About the Artists
Xiaosha Lin serves as the director of choral activities at Whitworth University. Known as a dynamic conductor with her efficient and engaging rehearsal approach, her choirs are often praised as “sang with strength, beauty, creativity, and such musicality.” Under her direction, the Whitworth Choir was named the winner of the 2024 American Prize in Choral Performance and was recently selected as one of the invited performing choirs for the 2026 NWACDA conference.
Lin’s conducting career is recognized by being selected as a conducting fellow in several prestigious programs in the United States, where she worked with Simon Carrington, Edith Copley, David Hayes, and Lucinda Carver; she was named a finalist for multiple conducting competitions. As a singer, she had performed regularly at the Kimmel Center, Carnegie Hall, and Lincoln Center under the batons of Yannick Nézet Séguin, Alan Gilbert, Simon Rattle, and Jane Glover. Lin is a sought-after conductor, adjudicator, and choral clinician in both the U.S. and China, where she was invited to workshops and clinics for all levels of choirs. As a scholar, her research presentation topics focus on rehearsal techniques, programming strategies, Asian choral music, and the discovery of unknown choral music by underrepresented composers.
Lin’s international background makes her an open-minded, sensitive, and well-rounded educator. She is passionate about building human connection and community through the art of music and is committed to motivating students to achieve the highest standard and best versions of themselves while providing an open and encouraging learning environment. Under her tutelage, her student was selected as a conducting fellow for the NWACDA Undergraduate Conducting Masterclass (2024).
Lin received her graduate degrees in Choral Conducting at Michigan State University, Westminster Choir College, and Hong Kong Baptist University.
Scott David Miller, tenor, is Director of Voice Studies and Professor of Music at Whitworth University. A versatile singing actor, his national and international performance credits cross multiple genres to include opera, oratorio, musical theatre and recital over a career spanning more than thirty years. A proponent of new works, Miller has premiered commissioned works by Mark Adamo, Brent Edstrom, Christopher Stanichar, and Randall Snyder. Operatic premiers Carlysle Floyd’s ColdSassyTreeand Libby Larsen’s EricHermannson’sSoul.
A nationally and internationally recognized pedagogue, in 2023 Dr. Miller was awarded an International Scholar Award from Mahidol University in Bangkok, Thailand. Miller served two terms on the National Board of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) as the Intermountain Region Governor from 20112015 and has presented and performed at a number of conferences here and abroad. Miller’s students have gone on to successful careers in education, performance, and many further their education at some of the most competitive and prestigious graduate programs in the United States.
He holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he was a Regents Scholar and a member of the honorary societies Pi Kappa Lambda, Phi Kappa Phi, Kappa Lambda, and the recipient of the Warren F. and Edith R. Day dissertation travel award for his collaboration with Mark Adamo.
Karissa Nakamura is a second-year student at Whitworth University, where she is pursuing degrees in mathematics and music. Originally from Richland, WA, Karissa began playing piano at age five and grew up performing in various local and regional competitions. Over the years, she came to appreciate the beauty and craftmanship of playing the piano, and currently, she continues to study piano with Dr. Ivana Cojbasic. Since coming to Whitworth, she has had numerous performance and collaborative experiences. Currently, Karissa plays with the Whitworth Choir, Whitworth Community Chorale, and Ponderosa Tenor Bass Choir. She also plays piano on the Chapel worship team.
Lizzie Krieg is a second-year student at Whitworth University where she is majoring in Piano Pedagogy. Originally from Sumas, Washington, she began studying piano at a young age and has since developed a love for teaching and performing music. Her experience includes work as a piano teacher, music teaching assistant, church pianist, and accompanist. At Whitworth, Lizzie studies with Judith Schoepflin, plays with the Forest Treble Choir and sings with the Whitworth Choir.

MUSIC AT WHITWORTH
The Whitworth University Music Department, accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music, provides superb training in music as well as a thorough introduction to this essential element of the liberal arts. Whitworth music majors have gone on to prestigious graduate schools, fulfilling performance careers and successful teaching positions. Also, many non-music majors participate in the university’s renowned touring ensembles and enroll in private lessons through the music department.
