NOTE FROM YOUR PUBLISHER
HOME, AGAIN Summer travels, milestone moments, and the feeling of coming back to what matters most.
“The magic thing about home is that it feels good to leave, and it feels even better to come back.” —WENDY WUNDER
Hello, Willowsford Community Residents, July is the heart of summer, and for many of us, that means time away. Calendars fill with vacations, long weekends, family trips, and days that pull us out of our usual routines. And yet, there is something just as meaningful about coming back. After time away, we often notice the familiar things a little differently: the ease of being home, the neighbors we run into

A proud Hokie family moment in May, celebrating our nephew Henry’s master’s graduation from Virginia Tech. Since Frank and I are both Hokies too, we couldn’t pass up a photo with the Hokie Bird. Below: A May trip to New Orleans, where the fun of getting away made coming home feel even sweeter.”
without planning it, and the traditions and simple comforts that remind us why this community is so special. That feels especially meaningful this month as we celebrate our country’s 250th birthday. Here in Willowsford, we see the spirit of America in everyday ways: neighbors showing up for one another, families building traditions, children growing up together, and local businesses and volunteers helping keep our community connected. It is a reminder that freedom, service, and community are lived out right here at home. This issue also celebrates some of our own Willowsford milestones. Our cover features local high school seniors who joined us for a special photo shoot, and inside, we recognize even more students from preschool and kindergarten through 4th grade, 8th grade, high school, and college. Whether they are heading off to school, stepping into a new chapter, or simply growing up a little faster than we expected, these moments remind us how quickly time moves and how important it is to celebrate each season. As you flip through this issue of Stroll Willowsford, please take a moment to notice the Preferred Partners featured throughout these pages. Their support makes this publication possible, and your referrals and recommendations help keep it strong. When you need a local product or service this summer, I hope you’ll think of them first. Here’s to the places we go, the memories we make, and the feeling of coming home again. Best,

AROUND THE NEIGHBORHOOD
Getting Connected in Willowsford Meet the storytellers behind Stroll Willowsford’s community connections.
HI NE IGHBOR S! I ’ M JENNY BU RKE, and I’m so excited to be joining the Stroll Willowsford team. My husband, Matt, our 10-year-old daughter, Riley, and I love being part of this community, and I’m grateful for the chance to help tell the stories that make Willowsford such a special place to call home. I’ve spent many years working in communications, PR, and marketing, but what I’ve always loved most is connecting with people and sharing the moments, milestones, and experiences that bring communities together. Whether it’s highlighting a local family, celebrating a neighborhood event, or supporting a small business, I truly believe everyone has a story worth sharing. I’m looking forward to getting to know even more of our neighbors and helping keep our community connected through Stroll. If you have a story idea, community highlight, or just want to say hello, I’d love to hear from you. See you around the neighborhood!
HI! I’M E VIE GARCI A , and you may have seen me in the April issue of Stroll Willowsford. Having grown up in Willowsford, this community has had a lasting impact on both me and my company, Enfinite Marketing, which makes it especially meaningful to now step into the role of Social Media Manager for Stroll Willowsford. My goal is to reflect the heart of this community through thoughtful storytelling and engaging content that feels authentic to the residents who live here. In my work across content creation, strategy, and brand support, I focus on building genuine relationships with the businesses and individuals I work with because I believe great social media starts with truly understanding the people behind it. Willowsford has played a meaningful role in shaping who I am, and I’m excited to now give back by helping share the stories that make this community so special. As I continue supporting Stroll Willowsford, I’d love to hear from you! Please reach out anytime at egarcia@enfinitemarketing.com with ideas, feedback, or recommendations. Your voice is what helps keep this community connected! Share your adventures! Look for our picture request posts on Instagram, @strollwillowsford, and Facebook, www.facebook.com/groups/strollwillowsford, or email billie.rose@strollmag.com for a chance to be featured in “Around the Neighborhood”!

A Note from the HOA Onsite Community Manager J U LY. H OW D I D WE G E T to midsummer so quickly? Well…truth be told, for production reasons, I am writing this in mid-May, imagining what July will feel like. The intense heat, the quiet schools, sandy vacations, and coconutscented sunscreen. With the price of gas what it is, lots of folks may be treating themselves to “Stay-Cations” this year, and Willowsford is ready! Whether you are bringing the little ones to dip a toe in the wading pool, playing at the splash park, visiting one of several playgrounds, fishing in Willow Lake in The Greens, or taking a short flight on the zipline in the Grove, Matt, Jaydan and our dedicated team of vendor pros have been working hard to get things freshened up and ready for you and your family to enjoy summer. The pools are sparkling for both leisure time and serious swim team endeavors…Go Waves! Maybe this is the year you decide to put in that dream pool, patio, outdoor kitchen, screened porch, or poolside tiki bar. That sounds wonderful to me! Please make sure you connect with our Community Standards department before you begin your project! Marlith, Candace, and the Willowsford volunteer Design Review Committee are standing by to review and expedite your project proposals. We are happy to help, and remember, as with all exterior property improvements: APPLY + YES = SUCCESS! I would be remiss if I did not mention the four Willowsford Signature Events that take place seasonally. By the time this sizzling issue of Stroll hits your mailbox, Willowsford will have enjoyed the annual Family Picnic and fireworks display at The Lodge complex. This is my first year onsite,
and no one is more excited than I am! Shout out to Ellie, Amanda, and the entire hospitality team for their passion, creativity, organization, and care. You are the best in all you do! Chef Emily is our partner in all things tasty, and we love working with her; don’t forget to say hello the next time she’s in house. So much has been happening since that freezing, snowy day in January when I joined Willowsford. Many thanks to the Board of Directors for your faith in my leadership and expertise; the first few months have been a whirlwind of activity. One of the recent changes to our team is Kimberly’s promotion to Assistant Community Manager. She has stepped up confidently into this space with clarity, compassion, and determination, leading Resident Services and taking ownership of this year’s Pool Season. Congratulations, Kimberly! One other big change is that both The Lodge and Sycamore House are now open each business day, Monday through Friday, in addition to weekends. This is thanks to adjustments to our scheduling, which allow Jasmine (Sycamore) and Julie (Lodge) to be the smiles and hospitality at both buildings every day. So…summertime. July. I hope this season is good to you and yours. Time for a slower pace (and maybe some summer camps for the kiddos). Good food. Great neighbors. Lazy days and lightning bugs. However you decide to spend your summer, wishing you safe travels, sunny days, and steady sails. See you around the Village…
Suzie.

ELLIE WALTERS BY AMANDA BUSEY • PHOTO CREDIT: MOLLY CASSON
MEET ELLIE WALTERS, LIFESTYLE DIRECTOR Ellie Walters began her journey with Willowsford in 2016, As she celebrates 10 years with the community, it’s clear she has become an invaluable part of its story! Originally from North Dakota and raised in Tennessee, Ellie still makes it a priority to visit family there each year. Tennessee also holds a special place in Ellie’s heart, as that is where she met her now-husband. While he wasn’t originally from the South, he helped deepen her love for country music and bonfires. Outside of work, Ellie enjoys getting lost in a good book, preferably while swinging in a hammock, where she 24
July 2026
appreciates the simple pleasure of turning and the smell of real pages. She also loves puzzles (especially textured ones!), craft fairs, spontaneous road trips, and the calm energy of a good thunderstorm.
ELLIE’S WILLOWSFORD JOURNEY Over the course of her career at Willowsford, Ellie has embraced a variety of roles, guided by her natural curiosity and eagerness to grow. She began as a part-time Hospitality Team Member in 2016 before transitioning to a fulltime role in the Covenants Department in 2017. There, she developed a strong understanding of the community’s policies, knowledge that laid the
groundwork for her next role as Resident Services Supervisor. Serving as a frontline connection for residents, Ellie thrived on building relationships and staying closely involved in the day-to-day life of the community. Her journey eventually came full circle when she stepped into the role of Communications and Hospitality Manager. Working within the Lifestyle Department, Ellie was introduced to the vibrant “Life” side of Willowsford, an experience that sparked a deep passion and sense of purpose. That passion ultimately led to her promotion to Lifestyle Director in 2025.
PROMOTION TO LIFESTYLE DIRECTOR In her current role, Ellie finds immense joy in bringing ideas to life. Reflecting on her favorite part of event planning. “There are so many little details that go into an event, and while it may start as just a bunch of contracts and signatures, the real magic is seeing the result. It’s a child’s face, amazed by a
magician at Family Picnic & Fireworks. It’s multiple generations sharing a meal at Mother’s Day Brunch. It’s watching inspiration come alive during a cooking class, or simply seeing a couple dance together at First Friday Happy Hour,” Ellie remembered. “Those moments, supported by our incredible team, make all the hours worthwhile.”
From the early Developer era, to the Chef Bonnie years, to the unforgettable chapter with the farm goats, each phase of Willowsford’s evolution has added something meaningful to Ellie’s journey. She remains deeply grateful for every experience and looks forward to continuing to shape the community she loves.
FUR REAL: LIFE IS BETTER WITH DOGS
Since childhood, dogs have always been a central part of Ellie’s life. So much so, her parents were convinced that one day she would grow up to run a doggy daycare. Today, she shares a home with three wildly humanized fur babies: Harper (10), Kevin (6), and Tilly (1). Harper, the oldest black lab, is her truly “one-in-a-million” dog. Kevin (and yes, his name suits him perfectly!) is the younger lab and embodies classic second-child syndrome. Tilly, the beautiful baby girl Bernese Mountain Dog, is an unstoppable whirlwind of fluff, goofiness, and chaos. There is a lot of doggy love in her household!
FUN FACT: THE PERFECT DAY
Ellie has never been out of the country or on an airplane. She’s more of a road-trip girl, but she’s open to flying one day. Ellie’s perfect day would be waking up on the beach at the Outer Banks, with windows open and curtains flowing. The morning would start with comforting smells of biscuits and coffee, followed by no specific itinerary and no shoes.

WILLOWSFORD CONSERVANCY
The Ecological Value of Oaks IN OUR REGION’S neighborhoods, parks, and backyards, oak trees stand as quiet cornerstones of the ecosystem. Their broad canopies offer shade in the summer and a blaze of color in the fall, but their true value runs much deeper than what we can see. Oaks are among the most ecologically productive plants in North America, supporting hundreds of species in ways that very few other trees can come close to. At the heart of this relationship is the oak’s role as a host plant. Hundreds of species of caterpillars rely on oak leaves to complete their life cycles. While it can be tempting to view these leaf-eating insects as pests, they are in fact a critical link in the food web. Caterpillars are a primary food source for many songbirds, especially during nesting season. A single brood of chicks often requires thousands of caterpillars brought to them by their doting parents to successfully fledge and leave the nest. Without trees like oaks to support these insects, many of the birds that define the landscape, like bluebirds and chickadees, would struggle to survive. This connection between oaks, insects, and birds illustrates a much larger truth: healthy ecosystems depend on native plants. Oaks have co-evolved with local wildlife over thousands of years, creating intricate relationships that are essential to a functioning ecosystem. When we replace native trees with ornamental or non-native species, we often lose these connections. A yard may still look green, but it becomes far less capable of supporting life. Yet even in landscapes where mature oaks still stand, the next generation is not guaranteed. Across much of our region, young oak seedlings struggle to survive beneath dense canopies and heavy browsing from deer. In 2019, the Conservancy’s Land 26
July 2026
Stewardship team began a long term “oak release” project near the Grant Family Campsite to address challenges preventing young oaks from thriving. This project included two phases, first removing competing and lesser quality trees so that more sunlight could reach the forest understory. At the same time, our Deer Management Program helped reduce excessive grazing on young plants so they have a chance to grow. Together, these strategies give acorns a fighting chance to become the towering trees of the future. The next time you pass beneath the spreading limbs of an oak, consider the hidden world it sustains. From the tiniest caterpillar to the chorus of birds overhead, these trees are more than just part of the scenery. They are living ecosystems, quietly sustaining the rich web of life that surrounds us.

HARVEST FOR GOOD W
illowsford Farm is excited to launch a new partnership with Anna Sudha Community Kitchen to grow fresh, organic produce for local families facing food insecurity. The partnership will begin with okra, with plans to expand into tomatoes and eggplant as support and volunteer participation grow. Called Harvest for Good, the initiative combines sustainable farming, community service, and hands-on volunteer opportunities for residents of all ages. The program aims to donate more than 50 pounds of fresh, organic okra to Anna Sudha each week during the peak summer production.
DID YOU KNOW? Okra is part of the hibiscus family and is a flowering plant grown for its edible seed pods.
What makes this project especially meaningful is the community involvement behind it. Anna Sudha Community Kitchen will recruit and train volunteers from the Willowsford community and its broader network to assist with harvesting and deliveries, creating opportunities for residents, families, and children to participate directly in getting fresh food to those who need it most.
Volunteers will have the opportunity to experience the farm in a new way by helping with harvesting and weeding during the growing season, while learning more about sustainable agriculture and food access. No prior farming experience is required, and opportunities will be family-friendly. This will also be a great opportunity for high school students looking to get a head start on service hours. The project also highlights the growing role of the Farm’s Food Access Initiative, which supports efforts to grow and donate fresh produce to local hunger-relief organizations. Since 2021, the Farm has donated tens of thousands of pounds of produce to regional food access partners, including Dulles South Food Pantry, Seven Loaves Food Pantry, Loudoun Hunger Relief, and Mobile Hope. Through partnerships like this, the Farm continues its mission of connecting people to the land and the food it produces while expanding access to fresh, locally grown food across the region. We hope to see you in the okra patch this summer! Residents interested in volunteering or learning more about Harvest for Good can scan the QR code below.

FURRY FRIENDS & FARMYARD FUN AT 4 LUCKY DUCKS FARM The Junior Writers explored cuddly cows, silly sheep, and darling donkeys during a memorable morning at 4 Lucky Ducks Farm. BY RESIDENT AND JUNIOR WRITER DAVID BLUDAU
T
he Junior Writers May meeting took place at 4 Lucky Ducks Farm in Middleburg, a beautiful farm with delightful animals. We got to learn about the farm and got to meet the adorable animals on a tour. The owners and farmers, Angela and Krister, explained that the farm got its name because they have four kids who were ‘Lucky Ducks’ to grow up on a farm. The sixty-six-acre farm was bought in 2021 to avoid development. In total, they have four Airbnbs on the property: The Studio, The Main House, The Blacksmith’s Cottage, and The Hayloft. Now, they have a terrific farm, but they never actually planned to be farmers. They started with buying some sheep, which made them feel happier. Then Angela started getting excited with Mini Highland Cows on Instagram, so Krister bought her one, which they named Coco (Coconut)! She was like a dog, even going to coffee shops in Middleburg with Angela! When she got older, Coco went into the field with the sheep, but was depressed without a loving companion anymore. They explained their situation to a cattle farmer, and ended up with a new Mini Highland Cow named Cash. Coco and Cash became instant companions and are always close together. 28
July 2026
When we went on the tour, the first animals we saw were the donkeys and the Boer Goat. The farm has five donkeys in total, Jack, Jane, Jenny, Joey, and baby Josie. Louis, the Boer Goat, is an escape artist and every time he escaped, the horses would attack him and bite his tail. Louis even showed us his escape artist skills, sneaking out of the gate when we were coming out! Next, we saw the Mini Highland Cows from the Highlands of Scotland. Coco is super friendly and obviously loves Angela! We learned that Mini Highland Cows do not have top teeth so they cannot bite. This is a good thing because Coco loves to lick Angela’s arm, sometimes even putting Angela’s whole hand into her mouth! They eat grass and love treats, but do not like the rain or summer heat.
Lastly, we saw the sheep. We got to hand them food, which they happily ate. On the farm, the two breeds are Kerry Hill Sheep, and the rare Black Nosed Valais from the Swiss Alps. Every year, they shear the Kerry Hill sheep, but the Black Nosed Valais get sheared three to four times a year, since they aren’t used to the heat. The sheep were just sheared the week that we came, so they weren’t as furry as they usually are. After the wool is cleaned and processed, Angela and Krister felt the wool, and make ornaments with it. We had a great experience, and I highly recommend everyone come and enjoy the farm. The Airbnbs are lovely, and visitors get full access to the farm while they are staying there. I also recommend a tour, you will get to meet the animals, and may even get to process some wool! I give 4 Lucky Ducks Farm a five-star rating, and you will too! Visit fourluckyducksfarm.com, and book your experience now!!! Are you interested in learning more about the Junior Writer team? Email jenny.burke@strollmag.com!

Vblu: A Chantilly-based pool design and build company behind Willowsford’s beloved community pools—and the backyard retreats now shaping life at home. In Willowsford, a great pool is about more than a place to cool off. It is where neighbors gather after camp pickup, where children stretch long summer afternoons into evening, and where families make the kind of memories that define a community. That is part of what makes NVblu, based in Chantilly, such a natural fit for this neighborhood. The company helped design and build Willowsford’s community pools, giving residents firsthand experience with the kind of thoughtful, elevated outdoor environments the team is known for creating. Today, that same design sensibility is finding its way into private backyards across the community and beyond. For Bobby Thomas, vice president of design and business development, that connection matters. When meeting with a

Willowsford homeowner, he often begins with a simple point of familiarity: NVblu created the community pools many residents already know and enjoy. It immediately establishes trust, but it also reflects something deeper about the company’s philosophy. Rather than treating commercial and residential projects as separate worlds, NVblu brings a residential sense of beauty, comfort, and flow to every project—whether it is a neighborhood amenity or a private outdoor retreat. That approach has helped the company shape aquatic spaces across Northern Virginia for more than four decades. That thinking is especially well suited to Willowsford, where homesites often feature sweeping views, mature landscaping,

“The Willowsford community has been a blessing to our company and me for many years now, providing us the opportunity and canvas to do what we love and do best,”
and natural contours that invite a more tailored design response. As Bobby puts it, “I always design the outdoor living space as an extension of the existing home and landscape.” For NVblu, that means every decision begins with cohesion. “Any and all structural components must be cohesive with and complement the architecture of the home,” he says. And when a property presents elevation changes, the firm leans into them. “Whenever the yard slopes up or down from the house, I will undoubtedly work with the lay of the land rather than against it,” Bobby explains, incorporating “retaining walls, plantings, and water features to terrace and soften the hill or transition,” while often using “the flow of water to introduce a soothing visual and sound that enhances the overall experience within the space.” The result is a poolscape that feels considered, natural, and entirely at home in its setting. Among Willowsford homeowners, Bobby says the interest is increasingly centered on complete outdoor living environments rather than stand-alone pools. Families are asking for resort-style spaces that blend indoor and outdoor living, often incorporating spas, tanning ledges, in-pool loungers and benches, shade structures, outdoor kitchens, fire features, and carefully selected stone materials. The emphasis is on cohesion—spaces that are equally ready for quiet mornings, weekend entertaining, and everyday family life. That long-view mindset is one of the reasons NVblu encourages homeowners to think early about how they truly want to live in the space. How many people should it accommodate? Will the pool be used for relaxing, entertaining, sports, or children at play? Who will be using it most
often—young children, teens, adults, or multiple generations of family? Just as important are the practical questions: How much maintenance feels realistic? What does the yard naturally support in terms of sun, slope, drainage, and privacy? And which features are worth doing now, before they become difficult or costly to add later? Those conversations help shape designs that remain beautiful and functional for years to come. For Willowsford residents, there is something especially meaningful about working with a company already woven into the fabric of the neighborhood. That connection is not lost on Bobby. “The Willowsford community has been a blessing to our company and me for many years now, providing us the opportunity and canvas to do what we love and do best,” he says. “All for the benefit of the residents, to maximize the enjoyment, lifestyle, and memories they create with their friends and family without needing to leave home.” He is equally appreciative of the way the community’s stories are shared. “Stroll magazine does an amazing job showcasing some of the many environments and experiences we have created along the way, helping the residents of Willowsford understand and conceive of the possibilities that exist when you partner with the right team and dream big,” Bobby says. WILLOWSFIT!
WHERE CHARACTER MEETS THE GAME Willowsford resident David Clifford teaches lessons that last far beyond the field BY WILLOWSFORD RESIDENT AND EDITOR-IN-CHIEF JENNY BURKE
F
or David Clifford, soccer has always been bigger than the scoreboard. A resident of the Greens in Willowsford for the last nine years, David has seen how the game brings families and neighbors together. That connection is personal. He first kicked a ball at age two while growing up in Burnley, UK, home to Burnley FC, one of the founding members of the world’s first professional soccer league in 1888. 34
July 2026
David came from a humble background, where children could not always afford a proper ball. Games happened wherever there was space. Coats became goals, and a crushed can could become the ball. What mattered most was the joy of playing, belonging, competing, and growing through the game. That early experience still shapes how he sees soccer today. David played through his college years and now plays in Loudoun Soccer’s adult league, where several Willowsford-based
teams also compete. He has been involved with Loudoun Soccer for five years as a volunteer coach, travel coach, and board member. Today, he serves as President of Loudoun Soccer, bringing the perspective of a player, coach, parent, volunteer, board leader, and Willowsford resident. He also brings a professional strategy lens. In his day job, David is a strategic advisor at West Monroe, a global business and technology consulting firm, where he works with medium- to large-scale enterprises, including many S&P 500 companies and C-suite leaders. That experience informs his approach to Loudoun Soccer: mission-driven, well-governed, strategically focused, and grounded in community impact. That perspective matters as Loudoun Soccer enters an important next chapter. The club ranks among the top 5% of youth soccer clubs nationally by scale, but for David and the club’s leadership, scale alone is not the goal. Loudoun Soccer is refreshing its strategy to strengthen its community foundation, deepen player development, and ensure responsible growth that supports access, quality coaching, strong programming, and an exceptional player experience. For Willowsford families, the connection is already strong. Many residents participate in Loudoun Soccer programs across recreational, travel, academy, and adult levels. The club’s local ties are also reflected in its leadership, with Willowsford residents including Technical Soccer Director John O’Hara and Vice President Chad Hetrick. At the heart of Loudoun Soccer is a simple belief: player development comes first. Winning matters, but not at the expense of the player. The club helps young athletes grow technically, tactically, physically, socially, and emotionally, building players for life, not just for the next match. As Loudoun Soccer looks ahead, its mission remains clear: to provide an exceptional soccer experience while developing strong people, teams, and community. For David, the goal is bigger than the scoreboard. It is about protecting the joy of the game, widening access to it, and helping every player discover what soccer can teach them.

or Willowsford resident and Legacy Farms volunteer Diane Geiser, flowers are only part of the story. What truly grows at the nonprofit flower farm is confidence, connection, and opportunity for neurodivergent young adults. Diane first became involved with Legacy Farms three years ago after being inspired by the organization’s mission to provide vocational training and personal development through flower farming. Legacy Farms, a non-profit founded in 2012, offers apprenticeship-style learning and job opportunities for neurodiverse individuals preparing for college, learning a trade, or entering the workforce. During her time with the organization, Diane worked as both Farm Assistant Manager and Program Director, dedicating up to 25 hours a week to coordinating garden tasks, mentoring apprentices, developing training programs, and helping communicate Legacy Farms’ mission throughout the community.

Today, although her role has shifted to volunteer support, her passion for the organization remains strong. “Being with some of the hardest-working flower farmers around and supporting their growth and job opportunities is one of the greatest benefits. Enjoying gorgeous flowers is another,” said Diane Geiser Legacy Farms’ programs extend beyond gardening, offering apprenticeships in areas such as media design, photography, sales, and community engagement, all while fostering mentorship and real-world job skills. Diane recently helped coordinate a volunteer service event through her current employer, White Pearl Management, where employees worked alongside Legacy Farms’ neurodiverse team planting warm-season flowers. Outside of her volunteer work, Diane and her family have long prioritized service, including making sandwiches for those experiencing hunger and volunteering with Special Olympics events. Now newly empty nesters, they continue to find meaningful ways to give back. For Diane, the spirit of service mirrors what she loves most about living in Willowsford: the trails, the community spirit, and neighborhood traditions like the Fourth of July celebrations. ooking for some fun this summer, Hanson park has expertly designed fields, courts, and playgrounds for all ages. Whether you know about the park or not, you will find new surprises if you’re up to the challenge of finding them. Haldore ‘Hal’ Hanson and his wife, Berni, gifted their land to Loudoun county to use as a park. Sadly, Hal died in 1992, but because of him, Loudoun county has a terrific park for everyone to enjoy. The park is on both sides of the road, located at 22831 Hanson Park Drive, Aldie. The four year old, two hundred fiftyseven acre park is great for everything. From catch-and- release fishing, to splashing at the splash pad, to skating at the skate park, everyone has something to do here. The park features trails, lots of wooded areas, five ponds, and also some piers for fishing.

Hanson Park is one of my favorite spots to go with friends because there’s always something different to do. We’ve played on the playgrounds, celebrated a birthday there, used the skate park, and explored the trails. - David Bludau
SPORT FIELDS Athletes of all ages can enjoy over twenty fields and courts including baseball, softball, football, basketball, cricket, lacrosse, soccer, pickleball, and tennis. The park also has an eighteen hole disc golf course. Little league baseball and softball use the fields for games and practices.
NATURE CENTER With exhibits and activities, masterminds young and old would love the Nature Center. Which is open from ten to four from Tuesday through Saturday. The center encourages children to have fun with curiosity, exploration, and action. Kids learn how humans like themselves impact the world around them. The Nature Center has many cool things to learn. It has live animals and real animal bones and fur. Children seeking more can join educational programs, and summer camps.
SPLASH PAD
PLAYGROUNDS
Opening in May, the ten thousand square foot splash pad is perfect for all ages. It features water cannons, a bucket drop, and even water squirting spiders. The Splash pad is right next to the playground, and this is perfect for children who want to splash and play.
The park features two playgrounds on different sides of the park. Both with super fun slides, ropes, and real looking animals, from lizards, to wild turkeys. The bigger one has a scavenger hunt connecting animal tracks and animals.
SKATE PARK
The three thousand, five hundred square foot lodge is perfect for any occasion. The lodge features a massive floor to ceiling fireplace, and lots of event space. The lodge also has scenic gardens, ponds, and trees out back. Anyone can also have their wedding here, with beautiful nature surrounding them.
The twenty thousand square foot skate park is a very special park. It was designed by Wally Hollyday, who designed the 2020 Tokyo Olympics skate park. The park is designed to have the same elements that were at the Tokyo Olympics. It has a street plaza, half-pipes, and quarter-pipes. The Olympic-Level skate park is perfect for all ages seeking a great amount of fun.

I AM A T H I R D G R AD E R at Hovatter Elementary School and this year we did something fun and exciting. Do you know what an informance is? An informance is an informal performance where you show what you have learned. A few months ago, our teacher told us that we are having a Science Informance for our parents about animal adaptations. In our project, we had to research an animal of our choice and make a presentation on Canva. The whole class started researching their favorite animals. I chose the Koala because I love how furry and cute they are. My friends chose cool animals such as the Fennec Fox, the Bald Eagle, the Sea Turtle, and the Giraffe. One of my friends even did the Koala just like me! On the day of the informance, everybody was very excited and a bit nervous. I was mostly just excited! Each slide had to show different facts of the chosen animal such as habitat and diet. A lot of parents came to see our projects. The parents stopped at everyone’s desk to learn about the interesting facts about these animals. They even asked us some questions. All the teachers and parents were proud of all the hard work we put into this project. My favorite part was when we got to teach the parents how to make tree maps about animals of their choice. Also, since I love Canva so much, I really enjoyed working on this project. I hope we do more informances this year. OrthoPelvic Physical Therapy and Wellness Where Strength and Confidence Begin WRITTEN BY STROLL WILLOWSFORD STAFF WRITER LIA HOBEL
OrthoPelvic’s Dr. Skyler Adams and Dr. Amaya Lilies offer thoughtful, one-on-one care.
“MOVE BETTER . FEEL STRONGER . LIVE CONFIDENTLY.” This motto reads
like a promise, but at OrthoPelvic Physical Therapy, it also serves as a philosophy. From its Sterling office, the practice offers a more personal kind of physical therapy, one built around listening closely, treating the full body, and helping patients find lasting answers rather than temporary relief. Led by Dr. Amaya Liles, Doctor of Physical Therapy, OrthoPelvic has become known for thoughtful, one-on-one care that bridges orthopedic treatment and pelvic health. The result is an approach that feels both highly specialized and deeply human, especially for patients who may have struggled to find care that looks beyond the surface of their symptoms. “Fixing the root cause means taking the time to understand why symptoms are happening, not just where they hurt. At OrthoPelvic PT, we look at the full body, including movement patterns, posture, core, and pelvic floor function.” For many people, physical therapy has felt rushed or formulaic, with 46

generalized exercises and too little time spent understanding what is really going on. OrthoPelvic Physical Therapy takes the opposite approach. Each visit is designed to be individualized, hands-on, and centered on the body as an interconnected system rather than a series of isolated complaints. That perspective is especially meaningful in pelvic health, where discomfort is often minimized or left unspoken. At OrthoPelvic, those conversations are met with expertise and discretion in a setting designed to make patients feel safe, informed, and heard. As Dr. Liles puts it, “You’re not alone! What you’re experiencing is more common than you think. Many pelvic health concerns are treatable, and you deserve to feel comfortable and confident in your
A defining part of the practice is the way it connects pelvic health to strength, stability, and everyday movement. Rather than treating the pelvic floor in isolation, Dr. Liles considers how it works with the core, hips, posture, and movement patterns that shape how someone functions day to day. “The pelvic floor is deeply connected to the core, hips, and overall movement. When we treat it as part of the full body, patients see improvements not just in symptoms, but in strength, stability, performance, and everyday function. It allows people to move better, feel stronger, and return to activities with confidence.” For patients, the outcome often extends beyond pain relief. It can mean returning to exercise without hesitation, feeling steadier in everyday routines, or simply trusting their bodies again after months or years of discomfort. Dr. Liles describes that transformation simply: “The biggest shift is confidence. Patients feel more in control of their body, less limited by

symptoms, and empowered in their daily lives. It’s not just physical improvement; it’s a mindset shift toward strength and confidence.” That sense of confidence also shapes how the practice sees its place in the broader community. For Willowsford readers, OrthoPelvic Physical Therapy offers not only expert care close to home, but also a trusted resource for families seeking answers, support, and a more complete path forward. As Dr. Liles says, “It’s an opportunity to build meaningful relationships within the community, provide education, and be a trusted resource for families. We love being present, supporting local events, and helping neighbors feel their best.” Ready to move better, feel stronger, and live more confidently? OrthoPelvic Physical Therapy invites Willowsford residents to take the first step toward personalized, whole-body care designed to help you feel your best.

WHAT DRIVES US?
The Dog Days of Summer Willowsford resident Darren Parzow shares summer reminders for keeping dogs safe, social, and cared for. BY TRACI PASQUALONE, PUBLISHER, THIS FEATURE SPONSORED BY HILLYARD AUTOMOTIVE
F
or Darren Parzow and his family, Willowsford has become much more than a place to live. Since moving to The Greens in June 2017, Darren, his wife Misse, and their daughter Emma have found the kind of connection they had not experienced in previous neighborhoods. Their family also includes three Rottweilers: Boris, Venus, and Lucifer, so life in the Parzow household includes plenty of energy, personality, and love. “One of the things we love most about Willowsford is how neighbors look out for one another,” Darren shared. “There is a real sense of belonging here, and we love truly knowing our neighbors, not just living near them.” That same love of dogs and community helped inspire Darren and his family to open Hounds Town Dulles in May 2025. They had always wanted to open a business, but wanted it to be something that felt like the right fit for their family. With their lifelong love of dogs, Hounds Town stood out because of its philosophy, including its no-breed and no-agediscrimination policy.
"Our family knows the high cost of repairing and maintaining your vehicle. As summer settles in, Darren says warmer weather, travel plans, kids home from school, longer workdays, and shifting routines can all affect dogs. Add in heat, hot pavement, ticks, and sudden storms, and summer becomes an important time to think ahead about safe activity, socialization, and care options. “Sharing these summer pet-care tips felt like one small way to help families plan ahead and keep their dogs safe during a busy season,” Darren said. For families nervous about trying daycare or boarding for the first time, Darren encourages them to ask questions and look for a place that treats dogs as individuals. With the right environment, dogs can stay active, social, supervised, and cared for while their families travel, work, or manage a busy summer schedule. More than anything, Darren hopes neighbors come away with a little more awareness of what dogs may need during the summer months. Do you have a passion for a particular subject, hobby or activity? Whether it’s a career or a pastime, we want to know what inspires you! Email jenny.burke@strollmag.com to be featured!
DARREN’S SUMMER DOG REMINDERS
“Sharing these summer pet-care tips felt like one small way to help families plan ahead and keep their dogs safe during a busy season.”
• Keep routines in mind. Dogs notice when family schedules shift. A consistent care plan can help them feel more settled. • Think beyond exercise. Long outdoor walks may not be safe during the hottest parts of the day, but dogs still need activity, stimulation, and social time. • Watch the heat. Dogs can overheat quickly during outdoor play, walks, or time on hot pavement. Supervised indoor activity can be a safer option on especially hot days. • Plan ahead before travel. Summer vacations fill up fast, and waiting until the last minute can make boarding more stressful for both dogs and owners. • Don’t forget fireworks. July celebrations can be fun for families but stressful for dogs. A little planning, from creating a quiet space at home to choosing boarding away from nearby fireworks, can help keep dogs calmer and more comfortable. • Know your dog’s personality. A good care environment should consider size, temperament, energy level, and play style so each dog has a safe, positive experience. STROLL Willowsford

CELEBRATIONS
Lights, Camera, Musical! Celebrating the theatrical arts! BY RESIDENTS AND JUNIOR WRITER SIA PATEL, THIS FEATURE SPONSORED BY CAPITAL TRIMLIGHT
T
he weekend of April 18 through 19 was a super fun, busy, and exciting weekend for the students at Watson Middle School. Specifically for the young actors, tech crew, and teachers involved in the production of a musical. Everyone worked tirelessly to create a beautiful production. The end result? Matilda: The Musical. These individuals worked hard for many weeks and performed for three evenings in a row. And it was worth it, and everyone got a huge round of applause for their efforts and contributions. I was part of the tech crew, and our job was to make sure that the musical ran smoothly. Some people in the tech crew operated the soundboard while others worked with the props. A few actors and actresses played more than one character and required quick changes. People – including myself – who did costumes and makeup in the tech crew had to help make these quick changes happen. When the final curtain fell, everyone congratulated each other on the amazing work that they did. Everyone’s performance was incredible and it certainly was a weekend to remember!

ello friends! When it comes to dogs, there are three levels of cuteness – Cute, Super Cute, and Dexter! I am happy to introduce you all to my friend and neighbor’s dog, you guessed it – Dexter. Dexter lives in the Greens with the Hunter family. He is a Morkie who is a cool mix of white, brown, and black. Dexter recently celebrated his 6th birthday on March 15th. Dexter is really friendly and loves relaxing on the couch. His favorite doggie toy is turkey bacon. “Dexter is a couch potato,” exclaims his owner. Dexter enjoys car rides and walks. He does get home sick when he gets too far away from home. Whenever I go to Dexter’s house, he never barks and is always looking for a friend to play with. He also sits and

The First 10 Days: Why They Matter Most When Selling Your Home Deborah: What makes one home sell quickly while another sits on the market? Michelle: The first 7 to 10 days are critical. That's when buyer interest is highest and when a home either gains momentum or loses it.
Deborah: That's how you create urgency instead of chasing it later. Michelle: Exactly. Early momentum often leads to more showings and stronger offers.
Deborah: Why do some homes get strong offers right away? Michelle: Pricing. If a home isn't priced correctly from the start, everything becomes harder, no matter how beautiful it is. Deborah: And buyers remember homes they feel are overpriced. Michelle: Exactly. That's why pricing is the foundation. Then we create a launch strategy designed to maximize interest from day one. Deborah: Because buyers move fast today. Michelle: They do. Buyers can compare dozens of homes online in minutes. If the value and presentation aren't compelling, they move on. Deborah: And when a home sits, buyers start asking why. Michelle: That's why preparation, staging, photography, marketing, pricing, and timing all need to work together. Marketing can't fix poor pricing, and great pricing performs better with strong presentation.
Deborah: It's how we helped sell Chatham Green Circle for $40,112 above asking price in May. Michelle: That result came from strategic pricing, thoughtful preparation, and a strong launch plan. Deborah: So success often starts before the home hits the market. Michelle: Absolutely. The most important work happens before buyers ever see the listing. Deborah: For homeowners considering a move, the right pricing and launch strategy can make all the difference. Michelle: If you're thinking about selling, we'd be happy to discuss your home's value and how to position it for success from day one. Contact us at 703-568-6878.

CANYON QUEST & DESERT DREAMS Slot canyons, starry skies, and one epic Arizona adventure the whole family will never forget. BY RESIDENT AND JUNIOR WRITER WESTON MCLAUGHLIN, THIS FEATURE SPONSORED BY BA EXTERIORS
H AVE YOU E VE R HE ARD OF the seven natural wonders of the world? Well, one of them is right here in the U.S.! It’s called the Grand Canyon, and I’m sure you’ve heard of it because it’s one of the top tourist destinations in the country. More than this awesome landform, there are many unique landscapes scattered all over Arizona. My family went on an awesome five-day trip to Arizona last August. We flew into Phoenix late at night and had to take a long walk and a train just to get to our rental car. My family prepared in advance for the outdoorsy nature of the trip by each packing and carrying a flashlight, water, protein bars, and a whistle on our person. We all laughed at Mom for including the whistles. Thank goodness I never had to use it. The flashlight actually came in handy way more than I expected because most of Arizona is dark sky! We started our trip by driving to the Bespoke Inn in the mountains of Flagstaff. It was pretty chilly up in the mountains, which felt great since the weather for the rest of the trip was quite warm. The next day, we woke up and drove North toward the Utah border to see Antelope Canyon. My mom booked the Lower Canyon tour, and it was pretty incredible. You can’t see that there is a canyon walking up to it, as the slot goes down into the ground. We had to climb down four flights of metal stairs to get to the bottom of the canyon floor. It’s a slot canyon made by rushing water, which is no longer flowing, and my absolute favorite part was having to hike and squeeze through the super narrow rock walls. 68

The colors and sand layers are almost not believable, it looks like a piece of art. After our Canyon tour, we stopped for lunch in Page, AZ. After lunch, we drove over to Horseshoe Bend. The mile-ish walk from the parking lot to the Bend wasn’t boring at all because there were many giant, natural rock structures for kids to climb on and open spaces to run around. The path was paved and easy to walk. My family had a blast taking pictures next to the famous Bend and seeing how far we could climb up giant rocks for cool photos. That night, we got to sleep in a clear dome out in the middle of nowhere, at a place called Clear Sky Resorts. We could see the stars right through the roof! The next day, we finally went to the Grand Canyon. It was so much bigger and more magnificent than I expected it to be! We walked along the rim all day, which was cool but a little scary because some spots do not have protective fences to keep you away from the edge. My favorite parts of the Grand Canyon
were getting to pet the dogs people brought, touching the giant rock samples at the educational stops, and seeing wild adult and baby elk right on the side of the road at the park entrance. I’m not sure I’ll ever see anything else like it, so the Grand Canyon is something I’ll remember forever. We ended our trip at the Enchantment Resort in Sedona, and I think it was the best resort I’ve ever been to. We rode the beautiful grounds on golf carts, played pickleball as a family after dinner, and even got to use real telescopes connected to my Mom’s iPhone to take awesome pictures of the stars. While in Sedona, we took a half-day ATV tour through the dusty trails, which was completely worth it. It was the perfect summer trip! That is one National park crossed off my bucket list, and our family agrees it was one of our favorite vacations. I’m glad that we were able to go on this amazing, breathtaking trip to Arizona. You should check it out if you have not been! Share your travel adventures with us! Email jenny.burke@strollmag.com!

Blue Skies and Ocean Tides From salty breezes to sun-soaked adventures, an island escape packed with unforgettable family memories. BY RESIDENT AND JUNIOR WRITER VIRAJ VARAKANTAM
IN SE PTE MBE R 2 02 5 , my family and I went to Hawaii, and it was the best trip I have ever had! We landed at Kahului Airport on the island of Maui. Hawaii is a beautiful group of islands in the Pacific Ocean and is part of Polynesia. The weather was warm and sunny almost every day, and there were palm trees, beaches, and colorful flowers everywhere. We went with my aunt, uncle, baby cousin, and grandparents to celebrate my cousin’s 1st birthday. It was so special because our whole family got to spend time together. My favorite part of the trip was riding in a helicopter with my grandpa. We flew high above the islands and even went to another island! From the helicopter, we saw green mountains, waterfalls, and the bright blue ocean. The coolest part was seeing the famous “Jurassic Park” waterfall. It looked just like a movie scene and was absolutely mesmerizing. My second favorite activity was snorkeling with my dad. The ocean water was so clear that we could see many colorful fish and turtles swimming around us. I even saw an octopus hiding between the rocks and a stingray gliding through the water. It felt like exploring an underwater world! During our trip, I also tried sushi for the first time. Almost my whole family tried it too, and I was surprised that I actually liked it. Hawaii has lots of delicious food and fresh fruit. 70

We went to the Nakalele Blowhole and it was so cool because the water shot up super high from the rocks. Then we watched the sunset at Haleakalā National Park, and the sky had amazing colors like orange, pink, and purple. I think Hawaii is an amazing place to visit during the holidays because there are fun activities for people of all ages. You can relax on the beach, explore nature, and make wonderful memories with your family. I would definitely recommend going to Hawaii whenever you have the chance. It is a trip I will never forget! Gelato, Gondolas, and Tuscan Hills From ancient ruins to colorful canals, follow family adventures through the heart of Italy—one pizza, pasta, and piazza at a time! BY RESIDENT AND JUNIOR WRITER KIANA GULATI, THIS FEATURE SPONSORED BY ADAM HUKE WITH CASSADAY & COMPANY, INC.
T
his spring break, my family and I flew across the Atlantic Ocean to begin our unforgettable adventure in Italy. From the ancient ruins and lively streets of Rome to the beautiful vineyards and rolling hills of Tuscany, our trip to Italy was filled with experiences I can’t wait to share with you!
FIRST STOP: ROME! Out of all the places we visited, Rome was my favorite because it had the perfect blend of history and Italian culture. I had so much fun visiting Vatican City, exploring the Colosseum and the Roman Forum, and learning about the history of Rome.
NEXT STOP: FLORENCE Florence was a beautiful city. We visited the Florence Cathedral and climbed the Bell Tower. One of the main things we did in Florence was eat and run around the city trying to find one of the famous affogato and wine windows. These windows date 74

back to the 1600s, when merchants used them during the Italian Plague to sell items without human contact and help prevent the spread of disease.
NEXT STOP: TUSCANY AND CHIANTI While in Florence, we rented a car and drove through the rolling hills of Tuscany to a winery in Chianti. It was so pretty! The little cottage we stayed in used to be a barn for pigs and cows back when the winery was still a farm. On our first day there, we visited a place called Castellina in Chianti, where we found a restaurant with huge pizzas. We also drove to Pisa and saw the Leaning Tower of Pisa—it really does look like it’s falling!
LAST STOP: VENICE! The City of Canals certainly lives up to its name, with canals everywhere you look! It was such a gorgeous city, and as
someone who loves water but isn’t a fan of beaches, it was the perfect place for me. I tried cannolis for the first time there, and we also went on a gondola ride. By taking the vaporetto, we visited the Murano Glass Factory, where it was amazing to see how their colorful glass items are made. Burano had the most colorful houses, which stood out beautifully against the bright sun. One of the best things about Italy was the food. The desserts, the pizza, and the pasta were all incredible. Now that I’m back home, regular food tastes boring in comparison. As our trip came to an end, I kept begging my parents to let me stay in Italy, but of course they said no. Still, Italy was an amazing experience, and if you haven’t been there, you really should go. Share your travel adventures with us! Email jenny.burke@strollmag.com!

Loving Where They Live Again THIS FEATURE SPONSORED BY HARRIFORD EXTERIOR RENOVATION
After:A striking exterior transformation that enhances the home’s character while protecting it for years to come.
Before: Like many homeowners, the McSorleys expected their exterior to last longer. Instead, faulty installation led to ongoing siding problems.
O
ne of the things residents love most about Willowsford is the pride people take in their homes. Front porches stay busy on summer evenings, neighbors stop to chat on walks, and homes become part of the community’s personality and warmth. So when the McSorleys began dealing with serious siding problems caused by faulty builder installation, it was something they saw and worried about every single day. 76
July 2026
As Willowsford residents, owners of NOVA Luxury Travels, Kevin and Michele McSorley wanted more than a quick fix. They wanted to feel proud of their home again and find a team they could truly trust throughout the process. That peace of mind came with Harriford Exterior Restoration. “We couldn’t be happier with the work Harriford Exterior Restoration did on our home. Our siding was in disrepair due to faulty installation by our builder, and honestly, we weren’t sure what to expect going into the project — but from start to finish, Brandon and his crew exceeded every expectation. Brandon was communicative, responsive, and genuinely easy to work with throughout the entire process. Any questions we had were answered quickly,
and we always felt like we were in good hands. The crew was professional and respectful, and the quality of their work speaks for itself. The transformation of our home’s exterior is remarkable. We went from a siding that was an eyesore to a home we’re truly proud of. We would highly recommend Harriford Exterior Restoration to anyone looking for a team that delivers on their promises.” Now, instead of focusing on the flaws, the McSorleys get to enjoy what matters most, feeling at home again in the neighborhood they love, with a house they are proud to share with friends, neighbors, and family.
