Still Strolling, Ten Years Later
Looking back with gratitude, celebrating where we are, and carrying forward the community connections that make Willowsford special.
“Long live all the magic we made.”
TAYLOR SWIFT, “LONG LIVE”
Hello, Willowsford Community Residents,
August is still very much summer in Willowsford. The pool is busy, evenings are still long, and there are still vacations, camps, farm stand runs, and a few more summer memories to squeeze in before school starts later this month.
This August feels especially meaningful because it marks 10 years of this publication. Ten years of stories, families, milestones, and connections that became so much more than I ever could have imagined.
“What began as a new chapter in my life has become one of the most meaningful parts of it. Over the past decade, I’ve had the joy of meeting so many Willowsford families, sharing your stories, celebrating your milestones, and watching this community grow and change in such special ways.”
At its heart, Stroll Willowsford has always been about connection. Neighbors getting to know neighbors. Families feeling seen. Residents discovering trusted local businesses. Stories that remind us how much life is happening all around us, right here in Willowsford. This anniversary issue brings some of those stories full circle. In our “Where Are They Now” feature, we are catching up with cover families from the early years and sharing what life looks like for them today. In “Now & Then,” we are revisiting some of our “Welcome to the World” babies and seeing the incredible children they have become.
We are also recognizing the Preferred Partners who have supported this publication since the early years. Their belief in Willowsford has helped make it possible to share these stories month after month, year after year. When you need a local business, I hope you will continue to think of the partners you see in these pages first.
To every resident who has opened your home, shared your family, submitted a photo, written an article, attended an event, supported a local business, or told me this magazine helped you feel more connected to Willowsford, thank you. Those comments have meant more than you know.
I am also grateful for the relationships we continue to build with the HOA and the Willowsford Farm & Conservancy, and for the opportunity to celebrate what makes this community so unique.
Ten years later, I am still strolling, still grateful, and still excited for the stories ahead. Thank you for being part of the magic.
As summer fades and new chapters begin, we celebrate the moments that bring neighbors together.
“There are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind.”
C.S. LEWIS
A Season of New Beginnings
August always feels like a month of transition. The long, carefree days of summer begin to give way to fresh notebooks, first-day photos, packed lunches, and the excitement of a new school year.
As a mom, I feel that August shift in our own home, too. We are getting back into routines, filling the calendar again, and trying to soak up those last slower days before the school year begins.
As I step into this role during Stroll Willowsford’s 10th anniversary year, I’m grateful to be part of its next chapter. This magazine has always been shaped by the neighbors who share their stories, photos, milestones and memories, and I’m excited to help continue that tradition in the months ahead.
As I look through this issue, I’m reminded that the best stories aren’t always the biggest ones. They’re found in first days of school, neighborhood gatherings, local businesses, family traditions, and the everyday moments that become lifelong memories before we even realize it.
As summer comes to a close, I hope you take a moment to soak in these last warm evenings, cheer on the new adventures ahead, and celebrate the milestones—big and small—that make this season so meaningful.
Here’s to fresh starts, new friendships, and another wonderful chapter in our community’s story.
See you around the neighborhood, Jenny

First Annual Volunteer Shirt Art Contest Winner
BY AMANDA BUSEY
We are thrilled to recognize Adelina, age 12, our very first Volunteer Shirt Art Contest Winner! A talented young artist and longtime Willowsford resident, Adelina’s creativity, energy, and community spirit truly shine through in her artwork.

A Fresh Season, Fresh Perspectives
Meet the Farm Team
If you’ve visited the farm stands, picked up your CSA share, or spent time around the farm this season, you’ve likely seen some new faces. Over the past several months, Willowsford Farm has welcomed a new team of farmers and staff whose backgrounds span sustainable agriculture, horticulture, environmental science, community outreach, and retail operations.
While each team member brings a unique set of skills and experiences, they share a common passion for local food, stewardship of the land, and building connections with the community.
In the Field
Leading the team is Farm Director Paul Harnden, who brings decades of agricultural experience from Maine. His background includes managing a family apple orchard and vegetable farm, overseeing operations at an organic dairy farm, and implementing regenerative farming practices focused on long-term soil health.
Joining Paul are farmers Kylie Thomas, and Charlotte Wilson. Together, they bring experience from nonprofit farms, agricultural research, horticulture, farmers’ markets, and sustainable food systems. Together, they bring experience from nonprofit farms, agricultural research, horticulture, farmers’ markets, and sustainable food systems. Throughout the season, they help manage crop production, care for plants in the greenhouse and field, and support the daily work that keeps the farm growing.
Farm Operations & Outreach
Coordinator Emma Merz, Farm Stand Retail Associate Alyssa Maring, and CSA Delivery
Driver Brett Kosinski help connect the farm’s work with the broader community, supporting farm operations, CSA members, farm stand activity, and delivery logistics.
Putting Skills to Work
As the season gets underway, the team has already taken on projects across the farm. One recent highlight has been bringing the farm’s transplanter back into use, helping streamline planting during the busy growing season and supporting efficient crop establishment in the field.
Kylie has also helped expand the farm’s microgreens offerings, introducing new varieties for customers to enjoy. At the Farm Stands, Alyssa’s background in retail and agricultural nonprofit work has helped create a welcoming experience for visitors while supporting Native Plant Sales and customer engagement.
Across the farm, the team continues to contribute new ideas, skills, and enthusiasm that support the daily work of growing food for the community and our food access partners.

BEYOND THE BEES
Nature’s lesser known pollinators
When most people think of pollinators, they picture showy butterflies flitting across a meadow or honey bees buzzing through a garden. But many of Northern Virginia’s most important pollinators are smaller, quieter, and often overlooked. These unsung species play a critical role in keeping our ecosystems healthy and productive. Pollinators are responsible for helping plants reproduce by moving pollen from one flower to another. Nearly 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators in some way, including many of the fruits and vegetables that you eat every day.
One of the region’s hardest-working pollinators is the hover fly. Often mistaken for small bees or wasps, hover flies are harmless insects that feed on nectar and pollen. While visiting flowers, they pollinate many native plants, and their larvae provide another benefit by feeding on garden pests like aphids. In our region, hover flies can commonly be spotted around asters, echinacea, and phlox.
Another underappreciated pollinator is the beetle. Beetles co-evolved alongside flowering plants and were the original pollinators for many ancient species. One of these species is the magnolia which developed roughly 95 million years ago, long before bees and other pollinators
existed. Other ancient species that you’ll find around Willowsford that developed alongside pollinator beetles include the paw paw and spice bush. Even plants that don’t primarily rely on beetle pollination will often be visited by beetles, including goldenrod and mountain mint.
While butterflies receive most of the praise, many native moths pollinate flowers at dusk and during the night. The hummingbird clearwing moth, which resembles a tiny hummingbird as it hovers over flowers, is a particularly fascinating example found in our region’s gardens and meadows. This time of year, keep an eye out for them in the Wet Meadow in The Grange on the wild bergamot or swamp milkweed.
Supporting these lesser-known pollinators can be simple. Planting diverse native flowers, reducing pesticide use, and leaving some natural habitat areas undisturbed can provide food and shelter throughout the year. By looking beyond the familiar butterfly or honey bee, we can gain a deeper appreciation for the incredible diversity of pollinators quietly sustaining the landscapes around us every day.
ADVANCED CORRECTIVE CHIROPRACTIC
WHEN SMALL SIGNALS MATTER
WRITTEN BY STROLL
WILLOWSFORD
STAFF
WRITER LIA
HOBEL
FOR MANY WILLOWSFORD FAMILIES, life moves quickly. Between work, children, school, sports, and time outdoors, small physical changes can be easy to dismiss. A recurring headache, stiff neck, achy low back, or numbness may not seem urgent, but Dr. Chad Parsons of Advanced Corrective Chiropractic in Ashburn says those early signals deserve attention.
“One of the most common things we hear from patients is, ‘I wish I had come in sooner,’” he says. Many people wait months or years, assuming discomfort will resolve on its own or is simply part of aging.
Over time, unaddressed discomfort can affect posture, balance, sleep, mobility, and function. At Advanced Corrective Chiropractic, Dr. Chad looks beyond
temporary relief. Through evaluations and digital X-rays when appropriate, he works to identify structural and neurological imbalances behind recurring problems.
A recent patient experience shows how symptoms can escalate. In October 2025, a man came to the office after months of neck pain, numbness and tingling down his arm, and burning into his shoulder. Massage, prior care, medication, and an emergency room visit had brought little relief.
Wanting to explore options before surgery, he contacted Dr. Chad because of his Advanced Certification in Chiropractic BioPhysics® (CBP), a corrective technique focused on restoring proper spinal alignment and addressing structural causes of dysfunction.
After an exam and digital X-rays, Dr. Chad identified structural changes in the patient’s cervical spine, including Anterior Head Syndrome, or “tech neck,” and a reversal of the normal neck curve. Care began conservatively and focused on reducing underlying stress rather than only managing symptoms.
After two visits, the patient reported sleeping until 5 a.m. without waking from pain. Within two weeks, he no longer relied on pain medication. Within six weeks, the numbness and tingling had resolved, and he was pain-free.
With continued corrective care, he returned to lifting weights, teaching karate, and enjoying activities that had once felt impossible. For Dr. Chad, the story underscores the importance of understanding what is causing a problem instead of simply chasing symptoms.
That same theme applies to everyday symptoms people dismiss in busy households, active families, and deskbased workdays. Recurring headaches, stiffness, poor posture, numbness, tingling, and poor sleep can be early warning signs. Common, he says, is “not necessarily normal.”
His advice to Willowsford neighbors is simple: do not wait until the body forces you to stop. “Health challenges rarely appear overnight,” he says. “The people who tend to do the best are those who are proactive rather than reactive.”
Through Stroll Willowsford, Dr. Chad hopes to be a trusted resource for neighbors who value health, family, and staying active. Advanced Corrective Chiropractic welcomes residents who want to better understand what their bodies may be telling them.
To learn more or schedule an appointment,
One of the most common things we hear from patients is, ‘I wish I had come in sooner.”
A BACKYARD BUILT WITH HEART
With help from Omega Landscape Construction, John and Kristy Pellerito created the peaceful backyard retreat their family had imagined.
BY PUBLISHER, TRACI PASQUALONE
Residents John and Kristy Pellerito have called The Grant home for years, raising their children Sophia, a recent Independence High School graduate, and Tommy, a rising sophomore at Independence. Over time, they had outgrown their existing patio and wanted to create what Kristy described as a “serene backyard oasis” they could enjoy year round.
A fireplace was an important part of that vision, along with a larger flagstone patio where family and friends could comfortably gather. The Pelleritos had already worked with Huntlands Landscape Architecture on the plans, and Omega Landscape Construction became the team to bring them to life.
Omega was the second contractor they met with, and Kristy said she immediately knew Mackie Jenkins and his team were the right fit.
“Mackie had an enthusiasm for our landscape plans that felt genuine and unique,” Kristy shared. “Omega is not a company that just looks over your project and sends you a bid.”
Mackie took time to walk through the plans, help select materials, and make sure the estimate reflected the vision they all agreed would work best. Throughout the process, Kristy said
communication was consistent and the work was carefully managed.
The same crew arrived each day with smiles on their faces, and Kristy especially noticed the craftsmanship of the stonework.
“Their stonemasons are artists,” she said. “They made sure every stone was perfectly placed.”
One moment that stayed with Kristy was watching Mackie’s father in the field, reading blueprints and teaching members of the crew as they worked.
“He was teaching them and smiling and laughing with them,” Kristy said. “He truly loved working with his hands and sharing his knowledge with others while they were building our project together. I’ve never seen anything like that.”
Today, the Pelleritos love that their backyard is now a private oasis with a larger patio, fireplace, and space to gather in every season. What started as a desire to make better use of their yard became something their family can enjoy for years to come.
“I would tell anyone considering using them that they won’t be disappointed in the finished product or the process,” Kristy said. “When every single person takes pride in their work, their team, and the company they work for, amazing things are possible.”

How Can You Make Your Home Stand Out on Zillow?
Deborah:
When buyers start their home search, where do they usually begin?
Michelle:
Most buyers start on Zillow. They're scrolling through dozens of homes, so making a great first impression online is critical.
Deborah:
How do you make a listing stand out?
Michelle:
It starts with smart pricing, preparing and staging the home, professional photography, and a strong marketing plan. We also offer Zillow Showcase, a premium feature available through select Zillow-approved agents.
Deborah:
So not every Realtor has access?
Michelle:
Correct. Zillow Showcase is only available to qualifying agents, and we're proud to offer this added advantage to our sellers.
Deborah:
What does Zillow Showcase do?
Want your home advertised here?
Contact Michelle at 703-568-7868 to find out how!
Michelle:

Deborah: Does it work?
Michelle:

Deborah:
More exposure means more potential buyers.
Michelle:
Exactly. Combined with our marketing strategy, Zillow Showcase helps your home make a strong first impression.

The Garcia family was featured in the December 2019 issue of Stroll Willowsford, and the years since have brought both extraordinary milestones and unimaginable challenges.
Like so many families, the Garcia’s lives changed just months after their original family spotlight when the COVID19 pandemic arrived. Their Willowsford home quickly became a safe haven as Chris and Kathy worked remotely, the children attended virtual school, and the family embraced the unexpected gift of slowing down together. They built a backyard garden, spent countless hours with their dogs, and found comfort in simply being together. The friendships they had built in The Grant and throughout
Willowsford helped them maintain a sense of community during an uncertain time, making those months ones they now look back on with gratitude.
As life returned to normal, exciting milestones followed.
In 2021, twins Evie and Jackie graduated from John Champe High School and began their college careers at Virginia Tech, while Joey started his freshman year at Independence High School. Chris continued growing his consulting business, and Kathy poured her creativity into Kathy G Designs, creating beautiful handmade wreaths and home décor that still adorn homes throughout Willowsford.
Then, in 2023, the Garcia family experienced its greatest heartbreak. After being diagnosed with breast cancer and suffering severe
complications during chemotherapy, Kathy passed away. She had always been the heart of the family—the one who brought everyone together with warmth, generosity, creativity, and unconditional love.
Chris and Kathy’s story began in high school in Reston. Together they built a beautiful life over 22 years of marriage, raising three remarkable

children, launching successful businesses, supporting local charities, and creating countless memories. Her loss left an immeasurable void, but during their darkest days, the Willowsford community rallied around them with meals, prayers, friendship, and unwavering support. That kindness became a source of strength the family will never forget.
While grief remains a part of their story, so does resilience.
In 2025, Evie and Jackie graduated from Virginia Tech and began their professional careers, while Joey graduated from Independence High School before completing his first year at George Mason University, following in his parents’ footsteps while charting his own course.
Chris’s career has also evolved. After Reliant Consulting Solutions was acquired in 2024, he shifted much of his focus toward supporting The Foundation, a charitable organization he helped establish alongside fellow Willowsford residents. When he isn’t consulting or giving back to the community, his greatest joy is spending time with Evie, Jackie, and Joey.
If there is one lesson the Garcia family’s journey reflects, it is that life’s greatest joys and deepest sorrows often exist side by side. Through every celebration and every challenge, they have remained grounded in the love Kathy instilled in their family and strengthened by the remarkable community that surrounded them when they needed it most.
Today, the Garcia family continues to honor Kathy’s legacy by living with the same generosity, resilience, and love she shared so freely. They remain deeply grateful to call Willowsford home and thankful for the neighbors who became family along the way.

Holiday Getaway: Our Holland America Cruise
Sometimes the best journeys don’t happen on the road—they begin at sea.
BY RESIDENT AND JUNIOR WRITER PRESLEY MCLAUGHLIN, THIS FEATURE SPONSORED BY HILLYARD AUTOMOTIVE
LAST DECEMBER, my family and I had the privilege to go on a seven-day Christmas cruise with Holland America, it was our first! We secured a great room with a private balcony, that we loved because we were able to talk together, eat dinner, and enjoy the ocean view on our own balcony. Although our departure was pretty rough due to a storm that seemed to be following us for a couple days, we quickly adjusted to the rocking of the ship, and settled in. Once we acclimated, we were able to fully appreciate the ship and everything it had to offer. The pool area was a family favorite, featuring quick-service dining options, such as pizza and hamburger stands. In fact, my mom frequently stated how much she loved not having to cook, but instead being able to grab some food whenever someone was hungry.
For entertainment, the upper decks provided athletic facilities, including a basketball court and ping-pong tables. My dad, and my eleven-year-old brother, Weston, even participated in an organized basketball shooting competition. A definite highlight of the trip was the Crow’s Nest, a glass-enclosed lounge situated at the ship’s foremost upper deck. It offered a magnificent 270-degree view of our
surroundings, supplemented by a specialty coffee bar and an extensive collection of board games, puzzles, and game tables. It was an amazing environment for both relaxation and family fun!
We stopped at several ports on our cruise, including: San Juan, Puerto Rico; St. Thomas; Half Moon Cay, Bahamas.
• Puerto Rico: We participated in a fun excursion into the mountains to explore the rainforest, notable for being the only rainforest located within a current United States territory. We observed diverse indigenous wildlife, including
a uniquely localized species of frog, and Weston surprisingly encountered a Hovatter elementary classmate inside a historic watchtower in the rainforest! What are the chances?
• St. Thomas: Because we had previously traveled to the Virgin Islands for boating and snorkeling, we wanted nothing more than to have relaxing visit to the island. We rode a sky lift to an elevated peak that offered retail shops, dining, and exceptional vantage points of the harbor and its docked cruise ships. Overall the stop went well and everyone enjoyed riding the
sky lift to the top of the mountain, and looking out at the beautiful views. We also enjoyed some shopping in the old district. We enjoyed locally crafted coffees, treats and food and spent some time talking to the local people.
• Half Moon Cay: You may not recognize the name Half Moon Cay, because it is a private island owned by the cruise ships. This was my personal favorite stop because it was a gorgeous island with white beaches, and clear waters. While my Mom and brother enjoyed the beach and pickleball, my dad and I spent our time on horseback! I’m a horse lover so of course that was a favorite part of the trip, but the whole experience was really exciting. At first, they had us ride along the shore of the beach, then we went swimming on horses! My first time
Overall, the Holland America experience was an amazing trip, that welcomed a family-oriented atmosphere without disruptive noise and commotion, often associated with more party-centric cruise lines. We received exceptional, personalized service from our favorite breakfast server, which significantly enhanced

our mornings. We liked him so much we were sad to leave him! We are currently evaluating future travel itineraries and are strongly considering a Mediterranean cruise, a transit of the Panama Canal, or an Alaskan expedition. If you get the opportunity, don’t pass up the chance for total relaxation on a cruise, we loved it!

THE ULTIMATE POWER PLAY
Selfless donation proves that kindness is always a game-winning play.

AUDREY BLUDAU
ON SATURDAY, JUNE 6, I got a whole 12 inches of hair cut off. I decided to donate my hair to Locks of Love.
I had spent almost three years growing my hair, and in the days leading up to my haircut I was excited and nervous at the same time. In times of doubt, I remembered that some children lost all their hair and couldn’t grow it back.
I’ve seen firsthand how important a wig is for someone fighting cancer. My awesome 22 year old cousin was diagnosed with cancer last year. She completed chemo and radiation and is headed back to college in the fall. She was a huge inspiration in making my decision to donate.
This is actually the second time I’ve donated my hair. Four years ago I also had enough hair to donate. It was a big shock because my hair was very short. This time, I waited a little longer and was prepared for the change.
Locks of Love is a charity devoted to helping children under age 21 with hair loss, by creating wigs for them. There are many different organizations that accept hair donations, with different requirements and restrictions. I chose Locks of Love because I had enough hair to donate and because I wanted to bring joy to a suffering child. If your hair is long, then why don’t you donate? For more info about Locks of Love visit locksoflove.org.

Diljit Dosanjh makes history at Madison Square Garden
BY RESIDENT AND JUNIOR WRITER KIANA
GULATI, THIS FEATURE SPONSORED BY CARDINAL PLUMBING HEATING & AIR
ON MAY 24, 2026, Madison Square Garden witnessed a historic moment for South Asians around the world.
Diljit Dosanjh (Dil - jeet Doh - sanj), famously known as the first Indian singer to perform at Coachella, sold out not one, but two consecutive nights at the iconic arena. Fans traveled from all across the United States just to witness this massive milestone for the Indian community.
Born in Punjab, India, Diljit actually started out singing at gurdwaras and weddings. Gurdwaras are Sikh places of worship, but are also used as community centers. All gurdwaras are open to people regardless of their faiths, castes, and social statuses, ensuring equality for all.
When he received his very first paycheck, he bought a bicycle for a person with a disability and donated the rest to a gurdwara. His talent quickly caught the attention of a music producer, leading to the release of his debut studio album in 2003. Fast forward to 2013, and his single Proper Patola became the first Punjabi song ever featured on Vevo, marking the beginning of many major accomplishments to come.
As his popularity grew, Diljit seamlessly found success in both Punjabi and Hindi cinema. His international breakthrough came in 2020 when his album G.O.A.T. charted globally on Billboard’s Social 50. Two years later, he signed with Warner Music India, helping bring Punjabi music to an even larger global audience.
Diljit made history yet again as the first Indian artist to perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, opening doors for greater global recognition of Punjabi music. In 2024, he made his U.S. television debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, performing his hit songs Born to Shine and G.O.A.T. This year, he returned to the show with Morni, a track from his EP THE CALL OF PANJAB. The performance and interview quickly went viral, with the internet instantly embracing both the track and the bhangra that went with it. Bhangra is an energetic Punjabi folk dance that originated in the Punjab region of India and Pakistan. Known for its fast rhythms, high jumps, and expressive movements, bhangra is traditionally performed to the beat of a dhol, a large drum.
He has many songs that have reached international communities due to his collaborations with renowned artists such as Sia, Anne-Marie, and David Guetta. With Sia, he released Haas Haas in 2024, and along with David Guetta, they released Ranjha this past March. Anne-Marie also joined Diljit on a remix of his song Peaches in 2023.
Beyond his massive achievements, Diljit Dosanjh remains incredibly humble and down-to-earth. He always gives credit to others, even for the smallest things. As one of the thousands of fans in attendance, I could feel the electricity throughout the arena as history was being made.
During the concert, I noticed how often he included everyone in his success, saying, “We did it!” instead of “I did it!” One of Diljit’s iconic lines that he says at every concert is “Punjabi aa Gaye Oye!” which translates to “The Punjabis have arrived!” These small moments showed just how modest he truly is and how fame hasn’t changed him a bit. Punjabi aa Gaye Oye!

Yoga
SHALA
A PLACE WHERE EVERYONE BELONGS
WRITTEN BY STROLL WILLOWSFORD STAFF WRITER LIA HOBEL
As the back-to-school season arrives, local families are resetting their routines and looking for new self-care options. Today, as owner and teacher at Yoga Shala in Aldie, she channels decades of experience into a studio grounded in accessibility, excellence, and belonging, making it a perfect space to reset for both parents and kids.
Ownership was not Moore’s original plan. She once wrote that she “never planned to one day be the owner of a yoga studio,” but life and leadership prepared her.
“Yoga Shala has had four business owners, and prior to me taking ownership, the studio faced many challenges, from stability, leadership, the pandemic, and experience in and around small business,” Moore says. “While loving and enjoyment in teaching yoga are essential in studio ownership, having sound business practices will make or break any studio.”
Moore’s leadership experience shaped the studio’s next chapter. “I brought to the
table decades of experience managing and leading teams, big visions while keeping a small business mentality, and a culture of teaching, studying, and supporting people as students as well as valued clients,” she says. “I have always seen the potential in this space through the years, and I can proudly exclaim that we are meeting and exceeding expectations.”
To support the busy lifestyles of families in this area, Moore ensures parents don’t have to decide between family time and self-care.
“Whether someone is brand new to the practice of yoga or stepping back onto their mat after some time, each and every person is nurtured right where they are,” Moore says. “Our teachers are trained comprehensively in areas of trauma-informed, Somatic, nervous system-informed practices, and apply the teachings of Yoga appropriately to a broad range of students, with different backgrounds, ages, abilities, and

disabilities. No one is ever turned away because we believe yoga is for everyone.”
This includes a win-win option for households: members’ children (18 and under, living at home, and enrolled in LCPS) receive a free membership to attend studio classes alongside them. While independent access requires their own membership, this complimentary pass ensures families can practice together.
Classes include beginner sessions, heated flows, corporate wellness, and a school-year Kids & Teens program built right around the LCPS calendar.
Continuing education and accredited trainings offer a path from personal practice into teaching while preserving yoga’s integrity.
“From one’s very first visit, it is selfevident, Yoga Shala is different,” she says. “We sustain by doing what we do exceptionally and never dilute the
practice and teachings of yoga. This allows us to serve wholeheartedly and is the reason why people come and stay.”
Moore is mindful of people who arrive unsure or convinced they are not “yoga people,” so she emphasizes guidance.
At Yoga Shala, first steps are intentionally clear. “With so many styles and types of yoga, not all practices are the same or the right fit,” Moore says. “We provide details on how to prepare for your first class, and this alone alleviates much of the anxiety around trying something new and feeling intimidated. Our members are supported before they even roll out a mat.”
Her closing invitation is heartfelt: “Our doors are open, our space inviting, and each individual seen, felt, and heard. We do what we do, so you and your family can do what you do.”
Welcoming all generations: Senior-focused practice
Nurturing young minds and bodies: Giving local kids the tools to connect, stretch, and unwind.
A space for everyone: At Yoga Shala, classes are intentionally designed to be inclusive, supportive, and free of intimidation.

DASH is a dog rescue organization founded by a group of friends who shared a passion for animal rescue, fostering, and educating others about pet adoption. With backgrounds in rescue work and a love of spending time together, they decided one day that they could make an even bigger impact by creating a rescue organization of their own. Their goal was simple: save as many dogs as possible with the time, resources, and dedication they had.
The group chose the name DASH because they wanted something short, fun, and connected to dogs. As it turns out, Dash was also the name of a close friend’s beloved dog.
Their logo holds a special meaning, too. It was inspired by a black German Shepherd named Durango, who came from a very difficult situation. Every member of the team had formed a special connection with him, and his resilience and spirit became a symbol of everything DASH stands for.
Once the organization was established, the team divided responsibilities. Meg Hart took on planning events, managing marketing and social media, and responding to emails. Today, DASH rescues dogs from several states, including Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
One of the most important ways people can help is by becoming a foster family. Fostering gives dogs a safe place to stay while they wait for their forever homes. Foster families learn each dog’s personality, routines, and needs, making it easier to match them with the right adopters. For those who can’t foster, donations are another meaningful way to support the rescue, helping provide food, medical care, and other necessities.
When she’s not helping rescue dogs, Meg enjoys photography—especially photographing the dogs she helps save. Through the dedication of volunteers, foster families, and supporters, DASH continues to give deserving dogs a second chance at life.
