Cosmic Origins

In the beginning, there was a void full of stars One of which was Tàiyáng-Wáng (Sun King) His presence burning hot and bright Also within the void were chunks of rock Tàiyáng-Wáng saw one close to him, and he claimed it as his He saw seven more right in his path, and grabbed them as well But just having these rocks didn’t satisfy Tàiyáng-Wáng. So he looked upon the second rock he had claimed, and unleashed his power onto it. The rock became burnt and barren, the skies becoming toxic and dark. Tàiyáng-Wáng found joy in conquering the rock, so he then attempted to do the same to the third.

However, what Tàiyáng-Wáng wasn’t aware of was that this rock was the home of Tiānkōng-Nǚwáng (Sky Queen). Tiānkōng-Nǚwáng felt the heat and power of Tàiyáng-Wáng beating down upon her. She cried out for help, in hopes that someone would answer And that, someone did Yuèliàng-Nǚshén (Moon Goddess) heard the cries of desperation and agony from Tiānkōng-Nǚwáng, and she moved to intervene Yuèliàng-Nǚshén took her might and made a shield around the rock where Tiānkōng-Nǚwáng lived When Tàiyáng-Wáng realized this, he was very mad. He unleashed his raw fury on Yuèliàng-Nǚshén and shredded her into pieces Tàiyáng-Wáng once more tried to break through the shield, but failed to When he was about to break through, the shield regenerated. Yuèliàng-Nǚshén reformed and told Tàiyáng-Wáng that her life powers the shield. And as long as she stands, he will not be able to harm Tiānkōng-Nǚwáng. And so with this, the cycle of Tàiyáng-Wáng trying to break through Yuèliàng-Nǚshén as well as her shield continued, only having the power to focus on one at a time. And every time he destroyed Yuèliàng-Nǚshén, she would always piece herself back together

Meanwhile, Tiānkōng-Nǚwáng lived happily With her on the rock was Shù-Rén (Tree Man) Being isolated on this world together made them fall in love, and together they had four children The first was Shān (Mountain), and from him, the hills and caves were formed. The second was Hē (River), and from her, the streams and oceans were forged The third was Fēng (Wind), and from her, the different conditions of weather were born. The fourth and final child was Haǒzāi (Fire), and from him, chaos and destruction came to be. His brother, Shān, saw this, and trapped his brother within him. However, this only condensed the problem, as volcanoes came from this And once the spirit of Haǒzāi escaped, he took advantage of his sister, Fēng’s, weakness towards him From this, lightning struck and Fēng roars out in distress every time

Oblivious to his children’s quarrels, Shù-Rén made animals to populate this luscious world. One of these creatures were humans Shù-Rén took great pride in his creations, especially the humans He loved them so much passed the point of his own children When the children realized this, they would take random opportunities to torture the humans. In response to this, the humans took out their frustrations with the Earth, destroying the land, not understanding that it was the other elements

Tàiyáng-Wáng watched this, and saw an opportunity He would wait for a weakness, and sneak one of his spawn into this world of chaos, and as he grew bigger and more powerful, the rock that was home to Tiānkōng-Wáng and Shù-Rén would soon fall under his bright and burning control

In light of this, Yuèliàng-Nǚshén selected a human avatar to harness her powers within a special blade to fight off Tàiyáng-Wáng’s influence And with this, the humans learned that they must not be so closed minded

and full of hate The avatar passed blade down within his family for generations, but once it was lost, the humans forgot And conflict once more began, continuing to fuel Tàiyáng-Wáng and his furious rage

枯萎的花。

枯萎的花/Withered Flowers

English Translation:

The time it takes for a petal to fall can be one second, one day, one month, or even one year

A bouquet placed inside a vase will always go through withering, and being replaced by something new

Sometimes I cannot tell whether I am the petal already turned a dry yellow, loosening now and then, ready to fall

Or the petal that must grow into brighter colors, climb higher and higher, simply because it is expected to

I think I have found the answer:

If everyone changes themselves only because they want to be different, forcing themselves to become someone they never wished to be, then how are they any different from the flowers in a vase?

Though each of us carries our own colors, our own scent,

the one arranging the flowers will always place them in a bunch, never as a single stem

On this road called life, there will always be some who remain ordinary all the way through.

Should I Shower Today Or Not?

English Translation:

Should I shower today or not, ugh, to wash or not to wash (T ^ T)

The 365 days in a year are determined by the Earth's revolution around the Sun; the 30±1 days in a month are determined by the moon's cycle; and the length of a day is determined by the Earth's rotation. But who the hell invented the seven-day week?!

First of all, 7 is a prime number, which means its only factors are 1 and itself This means every time I try to plan my hair-washing schedule, whether it's every two days or every three days, it just won't align with the seven-day week. One solution is to use a two-week, 14-day washing cycle, but every aspect of human society operates on a seven-day cycle, like school and work. Which means if I adopt a 14-day washing cycle, every time I make a plan I have to think in two-week blocks I usually go on a two-day washing cycle (i e , wash every other day) and I want to shower on Sunday evening Because most of the time, Monday is seen as a fresh start, a chance to turn over a new leaf and become a new person You don't want to start a new week with stinky hair either, right?

The second solution is to wash every day, but that's obviously unrealistic Never mind whether daily showering is good or bad for your skin barrier (it can lead to over-cleansing), there are always days when you're just too tired After a long day, all you want is to collapse into bed and not do another single thing Plus, daily showering is a huge waste of time

In conclusion, the seven-day week design is absolute garbage, a relic Why couldn't God have used five days when creating the world? Then a week would be six days (five days creating the world, one day of rest),

and 6 is the smallest perfect number! And it has factors 2 and 3, which also match better with the length of a month (6×5=30) Then everything would be so convenient A four-day workweek with two days off two even numbers just look so much more pleasing to the eye.

Showering is a very troublesome and painful affair. First, you need a block of freely disposable time, and you have to give up all the social and entertainment activities during that rare free time to go do a completely joyless task that serves only your physical maintenance. Next, you have to start the prep work: waiting for the water to heat up, taking off your clothes, grabbing all the toiletries, etc. Finally, when you actually start washing, after all the effort of adjusting the water to just the right temperature where you finally feel a hint of comfort, you have to stop and start lathering body wash or shampoo. Your body, already accustomed to the hot water, experiences a piercing, bone-deep cold the moment you turn the water off And this process repeats twice! (Three times if you use conditioner.) After you finish showering, it gets even colder and you're completely soaked. You have to dry your body off first and then start blow-drying your hair. The sound of the hair dryer running and the sound of the wind slicing through the air are both terrifying. (I really hate using a hair dryer; it's just way too loud.) If you don't blow-dry, sleeping with wet hair is uncomfortable to say the least, and you'll wake up with a headache the next day.

Every time, it takes me a very, very long time to convince myself to shower (¬_¬)

My Exchange Story

I came almost 9 months ago because I wanted to have the experience of living one year away from my country, family, and have the opportunity to learn another language The first day when I said goodbye to my family was one of the saddest days in my life, seeing how they were crying and knowing how badly they were gonna miss me The first three days were a nightmare, I was homesick, everything was so new and weird I didn't know the people I was going to live with for almost a year, my English was bad, and I didn’t understand most of the things. I just wanted to go home with my friends and family and speak my own language

Then I chose soccer as a sport. Everything was going better until we ran two laps around the field, I almost died and I started hating soccer They were explaining the instructions and I was lost, I didn’t have friends in soccer After a few weeks, I started being friends with the girls in soccer, so I started liking soccer The soccer season ended, I was happy but sad. My English was better than the beginning, I met a lot of people, and I had more friends

After a few months living here, everything was so much better Winter was coming, I had never been in a place colder than Winchendon I started doing skiing as my winter sport and sometimes I was asking myself what I was thinking about going skiing with those temperatures. Whatever, there’s not a lot to say about that season

Now we started this season, the last step to finish the year Now I’m doing tennis as a sport and I really like it, and it is not about the sport, it’s more about the people and coaches. I really enjoyed the last few weeks with the people that I liked

Something that made me feel really good and safe when I came here is the teachers, they are always trying to make you feel comfortable, especially my dorm parent, Miss Rosas She really helped me at the beginning Being an exchange student is not easy at all, but there are people that make you feel like home, and it’s funny because almost a year made me feel that this is my home, so now, I’m finally leaving home to go home…

How Did My Father Succeed?

Anonymous

I'm an international student from China. I will share how my father went from being penniless to successful and even sent me to study abroad Eighty thousand US dollars is my annual tuition fee in the United States In China, an average person earns 5,000 yuan a month They would need to work for eight years without eating or drinking to afford my tuition for one year I will tell you how he became rich and very successful from having no money at all.

When my father was a child, our family lived in extreme poverty. His father, my grandfather, was a poor fisherman Life was hard for ordinary families back then, and having meat for a meal was a rare luxury Even as a young boy, my father showed strong self discipline. He woke up at six every morning, cooked breakfast for the whole family, and then rode an old, worn out bicycle a long distance to school He worked very hard, he was admitted to the best middle school and later the best high school in his city

He went to high school He had never learned English before, and it is very hard for him At night, he secretly studied English under his blanket with a flashlight, trying not to disturb his roommates He was even reported for this and had to move out of his dormitory After years of persistent hard work, he overcame countless difficulties and was accepted into Beijing Institute of Technology, and later earned a postgraduate degree from Tongji University.

After graduation, my father didn't want an ordinary life He wants his family to live a good life He initially worked in a foreign trade company for five years During this period, he lived frugally and saved almost every penny. He also accumulated rich working experience and business connections.

With his accumulation, he finally started his own foreign trade company, which was very small I was very busy at the beginning He works day and night and manages several people Gradually, his company had a stable customer base Later, he expanded his business and opened his own factory He arrives at the factory at 7 every morning and often stays very late to solve operational problems Through his continuous efforts and strict management, both the company and the factory have become increasingly powerful and profitable

Today, my father is extremely successful He can easily afford my overseas education expenses and provide a comfortable life for our whole family. However, he was almost never lazy or arrogant. Relax at most once in a while He still works hard every day to manage his business as he did before

My father's success does not come from luck or talent It comes from his persistence and efforts His story tells me that as long as you are willing to work hard, you can change your destiny.

Pencil

Once upon a time, there was an animal named Pencil Pencil was so eager to play D1 basketball, but there was one problem: he tore his Achilles tendon 2 weeks before the season started Pencil was devastated; he considered dropping out of school But his coach allowed him to redshirt

While he was sleeping, he awoke to the sound of his crutches arguing. They went by the names of Raquel and Darnell They spoke to him, and they told him there was a way for him to be smarter for next season The crutches wanted him to prove to the world why he redshirted. They told him that the next day, he would have to sneak into his neighbor's pool, go to the bottom, and speak with the wizard

So, the next day, he went and couldn't go in. There was a keyhole at the bottom of the pool, and he had to find a way to open it. So, he went back to his crutches, and he asked them how he could retrieve them. Raquel and Darnell told him that he would have to win 20 games of Uno in a row against them So he played, and played, and played until sunset The crutches kept beating him, but Pencil had a plan; he force-fed Nyquil to them to make them lose focus on the game This worked, and he won the 20 games So he went back to the pool, inserted the key into the lock, and finally, he was face-to-face with the wizard The wizard told him that he could give him the gift of court vision All he had to do was throw Raquel and Darnell in the pool. So, pencil did, and he was granted the gift of court vision.

Next season, when he was finally able to play, he let the coach know what would happen and why Everyone put their trust in him In the last game, it was tied 67-68, and Pencil’s team had the ball They gave Pencil the ball, and with 2 seconds left, he made a behind-the-back full-court shot for the game. Everyone cheered for him, and it was the greatest moment of Pencil’s life He then went on to the NBA

Experiencing Winch

Anonymous

At first I thought it was just to pick up my luggage and go somewhere else But now it really happened I decided that it was to move away from people, experiences and habits This is a part of my life

What I earned at the Winchendon School was not academics I learned how to live in a dorm, how to divide time and how to solve problems by myself There are interesting and difficult days Sometimes I feel lost and confused, and sometimes I’m proud of myself I rescued my friend on the street and met the teacher They support me when I need them.

I am currently studying at a new school I’m nervous, but at the same time I’m very excited A new school means a new class, a teacher and a friend I don’t know what will happen, it makes me nervous However, I think this is a good opportunity for me to learn. I want to be more confident, work hard and make the best choice

Changes can sometimes be challenging, but they are still very important On the road, we sometimes have to let go of what we are familiar with to get something better. I know I missed an event at my old school, but I still went on a new journey that I was looking forward to This taught me to be brave in the process of growing up Even if the path ahead is vague

I learned early

Fluent in Almost

how to shrink myself into acceptable shapes folding my laughter smaller, swallowing opinions like pills, apologizing for taking up space before anyone asked me to.

There is a particular loneliness in feeling unwanted while people still love you.

Because they do love me In the way people love sunsets they never stop to watch. In the way they say my name while already reaching for someone else

I have spent years standing in crowded rooms feeling like the ghost of a person who hadn’t died yet.

And maybe that sounds dramatic, but tell me what do you call it when you hand everyone pieces of yourself until there’s barely enough left to recognize in the mirror?

I became fluent in almost. Almost pretty enough. Almost smart enough Almost worthy of staying.

A human placeholder people held onto until something better arrived

The cruelest part is I tried so hard

God, I tried

I answered late-night calls

Remembered birthdays

Stayed gentle with people who handled my heart carelessly, like it was something cheap they could replace if broken.

And every time someone left, I told myself to be easier to love next time.

Quieter

Prettier Less emotional Less me.

I wonder how many versions of myself I buried alive just to keep from being abandoned.

Sometimes I think if someone cut me open they would find nothing inside except teeth marks proof of all the times I swallowed my pain instead of letting it exist

The truth is, I don’t know how to believe I am enough when every person I ever wanted looked at me like I was missing something

Like there was a door in me that wouldn’t open.

Like loving me always came with a hesitation

So now I lie awake at 2 a m cataloging my failures like prayer beads Replaying conversations where I laughed too loud

or loved too much or needed someone at the wrong time.

And somewhere out there, people who hurt me are sleeping peacefully.

While I am still here wondering why I was never worth the small tendernesses.

Why nobody stayed long enough to prove I could be chosen without becoming someone else first.

Maybe that’s what breaks me most not that I was abandoned, but that I keep believing I deserved it

My Chocolate

Genevive Jean-Charles

They say life is like a box of chocolates,

You never know what you're going to get

Well I hope I get a chocolate,

That I will not regret

As these days go on,

I’ve realized I’ve gone askew

But I want to be better,

To impress people like you

I won’t always be like this,

I’m growing as we speak

And one day you will see me,

And I’ll be at my peak.

Maybe I’ve lost a screw

You guys aren’t all that,

But I don’t want to fade from your view

So I will work hard,

I’ll try something new

I will try the best I can,

To impress people like you

It’s A Pleasure To Know You

Music & Lyrics: Karl Williams

It’s a pleasure to know you

It’s a pleasure to see you smile

A comfort to know

We’ll share the road a while

The pleasures are fleeting

The comforts are far between

It’s a pleasure to know you

And the comforts you bring

I came to your city

After I’d left my home

And I was a stranger,

Dressed up in a stranger’s clothes

The favors I needed

The charity’s out of style

And rare is the beauty

In the face of a trusting child

They say life’s a journey

A highway from birth to death

A map in despair

A travel in hopelessness

Well they may believe it

But just between you and me

The trick to the travelin’

It’s a pleasure to know you

It’s a pleasure to see you smile

A comfort to know

We’ll share the road a while

The pleasures are fleeting

The comforts are far between

It’s a pleasure to know you

And the comforts you bring

Lovers may leave you

Lovers may turn away

Others may scorn you

You know that they will someday

The seasons are fickle

And fate is not known as kind

But friendship’s a diamond

And trouble’s a diamond mine

It’s time know for leavin,

And sadness that we must part

Our joy is believin’

You’ll never leave our heart

We can’t know the future

Tomorrow remains unclear

But one thing’s for certain

You’ll always be home right here

It’s a pleasure to know you

It’s a pleasure to see you smile

A comfort to know

We’ll share the road a while

The pleasures are fleeting

The comforts are far between

It’s a pleasure to know you

And the comforts you bring
