A LETTER FROM OUR CREATIVE DIRECTOR An insight from designer Maria Grazia Chiuri Since the days of Christian Dior in the 1940s, the internationally renowned French fashion house Dior has been acclaimed for its timeless femininity, shown through their collections and creative material. After being named the brand’s first female creative director in 2016, Dior allowed me to find strength - as I first began to think of myself as a symbol of feminism. This is a feeling I try to evoke through my work, with the hope of empowering young women of the future. To develop this theme, I have drawn upon the brand’s history, specifically the classic female silhouettes employed by Christian Dior’s ‘New look’ from 1947. We are proud to have acclaimed actress and known activist Phoebe Tonkin, who embodies everything we stand for at Dior as our new ambassador.

T PHOEBE TONKIN FOR DIOR

“It’s really important to show

women who are not just offshoots of men. I would love to keep playing roles that challenge stereotypes of women…”

TONKIN

Phoebe Tonkin is an Australian actress and model. She feels strongly about voicing her opinion on politics, equal rights and climate change with her large social media following. There is a kind of elegant yet slightly rebellious side to Phoebe Tonkin, which is similar to the embodiment of a classical Dior woman. Her role in various TV shows since the mid 2000s has allowed her to build up a following of young adults. Outside of her career, she is well-known for her activism and stance on equal rights, feminism and sustainability. Exemplified through her work with a women’s right organization - Plan USA. Despite being the target of gender discrimination, she has never let it impede her success. This demonstrates her strength as a contemporary woman, mirrored in the themes evoked by Dior. She consciously limits the amount of clothes she buys, gravitating towards vintage pieces and style. Fleur de Silhouette is the perfect collection to showcase our partnership with Phoebe, as the garment exhibits an ethical and inimitable design.

First invented in the 1800’s, denim has come a long way from its intended use of workwear. Its constant recurrence in Dior’s collections is a result of its adaptable, utilitarian and nostalgia evoking ability that can be reimagined in countless forms. Fleur de Silhouette pays homage to denim at Dior which has been an iconic staple material, frequently used with Maria Grazia Chiuri creations. The durable material has become so ubiquitous that as a brand we are responding to the consumer demand for environmentally sound production processes. Sustainably sourced from 100% repurposed Dior denim, the innovative collection is a contemporary take on a staple fashion piece.
