While six youth played sports and an adventure game on three Xbox video game systems, more than 100 others reclined in lawn chairs to hear a go-go band perform on stage outside of the Hillcrest Heights Community Center. Meanwhile, on the other side of Prince George’s County in Fairmount Heights, pouring rain forced about six dozen people to move inside the town’s municipal building. Fortunately, Police Chief Stephen Watkins stayed dry underneath a stairway where he grilled hot dogs and hamburgers for those anxious to have fun on National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 1. “Seeing these people here is why this town is great,” Watkins said. “Work is never done, but I couldn’t be at a better place.” Prince George’s County joined 16,000 communities and 38 million people to participate in the 34th annual nationwide event designed for residents to relax with neighbors and also connect with law enforcement and emergency personnel. Circuit ordered lower courts to issue permanent injunctions blocking enforcement of a law that limited the right to carry a handgun in public only to people with a "good reason" for self-defense. The federal appeals court struck down the regulations in its 2-1 ruling in Wrenn v. D.C., calling it unconstitutional and saying that the government cannot demand citizens provide a good reason before being issued a permit, Tuesday, July 25.
