Steeped in history and heading from Lincolnshire all the way down to Northamptonshire the East Midlands is home to some of the most vibrant and picturesque golf courses in the UK.
As you may have read in recent issues of Your Golfer Magazine we have had a lot of focus on this part of the UK. So therefore, we have put together a special issue in order to profile some of our favorite courses that the East Midlands region has to offer.
We hope that this gives you a good idea of the courses in the region and helps towards choosing the best destination for your society.
Burton on Trent Golf Club
Since 1894
Known for its brewing history and industrial heritage, Burton on with its convenient central location
The central location makes Burton on Trent and the surrounding area a frequent destination for business visitors. But equally, the area provides access to some of the country’s major attractions and places to visit in close proximity. You don’t need to travel far to find Branston Water Park and Barton Marina, not forgetting of course the National Brewery Centre.
But there is one other gem that shouldn’t be missed when in the area. Burton on Trent Golf Club is a golf course steeped in history, with over 100 years of competitive play at its current historic location. It is set in 150 acres of woodland in a tranquil setting near Bretby on the outskirts of Burton on Trent. With immaculate fairways, fast multi-tiered greens and an 'Augusta Style' 18th hole, a visit to Burton on Trent Golf Club will be an enjoyable and memorable one, regardless of your finishing score.

An undulating golf course set in 150 acres of land, its tree lined fairways require accuracy from the tee. With three of the four par 3’s being uphill it makes them difficult holes. The fast sloping greens require a gentle touch. The 6579-yard course is one of the finest in the Midlands providing a stern test for golfers of all levels.
The mature course offers a serious challenge from beginner to even the lowest handicapper with accuracy, course management and shot selection being critical to maintain a low score.
Visitors are welcome in the clubhouse to enjoy food and drink. All dietary needs are catered for and a fine selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages awaits to quench your thirst whilst overlooking the picturesque 18th green. Visitors and societies are welcome with great packages available to suit all needs. The clubhouse is available for private functions and meeting and conferences can also be accommodated.
Highly experienced head professional Gary Stafford also runs the Pro-Shop. Gary and colleague Ben Jenks offer a custom fitting facility on Ping golf clubs and throughout the year Gary organises Ping and Cobra fitting days. The shop offers the new range of Puma, Footjoy and Ping range of Gents clothing and carries a large range of Ladies clothing from Glenmuir, Island Green and Puma.
Both Gary and Ben work on coaching with all levels of golfers and can design a programme to suit individual needs. They have specific coaching programmes and events for ladies and junior groups.
The Golf Club is a very popular choice for societies, welcoming groups of 16 and above on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. A wide choice of menu, excellent facilities and 18 holes or 27 holes of golf on the excellent Harry Colt designed course ensures everyone has a memorable day.
The County Course, Northamptonshire
Founded in 1909, Northamptonshire County Golf Club is ranked in the UK’s top 100 golf courses and is regularly used as an Open qualifying venue.
The Par 70 golf course measures 6,716 yards from the black tees and has a WHS slope rating of 126 complementing its challenging approaches and beautiful scenery. The Harry S. Colt designed County course located in Church Brampton ensures that good golf is suitably rewarded.
The club is home to some of the region’s best practice facilities and also boasts a fantastic short game area.
The Northamptonshire County clubhouse building has been extended and refurbished over the years. The club’s bar sits central to the clubhouse’s friendly and welcoming atmosphere with comfortable lounge spaces and a superbly appointed dining room seating up to 100 guests.
The ideal venue for drinks with friends and family pre and post round, the clubhouse also features a spacious veranda which is ideal for al fresco eating and drinking during the summer months, whilst enjoying stunning views across the golf course.
County Golf Club supports, encourages and welcomes societies and groups. Offering a range of packages that can be tailored to create the perfect customised golf day complete with excellent golf and dining options.

Kilworth Springs for a great day!
Founded in 1993 and overlooking the Avon Valley in South Leicestershire, Kilworth Springs Golf Club is the ideal venue for a social round of golf with friends or a meal and drinks. The club is a hub of activity that is enjoyed by members, visitors and their friends and families.
Easily accessed from all areas of the country, the 18 hole Kilworth Springs golf course has been superbly sculptured into a links style golf course. The front nine plays as a traditional links whilst the back nine adds water to the challenge.
The Par 72 Championship course measures 6,718 yards from the white tees and is well suited to beginners as well as the most accomplished of players. The course has matured quickly and is today regarded as one of the Midlands’ finest.
Set in rural Leicestershire, the course boasts stunning views of the surrounding rolling countryside and is one of the best draining golf course around, set on an oasis of sand and shale.
The Kilworth Springs clubhouse comprises of a comfortable bar space and the superblyappointed fountain room where guests can enjoy freshly prepared cuisine cooked by the club’s team of Head Chefs. Catering is provided through the week, from bar meals and afternoon teas to Sunday lunches and private functions. The club can cater for all manner of social occasion.
Kilworth Springs Golf Club is also recognised as a premier wedding venue in Leicestershire, with the golf course a fantastic backdrop to the big day.

The East Midlands is packed full of fantastic golf courses and is home to many hidden parkland gems. However, one course stands tall above all others due to its history, pedigree and golfing excellent.
Located in East Mansfield, Sherwood Forest Golf Club features an established heathland golf course, set alongside the pines, silver birch and oak trees of Clipstone Woods within the legendary Sherwood Forest.
One of the oldest and finest heathland golf courses in Great Britain and a regular feature in the Top 100 Courses, the course was initially designed by Harry Colt, but was later enhanced by legendary golf course architect, James Braid.
The par 70 golf course measures a whopping 6,806 yards from the championship tees and features no less than ninety eight bunkers as well as long carries over punishing swathes of heather. Sherwood Forest is not for the faint-hearted and represents a true test of golf for even the most accomplished of golfer.

The Sherwood Forest clubhouse is home to several spacious lounges and comfortable bar areas as well as a superbly-appointed restaurant which can seat up to 80 guests at any one time.
With stunning views overlooking the golf course and beyond to the majestic Nottinghamshire countryside, the club’s first class dining options are renowned in the region.
