This July, much loved painter Simeon Stafford celebrates his 70th birthday with a landmark Solo Exhibition. Simeon has lived and worked in Cornwall for thirty years, and this special collection captures the colour and vibrancy of our beaches in high summer, but also extends to many more of his favourite subjects: Cornish miners, fishing crews, scenes of central London, railway stations, sports events and still life paintings all feature, giving a broad survey of Simeon’s inspirations.

Simeon was born in Manchester in 1956, and as a child was introduced to painter L.S. Lowry who encouraged him to study art. He became a professional artist in his teens, exhibiting works that reflected the gritty northern landscape. In 1996 he moved to Cornwall where he met artists Terry Frost and Patrick Heron. Their influence, with that of Lowry’s, is evident in Simeon’s densely populated scenes and uplifting palette. He has exhibited at the Royal Academy and his work is in the art collection of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
