This season, I’m filled with gratitude. Thank you to everyone who participated in the May primary election. The Willamalane Local Option Levy narrowly passed, and this additional funding will help us continue to provide exceptional park and recreation service. Willamalane is committed to being good stewards of your tax dollars but not reliant on serial requests for future tax increases. Through partnerships, district reorganization, existing and new revenue streams, and the generous support of the Willamalane Park Foundation, the district’s financial outlook is bright. Willamalane is creating opportunities and efficiencies to support a long-term strong financial strategy. Our five-year financial plan is still underway, and we’ll provide regular updates at willamalane.org/transparency
Over the past year, Willamalane has been recognized as best-in-class, earning honors ranging from the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce’s Employer of the Year award to being named one of only four finalists for the National Gold Medal Award. The Gold Medal Award is widely considered the highest honor in the parks and recreation profession, recognizing excellence in park management, programming, conservation, and community impact.
These recognitions reflect the dedication of our staff, volunteers, and community partners and inspire us to continue doing what we love most, enriching the lives of everyone we serve.
Willamalane’s board is composed of five at-large members elected to serve fouryear terms. Public board meetings are usually held on the second Wednesday of the month, 6 p.m. at Bob Keefer Center for Sports and Recreation. Agendas are available the Friday before each meeting at willamalane.org/meetings.

We’re carrying this tremendous momentum and gratitude into our programming and strategic plans as we approach one of the most special seasons at Willamalane! This fall, your favorites will be back: Kids Club, preschool, youth sports, swim lessons, and trips. You’ll see more adaptive and inclusive recreation programming (page 22), changes to our Halloween events to make them more accessible and inclusive (page 8), and expanded youth programming to meet the needs of our community (pages 15-20).

Delivering exceptional parks and recreation to enrich the lives of everyone we serve.
Willamalane Park and Recreation District maintains and operates recreation facilities, community centers, pools, parks, trails, and natural areas in Springfield.
Created by voters in 1944, Willamalane is a special tax district, separate from the City of Springfield, governed by a five-member, elected board of directors and managed by an executive director. In 2022, Willamalane earned CAPRA accreditation, which signifies that the organization’s overall quality of operations, management, and service to the community are aligned with industry best practices. In 2026, Willamalane was named as a finalist for the 2026 National Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management, widely considered the highest honor in the industry.
Willamalane proactively works to foster welcoming parks, facilities, and programs, so that all of our community members and staff have access to the same opportunities and feel a genuine sense of belonging.
Accommodation requests help people with disabilities or who need extra support get individualized help in accessing all Willamalane programs and activities. There are usually no extra costs or fees associated with inclusion or accommodation services. Please submit accommodation requests at least two weeks before the date needed. Some accommodations can be fulfilled in less time.
Accommodations are frequently provided in the form of individualized support plans, a document that outlines the ways Willamalane staff are able to support the needs of the individual.
