Pandemic! 2020 will be remembered as the year of COVID-19, a coronavirus that swept the Earth. Within weeks, every state in the U.S. had declared a State of Emergency as almost everyone was ordered to quarantine in place. Businesses not considered essential were closed and 0social distancing1 became the norm. People wore masks and gloves when they did venture out. And members of the community grieved as loved ones were lost. At WFS, we continued our learning. With everyone in grades 5-12 having laptops, those teachers held classes via Zoom. Teachers for younger grades had to get more creative. How this affected spring sports and events will be covered in our spring supplement.

This spring supplement is a bit different because this spring was a bit different. As schools across the world closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, WFS administrators, faculty, staff, and students rose to the challenge.

WFS Under Quarantine! Staying true to the Quaker testimony of Community, staff and students collected and delivered emergency supplies, made masks, and thanked emergency workers. Although the months of April and May were not what anyone had looked forward to (especially our seniors), students at WFS continued their learning and made new memories that will last lifetimes. And perhaps even started some new traditions!

Everyone set up workspaces at home (which were often invaded by younger siblings and pets), held meetings and classes via Zoom, performed science experiments in kitchens, explored nature, and exercised outside. They learned how to stay healthy by washing hands, wearing masks, and social distancing.

Sports seasons were cut short, but we were able to take casual group photos of most teams as well as action shots of many. We thank everyone who contributed photos for this supplement. They range from screenshots and cell phone photos sent in by students and parents to the lovely professional ones taken by Elisa Morris. We hope you enjoy them. Remote Learning
