An Architect-Led Approach to Outdoor Living by Omega Landscape Construction
The most successful outdoor spaces begin with thoughtful planning. That is why the Omega team takes an architect-led approach to every project. By collaborating with talented landscape architects, Omega develops a comprehensive vision for each property before construction begins. Pools, patios, stonework, gardens, and gathering spaces are designed to work together seamlessly, creating constructed environments that feel both beautiful and intentional.
“We intentionally keep our project list small so we can stay intimately involved in every detail. While this level of attention is reflected in our pricing, our clients believe the added focus and craftsmanship are well worth the investment.”
— Megan Jenkins
At Omega, proper planning is everything. It’s what allows for peaceful, seamless builds where problems are solved before construction ever begins. With projects throughout Middleburg and Western Loudoun, they are now bringing projects to life right here in Willowsford and Creighton Farms.

“We love Hounds Town. Our Golden Retriever puppy (Frankie), has been going there for about 6 months. Darren and his team are amazing, the facility is very nice, and I feel like Frankie is well cared for there. We highly recommend!”
FOR HOUNDS TOWN DULLES, KRISTIN MAY
“We couldn’t be happier with the work Harriford Exterior Restoration did on our home. Our siding was in disrepair due to faulty installation by our builder, and honestly, we weren’t sure what to expect going into the project — but from start to finish, Brandon and his crew exceeded every expectation.”
FOR HARRIFORD EXTERIOR RESTORATION, KEVIN AND MICHELLE MCSORLEY
“We appreciated having Dr. Niu come to our home when my son was sick. She diagnosed and treated him without having to get him dressed and leave the couch. So convenient and comfortable. Dr. Niu was warm, patient and thorough. It was nice not to have to bundle him up and drive him to a doctor’s office - AND we were able to go through our insurance! Highly recommend! 11 out of 10!”
FOR PEDIATRIC HOUSECALLS, SUSAN MITCHELL
“Our experience with NoVA Luxury Travels has been nothing short of exceptional. From the very beginning, Kevin went above and beyond to make sure every detail of our anniversary cruise was perfectly planned. He stayed in constant communication with us through text messages, emails, and phone calls; always making himself available to answer questions and provide guidance. Most importantly, he truly listened to what we wanted and tailored the trip to fit our needs, making the entire planning process smooth and enjoyable.”

Full in the Best Way
“The best thing to hold onto in life is each other.”
AUDREY HEPBURN
Hello, Willowsford Community Residents,
May always feels full in the very best way. Calendars fill quickly this time of year. College graduations, spring concerts, and full sports schedules all seem to overlap, pulling us outside and into more time together. Patios open up, evenings stretch longer, and neighbors find themselves lingering just a little more between everything else going on.
It is a busy season, but it is also one of the most meaningful. So much of life is happening all at once. Milestones are being celebrated, new chapters are beginning, and the days are filled with moments that, while sometimes hectic, are the ones we will look back on and remember most.
With Mother’s Day this month, it is a natural time to pause and recognize the people who help hold so much together. Whether it is mothers, grandmothers, or those who step into that role in their own way, their support, encouragement, and steady presence are woven into so many of these moments. Often behind the scenes, but always making a lasting impact.
Here in Willowsford, that energy is easy to see. It shows up on the sidelines, at performances, on back patios, and in the everyday ways neighbors support one another. It is what makes this community feel connected, even in the busiest of seasons.
As you flip through this issue of Stroll Willowsford, you will find neighbors and local businesses who are part of these same moments. Our Preferred Providers, many of whom are your own neighbors, help make this publication possible each month. As you settle into this busy season and spend more time together, I hope you’ll think of them and continue sharing your experiences. That word of mouth is what keeps our community strong.
Here’s to a month that feels full, meaningful, and filled with the people who make it all matter.
33 years married and still grateful for where it all began — Virginia Tech, 1988. In a full season like this, it’s the moments together that matter most.
Willowsford wouldn’t be complete without its incredible volunteers, and we truly cannot thank them enough for their hard work, heart, and dedication to our community. This year, we’re celebrating them in a creative new way!
We’re excited to announce our 1st Annual Volunteer Shirt Art Contest and invite all talented Willowsford kids and teen artists to participate. We want to see your vision and celebrate your creativity!

A FRESH START TO THE SEASON
IT’S FINALLY MAY! With warm, sunny days ahead, it’s the perfect time to get involved with Willowsford Farm. Whether you’re already part of the CSA Farm-ily or brand new to the Farm, the summer season is full of ways to connect with the land, the food grown here, and the people who make it all possible.
The Farm Stand in The Grange, across from Sycamore House, reopens this month for weekly shopping. Stocked with farmfresh produce, eggs, and a variety of locally sourced products, it’s always a great place to discover something new. As the growing season ramps up, you’ll begin to see more and more of what our fields have to offer, from early greens and herbs to the colorful harvests that define summer on the Farm, like tomatoes, eggplant, and squash.
The Boat House Farm Stand, which stayed open through the winter season, will also expand its hours this month. Beginning May 14, it will be open every Thursday through the end of October. Both Farm Stands are conveniently located near the Willowsford pools and make an easy stop when you’re out enjoying the neighborhood. Stop by for a refreshing treat like a Nightingale Ice Cream bar, pick up an ice-cold drink, or grab a healthy snack before heading back out to enjoy the sunshine.
May also marks the start of our Summer CSA, one of the best ways to enjoy everything Willowsford Farm has to offer. A CSA, or Community Supported Agriculture program, connects members directly to the Farm by providing a regular share of the harvest throughout the season. There are still open spots available, and you can sign up anytime. We recommend the Eat in Season share, a farmer-curated box filled with fresh produce grown right here on the Farm. This share is available for pickup or home delivery throughout Willowsford from May 2026 through February 2027. It’s a great value that saves you $200 over the season while also saving you time on trips to the grocery store. Less time shopping means more time enjoying fresh meals and everything summer has to offer. If a weekly box feels like more than your household needs, our Every Other Week option is a great fit for smaller families or anyone easing into cooking with seasonal produce. And of course, don’t forget the eggs. Our happy flock of laying hens produces delicious farmfresh eggs that are a perfect addition to your CSA share. For those with busy or unpredictable schedules, the Custom CSA offers a flexible alternative. This option allows you to build your own share by
ordering exactly what you want through our Online Farm Store. Simply place an order whenever it works for you. There are no subscriptions to pause and no weeks to skip. Whether you are home all summer or traveling in and out, the Custom CSA makes it easy to enjoy fresh food from the Farm on your schedule. Beyond the produce, there are plenty of ways to experience the Farm throughout the season. Our events calendar is the best place to stay up to date on everything happening here, from Farm Stand days and kids’ activities to special visits from our Farm Partners and seasonal events. We recommend checking the calendar at least once a month so you never miss an opportunity to stop by and see what’s new. Summer is one of the most exciting times of the year at Willowsford Farm. The fields are growing, the Farm Stands are bustling, and there are always new flavors to discover. We’re looking forward to seeing you around the Farm this season and celebrating the start of another great CSA year together.
Common Purpose. Uncommon Opportunities.
One of the things that makes Willowsford truly special is something you experience every day, but may not always think about. The meadows, forests, streams, trails, ponds, and Farm that surround our homes are not owned by any one resident. As established in the Community Covenant, they are owned, protected, and cared for by the Willowsford Conservancy, held “in trust” for the benefit of the entire community, now and for generations to come. In fact, “in perpetuity.” That organizational structure is intentional, and it is central to what makes Willowsford unique.
The Conservancy is guided by a sevenmember, volunteer Board of Trustees, six of whom are fellow residents, who serve as stewards of this shared open space. Conservancy Trustees and our professional staff are dedicated to protecting, managing, and enhancing more than 2,600 acres of land that define the character of our community. Together, our residents and Conservancy share a common purpose: to protect and conserve this vital natural resource so that it transcends each one of us in scope and continues beyond our time here.
Our Conservancy is so large that it creates a vast primal setting that surrounds every home with nature. It is that “thing” that all visitors find beautiful but have a hard time identifying when they visit. Willowsford’s expansive natural beauty is the “take-away” that goes home with them. It is the unique thing that makes Willowsford a comforting place each resident can call home.
Through habitat restoration work, regenerative farming, trail maintenance, and year-round programs, the Conservancy team leads ongoing efforts to maintain and improve this landscape. Residents play an important role in that work, whether volunteering at a tree planting, helping on the Farm, supporting habitat restoration, removing invasive species, or simply spending time exploring all that’s here.
Even a few hours of involvement can deepen your understanding of the land and strengthen that connection. By volunteering a few hours throughout the year, we all can assist the staff while learning something more about this place we call home. This is how we do our part to ensure that this resource is
truly maintained “in perpetuity.” That is our common purpose brought to life. But there is an added opportunity bonus: each person here can enjoy the myriad of incredible natural environments and their plant and animal inhabitants every day of every year.
Make 2026 your family’s “year of exploration” here in Willowsford. Get out there. Dive into the Conservancy and find something new every time you go. Something you haven’t seen or heard before. Uncommon opportunities, yours to enjoy, are right here, all around you. How will you know when you find one? Just listen carefully. Someone in the family is going to tell you. It sounds something like “Oh, wow! That is so cool!”. And it is. No screen required.
See you out there.
Charles Graybeal Chair, Conservancy Board of Trustees
Honoring Strength, Inspiring Hope
Through powerful events and unwavering support, the IIIB Foundation brings community, compassion, and recognition to those facing breast cancer.
BY RESIDENT NICOLE HILLYARD
The IIIB Foundation was created from a place of deep love, resilience, and unwavering faith. Founded by Carolyn Cole Rodenburg and her family after her courageous breast cancer diagnosis, the foundation exists to bring hope, support, and tangible assistance to individuals and families navigating their own cancer journeys. Having known their family for more than 30 years, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing not only Carolyn’s strength firsthand, but also the beautiful way her story inspired something much bigger — a mission dedicated to honoring, uplifting, and walking alongside those impacted by breast cancer.
Over the years, the foundation has hosted incredible events that both raise awareness and build community, including the beloved Pink Tie Ball, annual golf tournaments, and other meaningful charity gatherings. We recently attended the Finale of the Pink Tie Ball, and it was a powerful reminder of why this organization matters so much. While it’s always a wonderful reason to dress up and gather together, the heart of the evening goes far beyond the elegance and celebration.
My favorite part of the Pink Tie Ball is the moment they honor each individual who has been diagnosed with breast cancer that year. One by one, their names and stories are recognized — not defined by illness, but by courage, strength, and perseverance. It is an emotional, humbling, and inspiring tribute that reminds everyone in the room why we show up. The IIIB Foundation doesn’t just raise funds; it honors lives, celebrates fighters, remembers loved ones, and creates a community where no one faces cancer alone.
Stroll Willowsford loves highlighting people and organizations that help make a difference in our community. Share your story with us! Email billie.rose@strollmag.com.
WILLOWSFORD NEIGHBORS GIVE BACK
The Foundation has proudly supported The IIIBs FoundationBosom Buddy Baskets organization for years and was happy to celebrate their last Pink Tie Charity Ball. Members of the Foundation (Residents Keith Hample, Chris Garcia, Jeff Bronaugh, Matt Cumello, and Brad Lucas) and their guests sponsored a table and donated funds towards multiple baskets that will be delivered to Pre-Operation Mastectomy Patients. The IIIBs Foundation is an amazing cause that rallies in support of breast cancer patients in Loudoun County and across the globe. This is an important cause for our Foundation members, so we were honored to be in attendance and look forward to supporting The IIIBs in their future events.

ROLL WITH IT
Junior writers try Jiu-Jitsu!
BY RESIDENT AND JUNIOR WRITER SIA PATEL
The Junior Writers’ March meeting took place at Gracie Barra Ashburn, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school, but this month, our gathering wasn’t the usual sit-andwrite format—we got hands-on with JiuJitsu techniques! The instructors shared the fascinating history of the sport: JiuJitsu originated in India, where peaceful monks used it as a form of self-defense. Rather than causing harm, they defended themselves by using an opponent’s strength and momentum against them. The practice spread across Asia to Japan, where samurai adapted it to protect villages. In the modern era, a man named Mitsuyo Maeda brought Jiu-Jitsu to Brazil, teaching the Gracie family and helping the martial art flourish worldwide.
Instructors Dana Bridger and Charles Gomes opened Gracie Barra Ashburn and later expanded with a second location in Leesburg, bringing their passion for JiuJitsu to even more families across Loudoun County.. The school’s name reflects its roots: “Gracie” honors the famous Brazilian
family who popularized Jiu-Jitsu, and “Barra” refers to the Barra da Tijuca district in Rio de Janeiro, where the Gracie family opened their first school in 1986. During our meeting, Dana and Charles led the Junior Writers through warmups and then paired us up to practice
key techniques. We also learned how the Jiu-Jitsu philosophy—using awareness, balance, and technique rather than brute force—applies both on and off the mat. Several Junior Writers were inspired to sign up for classes after the session!
The group had a blast while learning about the sport’s history, practicing moves, and connecting with one another. Gracie Barra Ashburn’s instructors and staff were incredibly welcoming, making the experience both fun and educational.
Our March meeting was a huge success, and it was a memorable way to try something new, get moving, and experience the energy of a real martial arts community firsthand.

GRACIE BARRA ASHBURN KIDS PROGRAM
Gracie Barra Ashburn offers Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes for children and teens ages 3–15 in a supportive, skills-focused environment. Younger students begin with the Little Champions programs (for ages 3–6 and 7–10), while older kids and teens train in age-appropriate classes that mirror adult curriculum with tailored instruction. Through regular practice, kids build focus, discipline, respect, teamwork, and confidence, all while staying active and learning real-world self-defense techniques. Parents are encouraged to participate too—many join classes alongside their children, making it a fun, family-friendly experience for everyone. The nurturing instructors help students grow not just on the mats, but in life as well.
METABOLISM IN MOTION
Tips and insights from a Willowsford resident helping families thrive.
BY WILLOWSFORD STAFF
For Willowsford resident Rachayl Shaffer, the path to launching Renew Metabolic Health was shaped by both professional experience and personal transformation. She and her family—her husband, Jeff, and their two children, Ellie (7) and Bennett (4)—have lived in the Grove for five years after moving from Alexandria during COVID. Like many families in the community, life is full and fast-paced, which makes prioritizing health all the more meaningful. “We’re constantly balancing work, kids, and everything else,” Rachayl says. “It’s so easy for things like nutrition, movement, and sleep to fall to the bottom of the list.”
After more than a decade working in urgent care and pain management, Rachayl’s perspective shifted when
she began working at GameDay Men’s Health, where she focused on hormone optimization and metabolic health. “It’s one of the few areas of medicine where the vast majority of patients genuinely feel better after starting care,” she explains. “I’ve seen improvements in energy, mood, sleep, weight—really, overall quality of life. Some patients even reduce or come off medications entirely.” That experience— and the profound results she witnessed— reinforced her desire to bring this level of care closer to home.
That impact became even more personal at home. After her husband began treatment, the changes were striking—not just physically, but in dayto-day life. “He has more energy, works out regularly, and is more playful and
patient with our kids,” Rachayl shares. “Seeing that ripple effect on our family really reinforced how powerful this kind of care can be.” It was that realization that ultimately inspired her to create Renew Metabolic Health, offering a more personalized, accessible approach to metabolic and hormone care right here in the Willowsford community.
At the core of her practice is a focus on metabolic health—how efficiently the body produces and uses energy. “I like to compare it to the engine of a car,” she says. “When it’s running well, everything feels easier. But when it’s not, you start to notice the effects—fatigue, weight changes, brain fog.” The encouraging part, she notes, is that metabolic health can be improved through a combination of lifestyle changes, medical insight, and, when appropriate, treatments like hormone therapy or GLP-1 medications.
What sets Renew apart is its concierge-style, highly individualized approach. Patients have the time to talk through their goals, review lab work together, and actively participate in building a plan that works for their lifestyle. “Health isn’t one-size-fits-all,” Rachayl says. “The most success comes when patients feel informed, involved, and invested in their care.”
From weight loss and increased energy to building strength and supporting long-term wellness, patients come in with a wide range of goals. Some simply want to feel like themselves again; others are looking to optimize how they feel and perform every day. No matter where they start, Rachayl’s focus remains the same: helping people feel stronger, healthier, and more energized in their everyday lives—right here at home.

MODERA WEALTH
Helping Willowsford Families See the Road Ahead
WRITTEN BY STROLL WILLOWSFORD STAFF WRITER LIA HOBEL
Many families in the Willowsford community face the demands of careers, children’s activities, future ambitions, and the financial decisions that accompany them, which can often feel
overwhelming. For Solon Vlasto, CFP®, Wealth Manager and Principal at Modera Wealth, these challenges are not just concepts—they are part of his lived experience.
Solon and his family have called Willowsford home since 2013, and that shared experience shapes how he approaches his work every day. “Living in Willowsford keeps financial planning very real for me,” he says. “I’ve seen neighbors juggling careers, kids, college savings, businesses, aging parents, all of it.”
That perspective helps Solon meet clients where they are. Many people, he notes, are already doing what they think they should be doing financially. “The real question is, where is it all leading? What are they working toward?” he explains. Solon enjoys guiding families to greater clarity in their finances, helping them clear away uncertainty so they can see their goals more clearly and move forward with confidence.
At Modera Wealth, clarity and trust are foundational. Solon points to one principle that has never changed.
“The biggest constant is that we are fiduciaries,” he says. “That sounds technical, but it simply means the advice has to be in the client’s best interest, period. No product pushing, no hidden agenda.” That commitment drives how Modera works with families— through thoughtful planning, disciplined investing, and long-term relationships.
“That clarity makes decision making much easier for families,” Solon adds.
Financial decisions rarely exist in isolation, and Solon is quick to point out how easily one choice can affect another.
“Money decisions are all connected, whether people realize it or not,” he says.
“How you invest affects your taxes. How you title your assets affects your estate plan. When you claim Social Security affects your retirement income.”
His role, he explains, is to help clients understand those connections and make choices that support the bigger picture. “We aim to make sure all of these decisions work together.” Solon says his role is to guide clients in making these financial decisions by helping them see how each choice affects their overall financial situation.
A Career Built on Long-Term Thinking
Solon’s interest in wealth management started with a fascination for how small decisions compound over time. “Small choices today can create very different outcomes 20 years from now,” he says. Over the years, that insight has shaped how he works with clients. “People don’t just want projections and charts. They want reassurance that they are on track, or a clear plan if they are not.
Who Modera Serves Best
Modera Wealth often works with families and individuals navigating complexity— and that’s exactly where Solon and his team thrive. “We tend to work best with people who have a lot going on,” he says. “Business owners, executives, retirees with multiple accounts, families thinking about legacy planning. Complexity is fine. We actually enjoy it.”
Trust, he emphasizes, is built through transparency and follow-through. “Trust in our client relationships is built from explaining things clearly, being transparent about fees, and doing what we say we’re going to do.”
For Solon, being featured in Stroll feels less like marketing and more like community. “It’s fun, honestly,” he says. “At the end of the day, I am not just an advisor here. I am a neighbor. That makes the conversations more natural and the work much more meaningful.”

DEFYING GRAVITY
With trampolines,
ziplines,
and more, Urban Air is your go-to for all-day excitement!
BY RESIDENT AND JUNIOR WRITER EVELYN ROSE THIS
FEATURE SPONSORED BY LOUDOUN COUNTRY DAY SCHOOL
Urban Air is an amazing indoor entertainment park. There are many locations across the U.S., but the closest one to Willowsford is in Gainesville – it has only been open a few months. It has lots of fun things to do. One of its main attractions is the trampoline area. There are all sorts of trampolines, so you can do anything you could possibly want to do that involves bouncing up high. There are many types of trampolines, such as dodgeball, a slam dunk zone, a pro zone, a runway, and a battle beam.
Urban Air has much more than that, however. For example, it also has a Ninja Warrior obstacle course! There are four levels, and it’s very fun. The whole course is over a huge ball pit, and you can race against your friends, comparing times. Try to be the best! There are also bumper cars, which are absolutely worth the wait. There are normal bumper cars, yes, but there are also cars that can spin upside down
and sideways! There is also a huge zipline on the ceiling that you wear a harness to go on that winds around the building. It’s wonderful, and it makes you feel like you are flying. I always make sure to stop there. There is a ropes course, as well, and multiple places to climb. One of my favorites is called the Stairway to Heaven, which is a spiral of stand-alone columns to climb up and then leap off. There are many rock wall options, too. And if you want something closer to the ground, there is also an amazing laser tag space!
I have a few tips and tricks for going to Urban Air. For one thing, there are different kinds of passes that you can buy when going to Urban Air, and Platinum
gives you access to everything! There are special socks you buy that you have to wear once you’re inside, and you’ll be moving around a lot, so make sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes that can be left behind in a locker or cubby! When going to Urban Air, you should try to go right when they open. Weekdays are the best, because it’s less crowded and the wait times are shorter. Some of the attractions have height restrictions, but don’t worry – there is plenty for everyone to do! For example, there is a big tube playground just for younger kids. And there are also massage chairs - a favorite for parents!
If you want some lunch or dinner while you’re there, there are lots of snacks
you can get, such as pizza or popcorn. For dessert, you can grab some dots ice cream. If you’re looking to rent out a place similar to an amusement park, look no further than Urban Air. They have huge party rooms that you can rent out for any occasion. No matter what, Urban Air has no end to the fun things to do! It is more than your average indoor amusement park – I highly recommend that Willowsford families add it to their to-do list!

What actually makes a home go under contract quickly? Real Estate
Why did 41258 Chatham Green Circle go under contract so quickly when others are sitting?
Michelle:
It wasn’t by accident. We met with the sellers back in early winter and built a strategy around their goals: timing, positioning, and how to create momentum before we even hit the market.
Deborah:
And part of that was really leaning into what makes this home so special being in an award-winning neighborhood.
Michelle:
Exactly. We didn’t just talk about the house: we highlighted what it feels like to live there. The community, the lifestyle, everything that makes that neighborhood so desirable.
Deborah:
So when we launched, everything was intentional.
Michelle:
We invited the neighborhood in with popcorn drop-offs, mailed postcards, and a feature in Stroll so there was already buzz.
Deborah:
And on social, we showcased not just the home, but the lifestyle of the neighborhood.
Michelle:
So buyers walked in already feeling connected.
Deborah:
Then at the open house, we layered in the details: locally homemade cookies from Kaylea, bites from Sense of Thai, fresh flowers…
Michelle:
…and a coloring station for the kids. Because when kids are happy, parents relax and they stay longer.
Deborah:
And the longer they stay, the busier the home feels to prospective buyers. Which creates that subtle sense of demand.
Michelle: You could feel the energy people lingering, connecting…
Deborah:
…and that’s when buyers start thinking, “I don’t want to miss this.”
Michelle:
And that’s how you create competition and a home under contract.

Heroes in a Half Shell Hit the Classroom
Named after the Ninja Turtles, these shelled sidekicks are helping Willard students explore science in a whole new way.

AND JUNIOR WRITERS ANNA ROSE AND PRESLEY MCLAUGHLIN THIS FEATURE SPONSORED BY ADAM HUKE WITH CASSADAY & COMPANY, INC.
The seventh-grade science classes at Willard Middle School are involved in a special partnership this year— read on to hear from two students about this exciting project!
Presley:
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have a classroom pet—or the responsibilities that come with it? This year, each of the seventh-grade science classrooms at Willard has a one-year-old turtle that they will care for all year.
Half of the classes have a turtle species native to Virginia, while the other half have a species native to Australia. Our goal is to monitor how our turtles grow and observe the differences between a native species and an invasive species. My class has a pink-bellied sideneck turtle (the invasive species), and some of the other classes have a western painted turtle. Each turtle is fed one pellet a day, except on Mondays and Fridays, when they get two pellets.
Have you ever heard of the Ninja Turtles? Well, guess what? Our turtles are named after them! Our classroom has a female turtle named Donatella, and other classes have turtles named Leonardo, Raphael, and Michelangelo. I love getting to experience the joy of having a classroom turtle!
Anna:
We have these adorable turtles because we are helping a professor, Todd Rimkus—who taught one of our science teachers at Marymount University— study how native and invasive species grow. The tank our turtle, Donatella, lives in is 12x10x10, but we recently received a much larger one as a donation— shoutout to Carley and the Emilo family in Willowsford for helping out!
Our turtle was originally named Donatello, but my friends and I figured out she was female by looking at her claws and tail. Females have flatter, shorter tails, shorter front claws, and
are often larger than males. Males have longer, thicker tails and longer claws. Raphael has pretty large claws, and Leonardo is smaller—even though their species is naturally smaller than pinkbellied sidenecks. They are all super cute, and we love them!
Donatella has also gotten much braver. She used to hide and be shy, but now she lifts her head and interacts with us.
We all love these awesome new additions to our class—they make science so much more fun!

REMI THE RASCAL RULES
Socks beware—this lovable troublemaker keeps her family smiling with her playful antics.
With her beautiful eyes and loving energy, it’s impossible to feel sad or angry when you see Remi! She was adopted from Wolf Trap Animal Rescue in Fairfax, Virginia. Her family chose to adopt a dog instead of buying one from a breeder, because they previously had a great experience with a rescue dog, who sadly passed away three years ago at the age of thirteen. Remi is a mischievous six-month-old Catahoula Leopard Dog who loves to cause harmless trouble! She is very fond of jumping onto the Meikle family’s couch, even though she’s not allowed on it. The curious pup loves to explore the house and tries to wander into nooks and crannies where she is not allowed.
Remi’s favorite toys are socks. Whether they’re clean, smelly, dirty, itchy, or soft, Remi has an attachment to them. In addition to her admiration for socks, Remi’s other favorite toy is an adorable pink bear named “Lovey Bear,” as Ella, the Meikle’s seven-yearold daughter, affectionately calls it.

Ella’s Dad and brother, Colton, told a funny story about Remi. The family was getting their carpets cleaned after Remi’s potty training had been completed, so all their furniture was pressed up against their counter. They were baking banana bread and there were all sorts of ingredients on the counter. Remi climbed up onto the furniture and then proceeded to climb onto the kitchen counter and eat two whole raw eggs – shells and all! Whether it’s playing with all the eager kids at the bus stop or jumping playfully when she sees you during a long walk, everyone in the community enjoys Remi’s sweet and energetic personality and we’re so grateful that she’s part of our neighborhood!

More Than a Style A Personalized Experience
Skylines, Sand, and Spectacle
From desert thrills to dessert delights, Dubai serves up adventure with a sweet side.
BY RESIDENT AND JUNIOR
Dubai is often described as a city of the future, but experiencing it in person was a completely different experience. My recent trip to Dubai was not just a thrilling tour but a journey into innovation and culture, all in one phenomenal city.
One of our first stops was the Dubai Frame, a shiny, golden rectangle that overlooks the city. Standing inside the massive frame, I could see on one side the historic neighborhoods from the original city, and on the other, the modern skyline filled with glass towers and futuristic buildings.
No visit to Dubai would be complete without seeing the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. From the top, the view was magical, but being at its base was even more stunning; each night, the entire skyscraper lit up in color with a fountain show just behind the building. As I rode the elevator to the observation deck, the city beneath me started to unfold, with highways, skyscrapers, and the desert stretching far beyond. Learning about the construction of the tower was intriguing in itself, a reminder of how the sky is quite literally the limit.
While Dubai is known for its modern architecture, one of the most unforgettable moments of the trip came from the desert. Dune buggy riding was an adrenaline-filled experience unlike anything I had done before. We were able to race across dunes on ATVs, feeling the sudden drops and turns. As the sun began to set, we were taken to a cultural show and an authentic dinner that allowed us to feel more connected to Dubai.
Another highlight of the trip was visiting the Museum of the Future, a place that felt less like a museum and more like
EDITOR KIAAN SARAIYA THIS FEATURE SPONSORED BY BA EXTERIORS
time travel. The building itself, covered in Arabic calligraphy, immediately caught my eye. The museum showed the future of artificial intelligence, the environment, space exploration, and human health. MOFT also lets visitors experience new innovations firsthand, encouraging them to think about the role technology will play in shaping our lives.
Of course, no travel experience is complete without food, and Dubai’s culinary scene was as diverse as the city itself. From traditional Middle Eastern dishes to international cuisine, the food showed how diverse the city really is. My absolute favorite restaurant was actually a cafe inspired by modern music and culture. It was called Love Vibe Cafe, and the menu featured unlimited breakfast menus, with my favorite being a decadent peanut butter pancake soaked in chocolate fudge and topped with crushed nuts. The cafe had unique drinks as well, many being named after famous artists and songs, with my favorite being the ube iced coffee.
Another amazing restaurant we visited was none other than Pai Thai, located at the Jumeirah Al Qasr resort. Pai Thai specializes in authentic Thai cuisine, with dishes that have bold flavors and beautiful presentation. Some of my favorite dishes included their red curry and pad thai noodles, but every dish felt carefully crafted and created an unforgettable experience.
Our final visit was the gold and spice souk walk, where visitors stroll through narrow alleyways lined with shimmering gold jewelry and towering sacks of colored spices. The air is filled with the scent of saffron, cardamom, and dried rose petals, and shopkeepers offer all sorts of unique products. Every step felt like a living museum of Dubai’s culture.
As I reflect on the trip, I realize that Dubai isn’t just a place you visit; it sets a golden standard for the future. And long after leaving, those impressions stay with you, reminding you that the future isn’t something far away, it’s being built right now.

DRYER VENT WIZARD
OF NORTHERN VIRGINIA
The underestimated system of a home
WRITTEN BY STROLL WILLOWSFORD STAFF WRITER LIA HOBEL
Most homeowners don’t give much thought to their dryer vent—until something goes wrong. According to Chris Durbin, owner of Dryer Vent Wizard of Northern Virginia, the overlooked duct running from your dryer to the outside is one of the most important safety and efficiency systems in your home.
“Many homeowners don’t think about their dryer vent until something goes wrong,” Durbin says. And when they do call, the symptoms are usually familiar: clothes taking two or three cycles to dry, a laundry room that feels unusually hot, or the realization that the vent hasn’t been cleaned in years—sometimes ever. “What surprises people is that all three of those situations can point to the same underlying problem: a vent that’s restricted, damaged, or improperly installed.”
Lint buildup is the most obvious culprit, but it’s far from the only one. Durbin and his technicians regularly find crushed or kinked flex duct behind dryers, bird nests blocking exterior vent caps, and vent systems that were never installed to code. “Newer homes aren’t immune,” Durbin notes. “In fact, some of the worst installations I’ve seen were in houses less than ten years old.”
Durbin points to the recent dryer fire aboard the USS Gerald R. Ford as a reminder that no structure is exempt. “If it can happen on a naval vessel with trained crew and maintenance protocols, it can absolutely happen in a suburban home where the dryer vent hasn’t been touched in three years.”
One of the clearest indicators of a clogged dryer vent is longer-than-normal
drying time. “If a single load is consistently taking 45 minutes to an hour—or you’re running two cycles just to get clothes dry— your vent is trying to tell you something,” Durbin explains. A properly functioning dryer with good airflow should dry a standard load in 30 to 40 minutes.
Other warning signs are easier to miss. A mildew smell on clothes fresh out of the dryer is often blamed on the washing machine, but Durbin says restricted airflow is frequently the real cause. LG dryers may display “D80” or “D90” error codes when vents are severely blocked. “These aren’t suggestions—they’re the dryer telling you it’s in distress,” Durbin says.
Some of the most concerning service calls aren’t dramatic at all. “I think of it like a clogged artery,” Durbin says. “Nobody wakes up one day with a fully blocked artery. It narrows gradually, over years, and the body compensates—until it can’t.”
Dryer vents behave the same way. Lint accumulates gradually, airflow drops, and homeowners adapt without realizing how serious the issue has become. Durbin recalls a homeowner who called because her dryer “just wasn’t performing like it used to.” Airflow testing revealed the vent was nearly completely blocked. “She’d been compensating for it so gradually she didn’t even realize how bad it had gotten.”
Restricted airflow wastes energy and shortens the life of the dryer. “A dryer that should last 15 years might give out in eight if it’s been struggling against a blocked vent the whole time,” Durbin explains.
The safety risks are even more serious. Lint is highly flammable, and when it can’t exit the system, it can overheat inside the duct. “At that point, you don’t have a maintenance problem anymore,” Durbin says. “You have a fire.”
Modern home layouts make maintenance more challenging, with longer vent runs and more bends. “The physics fluid mechanics of moving lintladen air through 20 or 30 feet of duct with multiple turns is a very different challenge than a six-foot run out the back of a house,” Durbin says.
As a result, Durbin recommends professional dryer vent cleaning at least every one or two years for most households. Insurance companies often require multiunit buildings, such as condominium properties to be cleaned every 18 to 24 months. “That standard exists because the data supports it.”
After nearly 30 years as a government contractor, Durbin brought that same straight-talk approach to his dryer vent business.. “Professionalism isn’t optional—it’s the baseline,” he says. Technicians explain findings, show airflow readings, and avoid unnecessary upsells. “An informed customer makes better decisions—and they tend to become long-term customers because they trust you.”
After nearly 30 years as a government contractor, Durbin built his business around transparency. “Professionalism isn’t optional—it’s the baseline,” he says. Technicians explain findings, show airflow readings, and avoid unnecessary upsells. “An informed customer makes better decisions—and they tend to become longterm customers because they trust you.”
Durbin says Willowsford homeowners value proper maintenance. “Most homeowners think about their HVAC, their gutters, their roof,” he says. “Very few think about the duct running from their dryer to the outside world— until something goes wrong.”
A clean, properly installed dryer vent improves performance, extends appliance life, and reduces fire risk. Pest-resistant vent caps also help keep birds and animals from nesting in the spring.
“We’re a local business,” Durbin adds. “When a Willowsford homeowner calls, they’re taken care of right away and connected to our team. That level of service matters to me—and I believe it matters to this community too.” Give yourself peace of mind by creating a safer home by scheduling a professional dryer inspection with Dryer Vent Wizard.

For Willowsford resident and fitness enthusiast, Allan Nguyen, opening CycleBar Ashburn was a natural extension of a lifelong love for cycling — one he shares with his wife, Theresa, who is also involved in the business.. “I started cycling outdoors in college and loved the challenge and camaraderie of group rides,” he shares. “During the winters, I’d ride on a trainer in my basement, but it got boring fast. I wanted a place where people could ride together, motivated by music, energy, and community.” That vision led him and Theresa to CycleBar, a concept that blends fitness, music, and connection—and two years later, he opened the Ashburn studio.
What sets CycleBar apart, he explains, is its “soft clubbing” atmosphere. Riders experience a high-energy, 45-minute workout set to curated playlists in a theater-like studio. “It’s a party on a bike,” he says.
“Our instructors program every class to motivate when you need a push and allow recovery when you’ve reached your limit. We also host themed rides like ‘Miami vs. Ibiza’ and even DJ rides for a full club vibe.”
CycleBar’s classes are designed for all fitness levels. From the flagship Classic ride, which blends strength, endurance, and choreography, to Empower for outdoor cycling enthusiasts or Strength classes using resistance bands, everyone is encouraged to go at their own pace. “Fitness is a journey,” he says. “Even the most seasoned riders have off days, and that’s okay. There’s truly something for everyone.”
Beyond exercise, the studio has become a hub for community. “If you watch riders before class, you’ll see new friendships forming—moms realizing their kids go to the same preschool, seasoned riders cheering on newcomers,” he notes. CycleBar

Thoughtful design and seamless collaboration transform The Meads’ outdoor space into a personal sanctuary in the Grove.
BY STROLL WILLOWSFORD STAFF
TUCKED INTO THE GROVE VILLAGE, Meads have transformed their backyard into a true extension of their home— one that feels equal parts retreat and gathering place. After five years in their Willowsford home, Andrew and Maria set out to reimagine their outdoor space with a clear goal in mind: create somewhere their family could relax, entertain, and enjoy time together without ever feeling the need to leave.
While the pool is certainly a standout, it’s not the centerpiece. Instead, what makes this space so special is how seamlessly every element works together. From the thoughtfully designed landscaping to the pavilion and dedicated areas for dining and serving, the entire backyard feels intentional—balancing beauty with everyday functionality. “No single feature takes center stage,” they share. “It all just flows.”
To bring their vision to life, The Meads partnered with Pristine Acres, a trusted Stroll sponsor known for its craftsmanship and attention to detail. While Andrew and Maria had a strong

sense of the overall look and feel they wanted, the Pristine team helped refine the design, offering creative ideas and practical insights that elevated the final result beyond expectations. The process itself was just as meaningful as the outcome. “They made everything seamless and collaborative,” Maria says. “We were involved every step of the way, but never felt overwhelmed.”
One of the most impressive aspects of the project is how it maximizes a relatively limited footprint. Through smart design and careful planning, the space feels far more expansive than it actually is—proof that thoughtful execution can make all the difference.
Completed all at once, the backyard now serves as a peaceful, personal sanctuary for the family, while also offering the perfect setting to host friends and neighbors. And if they had the chance to do it all again? They wouldn’t change a thing. Their advice for others considering a home project is simple but impactful: don’t cut corners. “It’s worth investing in a quality partner who can guide you and make sure the end result is something you’ll love for years to come.”
For The Meads, that investment has paid off in the best way—creating a space that feels just right, every single day.
