WHAT’S POPPIN’ WHITNEY KEY CLUB!
My name is Ann Huang and I am beyond proud and honored to serve as Whitney Key Club’s President for the 2024-2025 term!
HI SUNNIES! Welcome back to a new school year, and thanks to everyone who signed up at Club Rush! If you haven’t signed up yet, it’s not too late! I am super pumped for all the amazing events we have planned this coming year, and I hope all of you guys are too! Please be on the lookout for upcoming service activities from our DOAs, and start getting those hours in through our in-person and online events. Also, please make sure to support us at our fundraisers and socials. We will be holding our FIRST general meeting of the year this month, so make sure to come out!
To those who joined Key Club for the first time, I genuinely have met so many new friends and made so many great memories throughout my years in Key Club. Key Club provides many service and leadership opportunities across all levels and gives back to its members through scholarships and recognition! Beyond this, Key Club also has super fun social activities, like our upcoming social, Fall Rally South, spirit nights, and DCMs, so make sure to come out to those! If you have questions at all, please feel free to reach out to me!

Astheholidayseasonapproaches,it’stim thankfulfor!Andinthisseasonofthanks,we andlooktowardswhatwecangivebacktoourcommunity.KeyClub activelypartakesinthisseasonofgivingback,hostingourannual OperationChristmasatWhitney!
SowhatisOperationChristmas?Well,atWhitney,itisatwoweeklong fundraiserandclothes/fooddrivewhereourschoolparticipatesinfinding differentitemsthattheycangivebackto6selectedfamiliesthatweare hosting.OperationChristmasisoneofthebiggestfundraisers/eventsheld oncampus,raisingthousandsofdollarsandhundredsofarticlesof clothing.
WhyshouldYOUdonate?Well,thesefamiliesareeachindividually strugglingwithsurviving,especiallyduringthecoldholidays.Ingivingback tothem,weareabletonotonlyprovidethenecessities,butaswellas givingthemgifts(toys,clothes,books,etc),sothateverykidcan experienceChristmas,andfeelthejoyofhavinggifts.Inparticipatingin OperationChristmas,andgivingaslittleas$1,weareabletomakea differenceinthesefamilies'lives!Somakesuretoparticipateandgive backduringtheseasonofthanks!
What’spoppin’KeyClubbers!Ihopeeveryonehada greatandrestfulFallBreak!Speakingoffall,inthis month’sarticleIwillBEEgoingoverarecapofKey Club’sBIGGEST,MOSTSPIRITEDeventoftheyear,Fall RallySouth! KeyClubbersfromacrossDivision30Southstarted offthedaybrightandearly,meetingat5:30AMto takebusestoSixFlagsMagicMountain.Oncewe arrived,wewereallfreetogooffandexplorethe park’svariousrides,foodanddrinkspots,and engageinsuperexcitingminispiritbattleswithFall RallySouthgoersfromotherdivisionswalking around.Ourdivision’sspiritsessionwasthefinalone oftheday,sowegottoendourtripwithaHUGE VICTORY,allduetotheoutstandingenergy, coordination,andsportsmanshipthatwebroughtto theauditorium!
IwaspartoftheSpiritCommitteeforthisyear’sFall Rally,helpingtoteachallthecheersforthe competitiontotheattendees,andwassoecstatic whenthejudgesannouncedourwinforthisyear!I amsogratefulIgottoBEEpartofthisteamthisyear, andproudofourdivisionfortheirhardworkandhigh spiritsduringthepastseveralweeksinwhichwehave hadsixtotalspiritnights!

Hisunnies!Asthewinterseasonapproaches, givingyourtimetovolunteerbecomesallthe morecrucial,especiallyasthedaysgetcolder. Somakesuretokeepup-to-dateonyour volunteerhourstohelppeopleoutduringthe holidayseason.Andeventhoughwinterbreakis onlyafewweeksaway,besuretohelpout wheneveryoucan,evenifit’sthroughonline events.CheckoutourDirectorofActivities’ monthlyemailstoseewhatKeyClubhasinstore foryouonline.

Christmas.Thiseventisoneofthelargesteventswehavein store,andinvolvesallhomeroomsdonatingincompetitionfora prize.Asastudent,youcanhelpyourhomeroomwinby donatingcashorcoins,ifable,oranynon-perishablefooditems thatyoumayhavelyingaroundathome.Besuretoaskyour parentsforanythingyoucandonate!Inadditiontodonating, youcanalsosignuptobeahomeroomrepresentativeand encourageyourclassmatestodonate.Youcanearnservice hoursandworkonascheduleddatethroughyourfirstfew periods!
Onlineeventsarealsoagreatwaytoearnservicehours. aresomeonethatisunabletoattendeventseverymonth candoonlineevents,whichareofteneasytocomplete.M theseeventsaretriviafocused,soanyonefondofcrossw puzzlesortriviaquestionscanearnservicehoursdoin somethingtheylove.
ComeJanuary,duringwinterbreak,KeyClubwillhostour annualLock-In,wherestudentsare“lockedin”theStudentUnion overbreak.Attendingthiseventearnsyou12wholeservicehours sobesurenottomissit!Lock-Inisagreattimetobondwith yourfellowsunnies,andalsoagreatwaytoearnservicehours duringbreak.

HellomyfellowKeyClubbers!Everyyear,Whitney KeyClubandJohnFKennedyKeyClubcollaborate duringlateNovember(andthisyear,early December)tohostaKiwanisgivingevent,where KeyClubberscanexpresstheirgratitudeforour wonderfulLaPalmaKiwanisgroupandthegreat thingstheydoforus.Here’stheunderlyingplanfor Kiwanisgivingfor2024,plannedbybothWhitney HighSchoolandJFKHighSchool.
TheeventwilltakeplacetentativelyonSaturday, December7th,2024,from12:00PMto2:30PMin CentralPark(7821WalkerSt,LaPalma,CA90623), wherewehaveabunchofactivitiesplanned.First,we plantohaveanicebreakerbetweenKeyClubbers andKiwanismembersbyhelpingthemgettoknow theKiwanismembersthroughconversations,and laterevenhavingapopquizonsomeinterestingfacts youlearnedaboutthem(obviously,thiswillhavea prizeforthewinningteam).Thisactivitywilltakeplace from12:10to12:20afteranarrivalandcheck-inperiod from12PMto12:10PM.
Next,wehavethefunpart.Potluck!Itshouldbe aroundlunchtimebynow,soKeyClubbersand Kiwanismembersalikearewelcometobring snacks,lunch,andothertypesoffoodtotheevent andeatwhilebonding.Theoptionsrangefrom cookies,chips,sodas,fruitplatters,candy,and variousothertypesofsnacks.Justbringsomething andenjoyitwitheveryone!Alongwiththis,wewill alsohaveabingogametohelpgettoknowmore abouttheKiwanisandtheworkthattheydo,while thewinnersreceivecandy,withanadditional serviceactivityofpaintingrockswithacrylicpaint.
Wealsowillholdspeechesandgiftceremoniesatthe endtocommemoratetheKiwanis’workandthat’sa wrap.HopeyouguyscomeforKiwanisgiving!
