsaimtobuildconfidence,offerreassurance,andhelp pupilsfeelmorefamiliarwiththenextstageoftheireducation.

StudentleadershipgroupsatKingswinfordAcademyplayavitalroleinshapingapositive, inclusive,andforward-thinkingschoolculture.Withover350studentsactivelyinvolved,these groupsprovidemeaningfulopportunitiesforyoungpeopletotakeownership,developconfidence, andmakeagenuineimpactacrosstheschoolandwidercommunity.Throughtheirinvolvement, studentsareabletobuildandapplyourASPIREskills,equippingthemwithessentialqualitiessuch asteamwork,resilience,communication,andleadershipthatwillsupporttheirfuturecareers.By leadingprojectsacrosstheschoolandengagingwiththelocalcommunity,studentsnotonly contributetocontinuousimprovementbutalsogainvaluablereal-worldexperience,empowering themtobecomeresponsible,proactivecitizens.
MissAbelmetwithBrianBassingthwaitethishalftermtoco-designsomecollaborativeprojectsin whichourECOAmbassadorsandCivicLeaderswillbroadentheirpartnershipswithKingswinford CommunitygroupstosupportanddeveloptheirKingswinford&WallHeathinBloomprojects.We havealsobeeninvitedtoassisttheteamswiththeirproposedprojectstodevelopKingGeorgeVI park.Wearelookingforwardtobeingpartofcommunityprojectsthatwillfurtherimproveour localenvironment.

Thishalfterm,ourStudentSenateshavebeenworkinghardtoensurethatstudentvoicesarenot onlyheard,butactedupon.Akeyfocushasbeenrespondingdirectlytothefeedbackgathered throughourstudentvoiceinitiatives.
Oneofthemainareaswehavebeenexploringistherefectory/canteenexperience.Weknowhow importantthisspaceisforallstudents,andwearecommittedtomakingitasenjoyable,efficient, andinclusiveaspossible.Tosupportthis,StudentSenatemembershavebeenactivelycollecting feedbackfromtheirpeers.
Weareaskingstudentstosharetheirthoughtsonwhatisworkingwell,whatcouldbeimproved, andanyneworinnovativeideastheywouldliketoseeintroduced.Thisincludeseverythingfrom menuoptionsandpricingtoqueuetimes,seating,andtheoverallenvironment.
Thefeedbackgatheredwillplayacrucialroleinshapingfuturechanges.Ouraimistowork collaborativelywithstafftoturnstudentsuggestionsintomeaningfulimprovements.

Eco-Ambassadors
Overthislasthalfoftermwehavebeenworkingpredominantlywithinourschoolcommunity.Our eco-ambassadorsarecurrentlyworkingontheNationalEducationNaturalParkevaluation.Thiswill hopefullyprovideuswithusefulinformationtosupporttheecologywithinourschoolenvironment.We havesofarbeenlookingathabitatmappingthesitetoseewhathabitatsandareasweseenaturein aroundthesite. Wehavealsobeenencouragingourstudentstowritepoemsaboutnature. Wehave hadsomeamazingresponseslikethefollowingexamplefromMasonCarringtonYear10.
KingswinfordAcademyhasbeen selectedtotakepartinthe NationalEducationNaturePark programmeandaprestigious researchprojectrunbytheRoyal HorticulturalSociety.Thisisa fantasticopportunityforour studentsaspartofour commitmenttosustainability andourenvironment.
OurEcoAmbassadorswillbe conductingarangeofnature basedactivitiesduringThursday lunchtimesandwillcomplete surveyslinkingourengagement withnatureandourmental health.ActivitiesincludeHabitat Mapping,WildlifeMapping, Pollinatorcounts,Writingpoetry inspiredbynature,lookingat waystomakeourgreyspaces moregreenandcompletingthe HiddenNatureChallenge.Each oftheseactivitieswillcontribute toaglobaldatabase,helpingto mapourlocalhabitatsandthe wonderfulwildlifethatshareour spaces.
