B30 VLSFO Engine trial flyer V1.0-032026

Page 1

Proven fuel savings with B30 VLSFO using Unitor™ Fuelpower Catalyst & Conditioner

To assess the impact of fuel treatment on performance, a jointly witnessed engine trial was conducted in collaboration with China Classification Society (CCS). The evaluation was carried out on a MAN B&W 6S35ME-B9 two-stroke, low-speed marine diesel engine using B30 VLSFO under controlled and consistent operating conditions.

Specific fuel oil consumption (SFOC) was measured and compared across treated and untreated fuel scenarios, with the testing methodology verified by CCS to ensure that the performance improvements observed are both credible and reproducible under comparable operating conditions.

Verified SFOC reduction demonstrated

These results were achieved through an integrated fuel treatment approach combining Unitor™ Fuelpower Catalyst and Unitor™ Fuelpower Conditioner. The Fuelpower Catalyst enhances combustion efficiency by improving the fuel burn process, while the Fuelpower Conditioner stabilises fuel quality and reduces the formation of deposits.

Even a 1–2% improvement in fuel efficiency can translate into meaningful savings.

For a vessel consuming 50 MT of fuel per day, this equates to approximately 0.5 - 1 MT saved daily, reducing both operational costs and emissions over time.

Key Results

An SFOC reduction of 1.51% to 2.17% was observed for the treated fuel conditions

 Using weighted SFOC calculation, an overall reduction of 1.31% was achieved for the treated fuel conditions

Over time, this contributes not only to reduced fuel costs but also to lower emissions per voyage, directly supporting the vessel’s SEEMP objectives and improving carbon intensity performance under CII.

These results confirm that optimised fuel treatment can deliver tangible efficiency gains, even in complex fuel blends such as B30 VLSFO, translating into measurable operational benefits and improved compliance performance..

Product Properties

Product

Fuelpower Catalyst 779096

Fuelpower Conditioner 778785

Improves combustion using an iron‑based catalyst while ensuring fuel stability and homogeneity at injection, resulting in reduced ignition delay, cleaner combustion, and lower soot formation, keeping the engine and exhaust gas boiler clean. Performance validated by third‑party IP 541 testing.

Powerful dispersant‑stabiliser preventing sludge formation, improving purifier separation, and maintaining fuel homogeneity. Performance verified by Lloyd’s Register Additive Performance Test.

Fuel variability, particularly with the increasing use of biofuel blends such as B30 VLSFO, is introducing greater operational uncertainty for ship operators. Even when engines are well-optimised, untreated fuel can compromise performance. The trial results validated by China Classification Society (CCS) proves that a fuel treatment approach combining Fuelpower Catalyst and Fuelpower Conditioner, enables more efficient energy release and cleaner operation.
