AttendingKeyClubgeneralmeetingsareanessentialpartofbeing involvedintheclub.Thesemeetings,whichusuallyhappenevery month,givemembersachancetostayinformed,getinvolved,and worktogethertowardtheclub’sgoals.SinceKeyClubisan organizationthatfocusesonleadershipandcommunityservice, generalmeetingsplayabigroleinkeepingeveryoneconnected.
Oneofthemainpurposesofthesemeetingsistoshareupdatesand announcements.Theclubofficersgiveusimportantinformationabout upcomingevents,serviceprojects,andfundraisers.Thisisimportantbecause KeyClubalwayshasmultiplethingsgoingon,andit’seasytomisssomethingif wedon’tstayupdated.
Generalmeetingsarealsoatimeforrecognizingmembers’hardwork. Whetherit’sacknowledgingsomeonewhocompletedalotofservicehours orcelebratingthesuccessofafundraiser,thesemeetingsarewherewe takeamomenttoappreciatetheefforteveryoneputsin.
Lastly,thesemeetingsareagreatchancetogettoknowothermembers better.Icebreakers,groupactivities,orevenjustchattingwithpeopleyou don’tusuallytalktomakesthemeetingsmorefunandhelpsbuild friendships.Especiallyfornewmembers,generalmeetingsarea welcomingspacewheretheycangetinvolvedandmeetotherswhoshare thesamepassionforservice.
KeyClubbershaverackeduphoursandhoursand hoursofservicetohelptheirhome,school,and community.Andtorewardthis,clubshaveshippedout awardsthemselves(memberofthemonth,officerofthe month,etc)alongwithrecognitionintheDCMsand graduationhonors.However,whatifyoucouldgoone stepfurther?
ThanksinparttocommunicationbetweenWhitneyKey Club,theLaPalmaKiwanis,andnationalrepresentatives, ThePresidentialServiceAwardiscomingforthefirsttime toWhitneyKeyClubasawonderfulopportunitytogeta prestigioushonorforourhardworkrackinguphoursand improvingourlocalcommunities.
TheAwardhascertainrulesandregulations: accordingtothetableshown,mostKeyClubbers(in theteensandyoungadultssection),canapplyforthis awardandgeteitherabronze,silver,orgoldtier dependingonthenumberofhourstheyhaveracked upoverthepast12months.Moreinformationabout thiscanbefoundon https://presidentialserviceawards.gov/eligibility.
HaveyoueverheardaboutKeyClubbeingthe biggeststudent-runvolunteerorganizationin NorthAmerica?Haveyoueverbeenconfusedby allthedifferentacronymsandlevels?Inthis article,we’llbedelvingintothedifferentlevelsof KeyClubandwhateachoneentails.Bytheend ofthisarticle,you’llfacenomoreconfusion!
First,themostbasiclevelofKeyClubisthehighschoollevel;a clubiscomposedofofficers,whichmustincludeaPresident, VicePresident,Secretary,Treasurer,andEditors,aswellasits members.Onetofifteenhighschoolclubsmakeupadivision. WhitneyKeyClubispartofDivision30South,whichalsoincludes highschoolssuchasCypressandOxford.Ourcolorisyellow,and ourmascotistheSun.AdivisionisledbyaLieutenantGovernor (LTG);ourdivision’sLTGisDevinLe,ajunioratOxfordAcademy. EachdivisionalsohasaDivisionLeadershipTeam,withExecutive Assistants(EAs),aSpiritCoordinator,andmore.Theycanalso includecommittees,suchasourSpiritCommittee. Onetosevendivisionsmakeuparegion;Division30Southispart ofRegion3,whichisledbyseveralLTGsaswellasaregion advisor(RA).Regionsthenmakeupadistrict.Wearepartofthe California-Nevada-Hawaii(CNH)District,whichisthebiggest districtofKeyClubinternationally!Thedistrictboardis composedofLTGs,DistrictEditors,Chairs,andDistrictExecutives. Ourmascotisabee,andourdistrictgovernorisAustinAlves,a seniorhereatWhitney!
Threedistrictsmakeupadistrictpairing;wearepairedwiththe GeorgiaDistrictandtheMontanaDistrictforthisterm.Each districtpairingisledbyanInternationalTrustee;oursisAriana Lee.Lastly,alldistrictsadduptotheinternationallevel,whichis ledbyaPresident,VicePresident,andInternationalTrustees.The InternationalCouncilconsistsofaboardand33district governors.
That’sallforthelevelsofKeyClub!Asyoucansee,KeyClubisn’t justaWhitneything—it’saninternationalorganizationthatnot onlyconsistsofvariouslevels,butalsoispartofthegreater KiwanisFamily.KeeplookingoutformoreinformationonKey Club;Ihopethisarticlehelpedyougettoknowtheclubbetter!
TheABCUSDSocialwasanimportantkeyclub eventthatoccurredfrom1-4pmonSaturday, September8thhereinCerritosforasmallpriceof $3foranextremelyfunopportunity.
TheSocialwastheperfectbondingopportunity forpeoplefromdifferentschoolstoenjoy.The locationhadapooltable,lotsoffoodforsale, andanoutdoorswimmingpool.Ontopofthat, activitiessuchaswritinglettersandplaying charadeswereplannedaswell.Goingtothis Socialwasauniqueexperienceformetogetto interactwithdifferentclubs,andseethekindof worktheydoatourclub.

Besidesspendingtimeinthepool,orplaying games,WhitneyalsohadasuccessfulBobaand PopcornChickenfoodsaleinwhichwesoldout! Notonlyweretherestudentsfromclubsaround thedistrict,therewerealsoadultsfromthekiwanis whowereabletoprovideinsightfulsuggestions andmeaningfulconversations
Toenditall,itwassomeone’sbirthdayso everyoneatthesocialwasfortunateenoughto receivesomecupcakes.Overall,Iwouldhighly recommendallkeyclubmembersgothissocial asitistheperfectwaytoincreaseyour involvementintheclub,whilealsohavinga pleasanttimeyourself.

Therearemultiplereasonsthatcontributetothelistof benefitsyougainfromdoingservice.Firstofall,it portraysyourpassionandcommitmenttohelpingyour community.Byattendingtheseeventsandhelpingout ourfellowcommunitymembersweareabletoshowour selflessnessanddemonstrateoureffortsinbettering thosearoundus.
Moreover,itillustratesourleadershipandactivenessin helpingthoseinneed.Mostimportantly,forourWhitney students,itisagreatcontributiontohavewhen applyingforcolleges.Bycontributingbacktoour communitywedemonstrateouractivism,passion,and leadershipwhichalotofcollegeslookfor.
Furthermore,whenparticipatingintheseserviceactivitiesyou areabletobeconnectedtosomanyresourcesthatyoucan utilizelateron.Andbyattendingtheseeventsyouareableto createnewexperiencesandmemorieswhichcouldpotentially leadtoideasforyourcollegeessay.Thesearejustafewofthe manyreasonswhyservingourcommunityissoimportant.NOt onlydoesservingthecommunitybenefityoubutitbenefitsthose whoalsoneedthissupportandbeingabletogivebacktothem issomethingveryspecialandamajoremphasisinourclub.So keepitupSunnies!

Balancingextracurricularactivitieswithschoolcanbea challengingbutrewardingendeavor.Tostart,assessyour commitmentsbylistingallyouracademicand extracurricularactivities.Identifywhichonesareessential foryourpersonalgrowthandfuturegoals.Thiswillhelpyou prioritizeeffectively,allowingyoutofocusonwhattruly matters.Creatingastructuredscheduleusingaplanneror digitalcalendarcanalsoaidinmanagingyourtime.Make suretoblockouttimeforclasses,studysessions,and personaldowntime,ensuringthatyourcommitmentsdon’t overwhelmyou.
Effectivetimemanagementiscrucialinthisbalancingact. TechniqueslikethePomodoroTechniqueortime-blocking canhelpmaximizeproductivityduringstudysessions, enablingyoutocompleteassignmentsmoreefficiently. HeySuns!Ihopeyou’rehavinganamazingday!As FallRallySouth(FRS)seasonstartsupagain,Spirit Nightsarecomingupaswell!SpiritNightsare sessionswhereKeyClubberslearncheerstocompete againstotherdivisionsatFallRallySouthin November!Gethyped,becauseourfirstSpiritNightof theyearisinthefirstweekofOctober.
Lastyear,wewereabletomakeittoroundthree(last round)whichwassuperexcitingbecauseintheyear beforethatwedidn’tmakeitthatfar.FRSwasdefinitely aneventforthebooks,andIhighlyencourageany underclassmentogotoFRSthisyear–IwishIdidwhen Iwasafreshman! Recently,ourPresidentreleasedDivisionT-shirtorders. TheseshirtsarerequiredtoattendFRSsothatweasa divisioncanlookasspiritedanduniformaspossible! Plus,thedesignisreallycutesoyoushouldhighly considergettingone.

What’spoppin’,KeyClubbers!?Inthismonth’sarticle,Iwillbe tellingyouguysallaboutwhathappenedattheAugustDCM, knownastheSunnyOlympics!Thiseventtookplaceon Saturday,August31stat1:00-3:30PMinBartonPark,Anaheim. AttendeescametomakenewKeyClubfriendsfromacrossthe division,playavarietyofexcitingteamgames,buydifferent foodstosupporttheclubs,andmore!
Aftertheusualmeetingportionwasover,wefirstplayedagame called“StealtheBaby”,whichgotverychaoticandcompetitive, thenrefreshingwaterballoongamesthatendedinmoreofawater balloon“fight”.KeyClubbershadtheopportunitytohangoutand chillontheplaygroundwhentherewasdowntimeandinbetween activities.Therewasatimesetasideforfoodfundraisers,allowing sunniestomunchwhilehavingfunandchatting.Tofinishoffthis DCM,weplayedseveralroundsofanothercompetitivegame,“Grab theShirt”,whichwasquiteaggressivebutveryenthusiasticaswell!
Overall,thisDCMwasagreatwaytobondwithfellowKeyClub friendsandwassuchablast,Idefinitelyrecommendjoiningusnext timeandattendingasmanyDCMsasyoucanthisterm,especially ifyouhaveneverorrarelybeenbefore!Thanks,sunnies,forreading, andkeepshiningeveryday!
