Cheer categories may be divided at the State Championships by classification and/or by squad size if four (4) or more teams qualify that meet the following criteria:
SMALL: 15 participants or less
MEDIUM: 16-19 participants
LARGE: 20 participants or more
COED: One (1) or more male participants
A school may enter one (1) team in each category in a maximum of three (3) categories. Each student may participate in Tumbling OR Non-Tumbling, but not both, and may also participate in Stomp and Gameday.
NON-TUMBLING: Tumbling, except for inversions into load-in positions, stunts and pyramids, is not allowed. Tumbling is defined as any skill with feet over head rotation.*
GAME DAY: A 3-minute routine consisting of the following four elements, in this order: Band Dance, A Situational Sideline, Time Out Cheer, Fight Song.
STOMP: A 3-minute routine which includes elements of traditional cheer but with the focus of the stomp/step element.
In order for a team to qualify for the WIAA State Cheerleading Championships, the team must have participated in at least one (1) WIAA, WSCCA or schoolsponsored competition.
How can a team qualify:
Must have scored at least 64 as a minimum qualifying score in the non-tumbling division and stomp divisions or 70 as a minimum qualifying score in the tumbling and game day divisions (whole numbers only; there will be no rounding of decimals) after all deductions (based upon the cumulative scores awarded by the four judges) in the competition.
The competition must:
1. Be staffed entirely by school personnel and/or affiliates
2. Have all registration/fees deposited into the school ASB account
3. Not exceed the maximum per team registration/entry fee as approved by the WIAA and WSCAA
4. Utilize WOA/WSCJA judges
