Dozens of Migrant Children Join DCPS’s Student Population Bowser Forms Office of Migrant Services to Bolster Local Efforts Sam P.K. Collins WI Staff Writer Over the last five months, Texas and Arizona have sent 9,400 migrants to the District on buses. While some have gone on to connect with loved ones in other cities, many migrant families currently call the nation’s capital home. Those temporarily living at two District hotels include nearly 70 schoolaged children who have since been enrolled in District public schools. And to ease the transition of those children to their new homes and schools, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) announced the launch of the D.C. Office of Migrant Services last week. Bowser said those newly-enrolled students should be able to access DC

With American Democracy in Peril, Pulitzer Center Announces Grants to Uncover Threats
Decades of ‘Taxation Without Representation’ Fuel Demand for D.C. James Wright WI Staff Writer One of the main reasons District residents who favor statehood status fight for their cause has to do with paying federal taxes without the benefit of full voting representation in either chamber of Congress. “Many people throughout the country aren’t aware that District residents pay federal taxes but we have no vote on Capitol Hill,” said Josh Burch, founder of the advocacy group Neighbors United for DC Statehood.
