Seasons of Love

we share as a community.
“Love actually is all around.”

Hello, Willowsford Community Residents,

February has a way of slowing us down just enough to notice the small things—the quiet acts of kindness, the familiar faces, and the connections that make this community feel like home. Love this time of year isn’t only about grand gestures or special occasions; it’s found in everyday moments. A friendly wave on

a chilly walk, a neighbor checking in, or a simple conversation that turns into something more meaningful.

As you flip through this month’s issue of Stroll Willowsford, I hope you see that same spirit reflected in these pages. The heart of Willowsford lives in the people who call it home—neighbors supporting neighbors, friendships forming organically, and families building lives rooted in connection. These stories remind us that community is something we nurture together, day by day.

I’m also incredibly grateful for our Preferred Partners, whose support makes this publication possible. These trusted local businesses don’t just advertise here—they invest in the community we all value. When you have the opportunity, I hope you’ll consider them for your needs and let them know you saw them in Stroll and appreciate their support of Willowsford.

As we celebrate February, my wish is that we continue to notice—and appreciate—the many forms of love around us: romantic, family, friendship, and the simple neighborly kindness that makes Willowsford such a special place to live.

Best, Traci

Stroll Willowsford | Board Update

Dear Willowsford Residents,

Welcome to February! As you know by now, we have been actively working to replace our Community Manager. After a professional recruitment search and extensive interviews conducted over the past several months, your Board of Directors is pleased to announce the selection of our new Community Manager, Suzie Popielec, CMCA, AMS, PCAM.

Hailing from Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Suzie brings a diverse and well-rounded background that includes an early career in Communications and Marketing, more than twenty years as a former Marine Corps spouse, and extensive philanthropic volunteer service. She is a highly credentialed Community Association Manager with over a decade of experience across all facets of community leadership, including risk management, compliance, lifestyle programming, contract negotiation, capital improvement projects, communications, and facilities operations.

Suzie joins us from a large-scale, age-qualified community in New Kent, Virginia, and has held onsite management roles at a wide range of properties, including a mixed-use community of 14,000 residents, a twelve-story high-rise, a private gated community, and an amenity-rich community under development.

The Willowsford Board and Staff welcomed Suzie during the week of January 26, 2026. The Board is also planning an Open House in early February to formally introduce her to the community. Please watch for additional details in upcoming Weekly messages and eblasts.

We extend Suzie a warm welcome to Willowsford and look forward to a positive and productive 2026!

As a reminder, the Board has been working on potential plans and proposals for renovations and capital improvements, and want to hear from you. One of the mechanisms will be a Resident Survey released to gather your thoughts on whether and what the community supports the scope and financial investment such an endeavor would require. Your voice will be important in determining how and whether we bring these projects to life.

Thank you for your continued engagement, insight, and enthusiasm for keeping Willowsford a vibrant, connected, and forward-looking community!

Your Board of Directors

Farm’s Flower CSA

Spring is right around the corner, invoking thoughts of warmer days, birdsong and fresh flowers! Here at Willowsford Farm, we grow a relatively small number of flowers to encourage bees and other pollinators, but these aren’t the blooms that make up our Flower CSA share. Since 2021, we’ve been partnered with Bee’s Wing Farm, a local flower farm that prioritizes gentle methods. Chelsea, the owner of Bee’s Wing, continues her commitment to not use synthetic pesticides and herbicides year after year. In addition to the beautiful bouquets for our Flower CSA, she is busy year-round with farmers’ markets and events. Her wedding arrangements are simply dreamy and sustainable! In her floral design work, she has eliminated toxic floral foam, promoted the reusing of vessels and containers, composted any waste, and packages her work with biodegradable materials.

We’re thankful for our partnership with Bee’s Wing Farm; her lovely blooms have been a hit at the Farm Stand and with our CSA members for years. Highlights include sunflower-centered bunches in the peak of summer and bouquets overflowing with dahlias in the early fall. Each bouquet is unique and bursting with a variety of colors and textures, all grown locally in White Post, Virginia. Feedback from our annual CSA survey often highlights the longevity of the flowers, with many respondents sharing that each bouquet maintains beauty and freshness for a week or more. If you are interested in enjoying these fresh bouquets, the 2026 Flower CSA will begin in mid-May and run through October. We have options for pick up and home delivery, and even offer single bouquets a la carte! A Flower CSA would make a great gift for Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day or a birthday, with a bouquet of fresh flowers delivered for

twenty weeks from mid-May through October. If you have additional questions about our Flower CSA, or any of the 2026 CSA programs, please reach out to us via email at farm@willowsfordfarm.com.

Chelsea is a true flower artist, and we’ve included some of our favorite bouquets from the past few years for you to enjoy! While the photos can only showcase so much, we hope the spring vibes have you looking forward to May, where you can enjoy them in person at both of our Farm Stands and in your own home.

THE FIRST SIGNS OF SPRING IN OUR FORESTS

When you think of the first signs of spring, you might picture tree buds or early wildflowers. Maybe it is the returning migratory birds, like the old proverb that says “Bluebirds are a sign of spring; warm weather and gentle south breezes they bring.” But one of the earliest signs of spring is already stirring in the forest long before most plants wake up. As the snow melts and vernal pools fill, life in the forest wakes up.

Vernal pools are temporary pools that form in low spots where hard bedrock or dense clay sits just below the surface. Rain and melting snow collect in these depressions, creating isolated pockets of water. These pools are not connected to streams or larger ponds, and many dry out completely by summer (hence the name “vernal” which comes from the latin word for “spring”). This seasonal rhythm creates a rare fish-free habitat which forms a temporary safe haven for our local amphibians as they enter their breeding season.

One amphibian commonly found in Willowsford is the Wood Frog (Lithobates sylvaticus ). They are among our earliest risers, emerging from winter shelter during the first warm rains of the year when temperatures climb into the 40s and 50s. Remarkably, Wood Frogs can survive being partially frozen by increasing glucose in their blood, which protects their cells from ice damage. They are considered an obligate vernal pool species because they rely on these fish-free waters to lay their eggs. In a stream or river, nearly all their eggs would be eaten by fish and other predators. Wood Frogs lay their eggs in large gelatinous “egg masses.” These masses start small but swell as they absorb water, creating a protective cushion as the embryos develop.

While we haven’t yet been lucky enough to spot these in Willowsford’s pools (yet! ), other vernal pool inhabitants in our region include salamander species, such as Spotted salamanders (Ambystoma maculatum) and Eastern newts (Notophthalmus viridescens ). Spotted salamanders often migrate en masse on the first warm, rainy nights, gathering at vernal pools to court and lay their own clusters of eggs in egg masses similar to those of a wood frog. Eastern Newts use the calm, protected waters as nurseries where larvae can grow without the threat of predatory fish. Together, these amphibians highlight just how vital vernal pools are as seasonal refuges for wildlife.

While you are quietly visiting a vernal pool at dusk, keep an ear out for the American Woodcock (Scolopax mino r). This forest-dwelling shorebird, sometimes referred to as a “timberdoodle “ is one of our most charming and unique native birds. Woodcocks spend much of their time hidden in young forest understory, but in late winter and early spring, the males begin their remarkable mating displays. You might first hear their distinctive “peent “ call from the ground. If you wait a little longer, the male may even launch into the sky in wide spirals before diving back down in a fluttering dance meant to impress nearby females. Learn more about the Woodcock, hear its call, and see videos of its unique dances at the QR code on this page.

As winter loosens its grip, these small but bustling pockets of life remind us that spring has a quiet start. Vernal pools teeming with life and the arrival of woodcocks offer a glimpse into the forest as it reawakens for the year ahead. Whether you venture out at dusk to listen for a woodcock’s “peent” or pause beside a still pool to watch for the first ripples of returning wildlife, these early signs of spring provide us to slow down, look closely, and appreciate the living landscape all around us through all of its seasons.

Saddled with Purpose

Where hope takes the reins for a mission built on care

There is a very special place right down the street from Willowsford that is really making a difference in 185 lives every week. Some of our neighbors are already volunteering their time or supporting the organization financially. It’s called Sprout Therapeutic Riding and Education Center.

The quiet leader behind the fantastic facility is Brooke Waldron, Executive Director. Her family purchased the farm in 2009. They built the farm and barns from the ground up. Brooke is using her animal science education every day to redefine growth through equine connections.

In a world where limitations and restrictions abound, Sprout says, “We are the believers. We are the do-ers.

We are the Possibilitarians!” Sprout Center is dedicated to changing lives through equine-supported activities and therapies. Sprout provides hope, healing, empowerment, and community through partnerships with horses.

Sprout has six different programs that work to bring hope, healing, empowerment, and community to people of all abilities.

Adaptive riding:

The team at Sprout works to understand what barriers stop people from riding and solve the problem by providing individualized accommodations and tailored riding skill instruction that supports life goals.

Adaptive carriage driving: Offers a unique horsemanship and movement experience as an alternative to riding.

Equine Supported Therapy: Combines clinical-based therapy with the movement of a horse to support functional physical improvement.

Equine supported learning: A hands-on educational model that uses the interactions and relationships between horses and humans in an environment of learning and self-discovery.

Residents Michelle and Hanna Stolle participate in the 2024 Fun Run.
Lucky the horse is always the star of the show at the annual Sprout 5K/1K Fun Run!

with essential community both in and out of the barn.

Competition:

Sprout supports riders throughout their continuum of growth from therapy, to recreation to competition through the Interscholastic Equestrian Association,

There are 24 horses on the farm with riders ranging 18 months to 85 with 53 different disabilities. Target Hits the Bullseye

Big opening, bigger convenience ahead!

BY RESIDENT AND JUNIOR WRITER SYDNEY SHAUGHNESSY, THIS FEATURE SPONSORED BY CARDINAL PLUMBING HEATING & AIR

In Arcola Center (next to Dulles Landing), a new Target has recently opened, with the soft opening on the 8th of October & the grand official opening on 12th of October. The store is open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weekends. This Target has a special expanded grocery section and the latest store design! This Target was the largest opening for the company nationally this year!

The Target features a drive-up order system with about 22 parking spots for easy pick up. The interior of the store was very clean, and an open air feeling with its large size and tall ceilings. Inside there is a Starbucks and a CVS Pharmacy. Starbucks had fast service and was quite fresh. All throughout the Target you can see art on the walls, and nice décor around the store.

The general shopping experience was nice as well. This Target has an expanded grocery section, so there was a larger variety of food choices compared to our other local locations. It was practically a full grocery store with fresh produce, meats, dairy, etc. The skincare section was also very clean and had a large selection of products you can choose from. The women’s clothing section had 8 dressing rooms so there was no waiting time.

Overall, the new Target was a nice experience and very conveniently located to the Willowsford villages. I look forward to shopping there more often!

Falling for the Slopes

Ski days near Willowsford

HI NEIGHBORS! Today, I’m here to tell you about two ski resorts near Willowsford, which are Massanutten Resort in Virginia and Whitetail Resort in Pennsylvania.

Let’s get started with Massanutten. Because it was the first out of two ski resorts I’ve ever been to, and I would rate it a 9 out of 10, because it was fun, but I couldn’t stop falling on the long slope I did. This was my first ever skiing experience, and I was amazed at how quickly I learned it from my mom, who, by the way, is also not very expert at it either. That way, we saved up to $200 on ski lessons.

One trip costs roughly $150 per person with lift tickets and rentals. You can also take advantage of their weekend/ student discounts.

And now for Whitetail Resort in Pennsylvania. This one is very similar, with minor differences. When I entered, it was the same thing as the other one I got my gear and started to practice on the bunny slope (which is the first level slope in skiing, and the steepest and hardest slopes are called black diamonds) to see if I remembered how to do it. And then I went to a bigger slope, but it wasn’t that big, and the difference in this one is that it at the end of it there was a fence to stop you. When I was done, I went to the bigger slope, which was the same one as in Massanutten, which I couldn’t do without falling, but this time on my first or second attempt, I did it. I kept doing it, and then we took a break for lunch. Whitetail had a bigger restaurant and many dine-in options. They also had a hot chocolate bar outside.

In terms of cost, Massanutten has better pricing on lift tickets and rentals, especially for weekdays. Both ski resorts are at a reasonable distance from Willowsford, so you could make a day trip out of it easily. There are lodges in both ski areas, so you can take a break during your trip. I highly recommend visiting these resorts as a fun winter activity.

MANOR WORKS PAINTING

Where craftsmanship meets community

In the heart of the Willowsford community, there’s a name that’s become synonymous with trust, quality, and a genuine neighborly spirit: Manor Works Painting. Lucia and Victor Tirondola have transformed their family-owned business from a small local operation into a go-to resource for homeowners who want more than just a fresh coat of paint—they want a partner who cares about their home as much as they do. From the very first consultation to the final brushstroke, Manor Works is all about building relationships and delivering excellence.

“Our painters and carpenters are fulltime, in-house professionals who have been with us for years. Because we don’t subcontract, every person entering a client’s home is someone we trust, have trained, and deeply value.”

This commitment to an in-house team means clients get consistency, reliability,

and a personal touch on every project. The company’s approach is rooted in clear communication and respect, starting with a detailed consultation and daily updates from project managers. As they put it, “Our project managers keep clients informed daily so there are never surprises.

But Manor Works isn’t just about painting. Their services go beyond the brush, offering carpentry, wood-rot repair, custom trim, and even complimentary color consultations. As they explain: “We want every project to feel seamless and every client to feel cared for. That’s why Manor Works Painting offers more than ‘just paint.’ Whether repairing wood rot, installing custom trim, or enhancing an interior with beautiful molding, our carpentry team elevates both the look and longevity of your home. Combining carpentry with painting ensures the finished product is not only beautiful but structurally sound.”

Choosing colors can be overwhelming, but Manor Works aims to make it easy and enjoyable. “Our goal is to help every client create a home that feels like a sanctuary, with color that truly reflects their personality.”

During the winter, Manor Works brings holiday cheer with professional Christmas décor services, handling everything from design and installation to takedown and storage. They understand how busy the season can be and offer to “help you so you can truly enjoy the holidays.”

The company’s philosophy is shaped by personal experience. Victor’s journey began in the painting industry, learning that “this business is ultimately about relationships, not transactions.” Over the years, Manor Works has been there for clients through every milestone, building trust and continuity. “Helping families reclaim their time so they can focus on what they love is incredibly meaningful, and it’s why we approach every project with heart and purpose.”

For homeowners seeking longterm care, Manor Works offers a loyalty program and honest guidance. “Instead of pushing services, we focus on education. Victor shares what is necessary now and what can wait, allowing clients to prioritize responsibly.” Trust is built through “honesty, consistency, and care and that begins the moment we meet a client, not when the job begins.”

Manor Works also cherishes its connection to the Willowsford community. “Willowsford homeowners value quality, craftsmanship, and lasting relationships. This aligns perfectly with our mission at Manor Works. It truly is a wonderful place to work and to build meaningful connections.”

At Manor Works Painting, the difference is in the details—and the people. With a team that feels like family, a philosophy rooted in honesty and education, and a genuine love for the community, Manor Works isn’t just painting houses; they’re helping neighbors create homes that last. Whether you’re dreaming of a new color palette, restoring woodwork, or decking the halls for the holidays, Manor Works brings skill, heart, and a personal touch to every project.

PAINTING WITH PURPOSE: EVERY JOB GIVES BACK.

At Manor Works, every residential painting project represents more than just a finished wall or restored surface. As a contractor committed to community, we dedicate a percentage of profits from each home project to Mishi’s Home. This foundation provides safe housing and support for women rebuilding their lives. This contribution ensures that Michelle (Mishi) Tompkins’ legacy lives on, transforming homes into places of healing, stability, and renewed possibility. By choosing Manor Works, homeowners receive high-quality craftsmanship while also contributing to the creation of brighter futures and helping domestic violence survivors begin again.

Christmas Décor by Manor Works Painting is a full-service holiday light installer and professional holiday decorator.

Making Beauty Personal

FINDING OUR FLOW

Yoga made approachable

Have you ever wanted to try yoga in a 90-degree room? No? Well, did you know that it’s good for flexibility? We learned about this and more in our November Junior Writer meeting. (Not in the 90-degree room, thankfully.) We got to talk to Ms. Jenny Moore, the owner of Yoga Shala, about yoga, and do a bit too. We practiced lots of fun things, from poses to just lying on the floor, deeply breathing. We got to ask her some questions about what drew her to yoga and why she started the business. We had so much fun, and we can’t wait to sign up for classes. We definitely recommend it!

How did you first become interested in yoga?

I was introduced to yoga through a gym that I worked out at. I practiced yoga as a way of recovery from running and lifting weights. I started to notice that not only did I feel good physically, I was also experiencing mental health benefits, calm and clear thinking, as well as better sleep and more energy. These aspects really interested me, and I decided to study yoga and become a teacher!

How long have you owned Yoga Shala?

I have owned Yoga Shala for 2 years. Prior to that, I taught here in Loudoun County for several years at a couple of local studios.

KIDS & TEENS YOGA AT YOGA SHALA

Yoga Shala offers an after-school Kids & Teens Yoga Program focused on strength, flexibility, focus, and mindfulness.

Classes follow the LCPS school calendar (September–June) and meet Mondays from 6–7 p.m., observing school breaks and federal holidays.

Program pricing is $990 for the full year or $120 per month. Willowsford neighborhood pricing is available, with sibling and family discounts. A waitlist is in effect for the 2026–2027 school year.

For more information, families may contact the studio directly.

What makes Yoga Shala unique?

Yoga Shala is unique because we make it a point to be inviting to all, especially those who are more vulnerable and feel intimidated trying something new. The majority of our teaching staff is trauma-informed and incorporates these practices into their teaching, and this makes Yoga Shala a very safe space. We also believe in continuing our education. Our members often progress in their practice by participating in one of our Yoga Alliance-accredited Teacher Trainings and become teachers, and from there, they are always looking to learn more and share more. We are as much of a yoga studio with great classes as we are a yoga school with workshops, trainings, and advanced courses for experienced teachers.

What ages do you teach?

We have no limits on the ages we teach! We have had children as young as 2 participate in classes, although they typically don’t last an entire one-hour class! Typically, we have school-aged children participate in classes with their parents all the way up to our growing 55 and 65+ community! As of right now, our oldest member is an 81-year-old Veteran of the Vietnam War! With several Lead Teachers on staff, with well over 500 hours of training specific to yoga, we approach teaching with a can-do, let’s figure it out approach. We incorporate adaptive practices as needed and teach a complete practice for mind, body, and soul.

Anything else you’d like to add before we wrap up?

Yoga Shala supports the whole family, whatever family means to you. We are experienced in handling really big life moments and challenges. As people join our yoga community and connect with one another, we share life stories, the gloriously good things as well as the really hard things, and through it all, we grow stronger and more connected. No one is ever alone.

RV-olutionary Road Trip

When the journey steals the show

We were heading to Ohio for a family reunion — an eight-hour trip for a quick weekend getaway. Since it was being held on campgrounds, we knew we’d need a place to sleep. Our oldest daughter, half-joking, suggested we rent an RV. The idea stuck.

Before we knew it, we were hitting the road in a 30’ RV, complete with cozy beds, a kitchen, and the freedom to stretch out, roam, or even sneak in a nap during the drive. It turned what could have been a long, tiring haul into part of the adventure itself.

Now I think we’ve spoiled ourselves — and the kids — for any future road trips. Once you’ve traveled this comfortably, it’s hard to go back!

Sisters that Sell Real Estate

What Does a Front Porch Say About a Neighborhood?

Michelle: In luxury neighborhoods, first impressions are subtle but powerful, and few elements set the tone like the front porch.

Deborah: Today we’re talking about something that quietly carries a lot of influence in these communities: the front porch.

Michelle: At this level, buyers already expect the basics. Square footage, finishes, and price point are assumed.

Deborah: What makes Willowsford so special is how prevalent front porches are throughout the community.

Michelle: You notice it immediately. These porches are designed to be used, not just admired.

Deborah: They create a sense of connection, intention, and permanence before you even step inside a home.

Michelle: In Willowsford, the porch is part of the lifestyle. It signals a community built for people who value being outside, knowing their neighbors, and truly living in their homes.

Deborah: A well-styled porch with scaled seating, thoughtful planters, subtle seasonal touches, and warm lighting signals care and discernment.

Michelle: When a porch is neglected or overdone, buyers feel hesitation, even if they can’t explain why.

Deborah: That’s where Radcliffe House Designs stands out. Porch styling is treated as an extension of the home’s architecture, not an afterthought.

Michelle: Every choice feels refined, natural, and like it has always belonged, allowing homeowners to enjoy a beautifully curated porch without lifting a finger.

Deborah: Buyers don’t just evaluate homes; they evaluate neighborhoods.

Michelle: After touring several homes, interiors blur, but buyers remember how a street made them feel.

Deborah: Porches play a huge role in that memory, signaling pride and long-term investment.

Michelle: In communities like Willowsford, the porch becomes a quiet ambassador of quality and confidence and when it’s time to sell, The Pearl Team ensures that presentation translates into top-dollar results.

MEET THE PARRISH FAMILY

BUILDING COMMUNITY THROUGH TEACHING AND TEAMWORK

The Parrish family lives by a simple motto: “Be Kind. Be Brave. Be Smart.” Every morning before school, Nora and Rocky share these words with their nine-year-old twin daughters, Wren and Londyn, a daily reminder of the values they hope to instill.

Rocky and Nora met through mutual friends while finishing college—he was completing his master’s degree at the University of Louisville, and she was wrapping up her undergraduate studies at Virginia Tech. Today, both have built meaningful careers in education. Rocky teaches PE in D.C. Public Schools, and Nora is a beloved 3rd grade teacher at Hovatter Elementary.

“It’s important to both of us that we contribute to the greater good,” Nora says. “Our profession allows us to do just that.” Their commitment to service extends beyond the classroom. Rocky also coaches basketball at St. Paul VI High School,

while Nora takes pride in supporting local families and being “Mrs. Parrish” to the many Willowsford kids she sees at school.

Rocky and Nora Parrish have lived an active and busy life in the Grove for the past four years with their twin daughters and one very beloved Husky. Their 12-year-old Siberian Husky, Stark, is named after a character from one of their favorite shows, Game of Thrones. “He is 12 years old but still acts like a puppy,” Nora says. “He’s known as the Million Dollar Dog because he was tragically hit by a car six years ago but survived after months of intensive care and incredible strength. You’d never know today that he was so close to losing a leg. He’s a very special part of our family.”

At home, life revolves around the twins’ energetic schedules. Wren is determined, goal-oriented, sensitive, and witty. She swims competitively with NCAP and plays lacrosse for Dulles South. Londyn shares that same determination and drive, paired with a deeply empathetic and spirited personality. She competes on the gymnastics team at Chantilly Academy and loves performing in her school’s musicals. Both girls have been on the Willowsford South swim team for the past three summers and love spending long days at the Lodge pool, one of their favorite parts of living in the community.

When the Parrish family finds a rare free weekend, they often head to Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina, where Rocky’s parents now live. They’ve also been fortunate to travel to incredible places like London and Honolulu through the St. Paul VI basketball program.

“We are a very busy family, always running around between different activities and social events,” Nora says with a laugh. “Even though we never sit down, we love our active life.”

As 2026 begins, many of us are looking for ways to put our health and well-being at the top of the list. For those in South Riding, Burn Boot Camp—co-owned by Rebecca Metzger and her husband Jon, has become a go-to spot for building strength, confidence, and community.

“We’re focusing on helping members stay motivated as the year gets underway,” Rebecca shares. “Burn Boot

Camp workouts are built for every fitness level and can be scaled up or down, ensuring our strength and conditioning sessions challenge you no matter where you are in your journey. As your body gets stronger, you’ll also develop the mental toughness, discipline, and confidence that drive real transformation.”

Rebecca emphasizes the personalized approach at Burn Boot Camp South Riding. “Our trainers play a key role in your personalized experience. They can adjust any movement for injuries, pregnancy, or if you’re simply getting started. We use only the most effective training equipment and our signature floating floor, designed to absorb impact, protect your joints, and reduce injury risk. Each week, our carefully crafted protocol delivers the ideal balance of cardio conditioning, muscle building, and recovery, helping you train harder and see better results.”

Every Sunday morning, members get a sneak peek at the upcoming week’s protocol, ensuring that no two workouts are ever the same. “At Burn, you’ll never repeat the same workout twice,” Rebecca says, keeping things fresh and exciting for everyone.

Looking ahead, Rebecca hints at big things on the horizon. “Huge things are coming in 2026! We’re putting the finishing touches on some major updates, and we can’t wait to reveal them. Follow us on Instagram to stay in the loop and be the first to hear all the exciting announcements.”

The heart of Burn Boot Camp South Riding is its community, and Rebecca loves to share stories of members who have transformed their lives. “I began prioritizing sleep before my 5 am camps, eating right throughout my day, and picking up heavier weights at every camp. Slowly, but surely, I began feeling like myself again. I am forever thankful for the consistency and camaraderie of Burn Boot Camp South Riding!” says Kelly B., a current member.

Another member, Danielle D., recalls, “I signed up for a trial, and it didn’t take long to realize that it was one of the best decisions I’d made for myself. I’ve had nothing but positive experiences since joining the Burn Boot Camp community at South Riding. It truly has benefited me in so many ways, mentally and physically, and has completely changed my lifestyle for the better. And now I can confidently say that I feel more like the role model I wanted to be for my son.” Rebecca believes the trainers and the community set Burn Boot Camp apart. “We are a dynamic community whose commitment to each other and the mission is one of a kind. We believe hard work is energizing,

problem-solving is exciting, and competition is inspiring.

Trainers at Burn Boot Camp lead highenergy, results-driven group workouts designed for members of all fitness levels. They inspire and challenge members to push beyond their comfort zones while providing the support, motivation, and guidance they need to achieve their health and fitness goals.”

For anyone feeling hesitant about starting their fitness journey, Rebecca’s advice is simple: “The most important investment there is: YOU! No matter the time of year, we want you to step into our community that shows up for each other, works hard, and builds not just strength, but confidence and character. Every workout is part of a purposeful 4-week cycle designed to build strength, endurance, and mental resilience. With progression tracking and intentional programming, you’ll see measurable progress, not just sweat. Regardless of the time of year, we’ll be here for you... ready to inspire, empower, and transform your fitness journey.”

Rebecca sums up the spirit of Burn Boot Camp South Riding: “Our community is more than a gym; it’s a family that encourages confidence, embraces challenges, and creates an environment where everyone feels seen, valued, and capable of achieving their goals. Kolache Craze Comes to Ashburn

Sweet, savory, and seriously scrumptious

Do you know what a Kolache is? Kolache (kuh·laa·chee) are from the Czech Republic. It is a pastry with sweet or savory fillings. They are also popular in the Midwest and in Texas. Alex and Jing Stimpson own American Kolache and live in Willowsford, in the Grove. American Kolache just opened its first Virginia location in Ashburn.

The Stimpsons have always wanted to have a business focused mainly on breakfast, and something everyone would enjoy. So, a few years ago, after they first tried kolaches, they decided that their business was going to be kolaches!

At American Kolache, they have about thirty different types of Kolache; they serve seven sweet and about 23 savory

ones. The most popular one is the brisket, and Philly cheese steak is also very popular. I tried some, and my favorite so far is the Apple Pie flavor.

They are open 6 am to 2 pm Monday through Saturday and 7 am to 2 pm on Sundays. They serve breakfast and lunch. They started a business because they like interacting with the community and wanted to give something back. “When you open a business, it gives you a lot of opportunity to connect and meet new people,” said Alex Stimpson. That is one of the many reasons why they started the business.

At American Kolache, the main jobs are bakers and cashiers. The bakers wake up at 3 a.m. to start making kolache! The

cashier’s job is to talk to the customers, serve the food, and open and close the store. They may open another location in the next two years, depending on how well this one does.

The Stimpsons have three kids, Luna (9), Charlie (7), and William (3). They help their family by advertising for American Kolache. They can’t wait to welcome the community to their business!

A Venue Worth Remembering

A fairytale fall wedding

IN JUNE 2023, I went with my son Trevor, and his girlfriend Sierra, to the Stroll Outdoor Happy Hour Event at the Goodstone Inn in Middleburg, VA. It was a beautiful night, with delicious poolside appetizers and drinks, a great corn hole competition and smores around the firepit. We remarked on how lovely the venue was; peaceful, picturesque with rolling hills and gardens; the perfect backdrop for a wedding. We took many pictures that evening and had nice memories of the evening we shared.

Little did I know that just three months later, my daughter Rachel would

become engaged and the planning for a November 2025 wedding would begin. Our search began by attending a wedding fair at George Mason University where we were exposed to vendors….many vendors. It was a bit overwhelming, but we discovered a Loudoun County program that allowed us to register and receive information on what Loudoun County had to offer. This site helped us to identify potential venues. I began with a spreadsheet that listed venues, what was included, preferred vendors and pricing and of course, lead-times and grand totals. We would then spend

every weekend for the next 3 months looking for the perfect wedding venue in Loudoun County. This included visits to 23 farms, wineries, manor houses, parks, restaurants with gardens, and of course Willowsford Sycamore House and Lodge. We had originally thought that a venue where we brought in our own vendors for everything would be more cost effective, but that spreadsheet came in very handy and quickly revealed that venues that provided their own in-house catering provided a more competitive wedding package without the hassle of coordinating separate vendors. At the end of our search, we still hadn’t found a venue that Rachel loved. And then I remembered the Stroll event at Goodstone.

A quick visit to tour the grounds and see the options available, and we were hooked. The ceremony would be in the gardens just before sunset,, cocktail hour by the pool with firepits, and reception in the conservatory. In February 2024, with a Goodstone contract in place that included food, alcohol, linens, service, and wedding night accommodations, Rachel begin her

search for photographer, cake, music, officiant, and day of coordinator. I had compiled a book of all the business cards we received from the bridal fair plus all the preferred vendor recommendations from every venue we had visited. Over the next six months, Rachel tackled the vendors one at a time. Once one was secured, she moved on to the next. She had a string quartet play during the ceremony and cocktail hour, and a harpist play during the reception. A close friend became the officiant, and I made the flower bouquets and boutonnieres. Rachel designed the invitations, all the table centerpieces and decorations.

It’s now January 2025, and the last thing to tackle was the wedding dress. Our first stop was St Anthony’s Bridal in Fairfax. They take one-time worn wedding dresses that are donated and resell them for VERY reasonable prices. Unfortunately, Rachel was unable to find a dress that she liked and after 3 months visiting at least 20 dress shops, we were now out of time. Dresses need to be ordered and the lead-time is 6-9 months. Rachel had a few dresses on hold and was about to make a final decision, although none of them were “the one”. I had remembered a Facebook posting from a few years back where several Loudoun County housewives had said they found the perfect dress at the Bridal Barn in West Virginia. So out to WV we went and the experience was amazing.

Rachel loved the dresses and ended up picking one that the sales associate recommended for her. It was custom-made to her measurements by a designer in Greece, and, she looked beautiful in it!

The wedding itself was like a fairytale. Rachel planned every detail and the event was fabulous. The Goodstone Inn coordinator, Katie, was wonderful and made all of Rachel’s ideas come to life. Even the weather cooperated, with the skies clearing and sun coming out for a lovely fall day with a gorgeous view of the rolling hills at sunset as our backdrop. We had ordered wedding blankets from Amazon, but didn’t even need them. We were ready about 2 weeks ahead, which reduced the stress and made the wedding weekend very enjoyable. The day before we all had mani/pedis at Yeppi Nail Salon. Julie, the owner, gave us her entire salon for the morning and even let us have snacks and champagne! My best advice to everyone is to secure your venue at least 18 months ahead, and then don’t try to do everything at once; tackle it all one piece at a time. And most importantly, enjoy the planning process and have fun; every visit to bridal shows, venues, wedding dresses, cake tastings, and manicures is a once-ina-lifetime experience to cherish with your daughter or son.

The Grant’s goldendoodle goofball!

Lots of people have dogs in Willowsford, but there is only one Kash. Kash lives in the Grant with the Mistry family, and is a super fun and energetic dog. He is a goldendoodle and recently celebrated his first birthday on October 17!

He has brown spots on white fur and is super-duper fluffy! He loves playing with his toys, which include a small rope for tug of war and multiple chew toys! His favorite toy is his stuffed dog, which

he plays with constantly. He also loves playing in his basement and loves running around. He will eat anything you give him, but is allergic to turkey, salmon, duck, and soybean. Here’s a fun fact: Though Kash lives in Virginia, he was actually born in Ohio! His first flight was when he was

really little, and he was flying from Ohio to Virginia. Kash is a really friendly dog, and loves meeting new people! He really enjoys making new friends and loves playing with everybody! If you see him in the neighborhood with his owners, Shetal and Kajal, be sure to say hi!

As the project came together, collaboration was truly at the heart of the process. Working alongside our interior design team at Grace Thomas Designs were the experts at The Perfect Blind, who allowed each space to unfold thoughtfully and with intention.

Grace Thomas Designs shaped the overall vision, layering warmth, texture, and timeless style to support both beauty and livability for our busy household. The Perfect Blind brought that vision to life through carefully selected window treatments that balanced light, privacy, and comfort—essential elements for creating calm, welcoming spaces. Sara’s kind spirit set the tone from the very beginning, and her easy, thoughtful approach made the entire process feel calm and enjoyable rather than overwhelming.

What truly elevated the experience was how seamless and supportive The Perfect Blind team was at every step. Sara and her team were a pleasure to work with—attentive, flexible, and genuinely invested in the final outcome. Their craftsmanship complemented the design direction beautifully, resulting in spaces that feel polished yet cozy. From the soft glow in the bedroom to the serene bathroom and welcoming home office, the final result is a warm, inviting home that offers our family a sense of retreat, reflecting not just great design, but the care and collaboration behind it.

We would love to feature your living space, either indoor or outdoor!

Stroll Coffee & Connections Networking Breakfast

Sprout Therapeutic Riding & Education Center brought a little extra magic to Willowsford Lodge when they hosted the last Stroll Coffee & Connections breakfast of 2025. The star of the morning? Lucky, Sprout’s adorable mini horse, had everyone smiling, snapping photos, and soaking up the joy of his company.

Sprout Founder Brooke Waldron shared, “We loved partnering with Stroll for the November Coffee & Connections! Our miniature horse, Lucky, loved meeting new and longtime friends throughout the morning! It was great to connect with other businesses and learn more about each other with introductions, interactive discussion questions, and raffles that highlighted each business.”

Sprout’s presence highlighted its commitment to giving back through its programs and to creating spaces where others can connect, learn, and support one another. Guests left not only with new professional connections but also with a renewed sense of belonging and shared purpose within the Stroll Willowsford community.

Brooke Waldron of Sprout added, “So many Stroll partners support Sprout throughout the year by donating silent auction items and providing sponsorships for our fundraisers, so we feel incredibly supported by this community. We thank Stroll Willowsford for creating an opportunity for us to connect and strengthen the relationships that help our community thrive!”

Guests were treated to a delicious breakfast spread from Greenleaf, a division of Root & Stem Catering, featuring seasonal, high-quality ingredients, along with hot coffee from Red Rooster Coffee Roasters of Floyd, Virginia. Taylor Feder, Root & Stem’s marketing manager added, “Community is one of Root & Stem’s core values, and the Stroll Coffee & Connections

event brought together such a unique mix of people and businesses. I’m so grateful to have contributed, made new friends, and I look forward to seeing some exciting partnerships blossom in 2026!”

The morning was filled with laughter, networking, and meaningful connections. Attendees also enjoyed a lively door-prize exchange, adding an extra dash of fun while reinforcing Sprout’s spirit of giving.

Stroll Coffee & Connections is a bi-monthly networking breakfast reserved exclusively for Willowsford residents, Stroll sponsors, and BeLocal Loudoun County sponsors.
