A b o u t Christian Dior Christian Dior was a French Designer born in 1905, he was born into a wealthy family. He was originally trained up for the french foriegn service but in a financial crisis went on to do fashion illustrations for Fiagro Illustrae. He went on to become an assistant designer for Robert Piguet and later joined the house of Lucien Lelong.
The House of Dior The House of Dior was founded by Christian Dior in 1946. Christian Dior himself was born in 1905 in a small french town called Granville. His career started in doing illustrations for Fiagro Illustrae and later in 1946 went on to found high fashion couture brand Christian Dior. He started as a small brand with only 85 employees but a tonne of inspiration.Post War, Dior believed that it was time for a new look to emerge. This official ‘New Look’ was released in 1947 which featured structured silhouettes, cinched waists and soft shoulders.
His designs became an instant hit with him opening up his first store in New York in 1948. Dior took on a few assistants most notably Pierre Cadin and Yves Saint Laurent. Dior created many versions of the ‘New Look’ and they were loved by many. Unfortunately, Christian Dior passed away suddenly in 1957 leaving the fashion world in disarray. Despite his passing, Dior’s company continued to be a success with Yves Saint Laurent taking over as head owner and John Galliano as the Creative Director. Continuing after them was Bill Gayyten, Raf Simons and Maria Grazia Chiuri, all adding their own signature touch to Diors personal legacy.

C G Maria Grazia Chiuri Maria Grazia Chiuri began her journey with Dior in 2016, with her first show being the 2016 Ready to Wear collection. She is known for bold designs and strong views on feminism. She brought a new light to Dior whilst maintaining it’s sophisticated image. It is important to note that she is the first woman to be a creative director in this fashion house. Dior has always presented feminine outfits and silhouettes but Chiuri wanted to challenge the meaning of femininity. She is well known for her t-shirt
in the Spring 2017 Collection that reads ‘We Should All Be Feminists’. Chiuri isn’t interested in what femininity used to be but only how one can expand on the concept. She frequently explores concepts such as feminism, the active woman and deleves into the dior archives. These are concepts are key to understanding the depth and thought of her collections. Chiuri and ambassador Hunter Schafer go hand in hand.
Interviewer: Hey Hunter, Thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to sit down and have a chat with us Hunter: Thank you so much for having me today it’s an absolute honour I: First off, I just want to say how does it feel to collaborate with Dior on this personal level?
Chatting with Dior’s Denim Ambassador Hunter Schafer
H: This collaboration has been such a dream for me. I’ve walked the Runway for Dior previously in 2018 but being able to collaborate this close is just such a different experience, I am so grateful I: What is it that you wanted to express through this capsule collection? Was there an idea behind it the whole way? H: Yeah definetly, I think creating a collection like this I always wanted there to be a motif behind it that people could relate to. Personally I think this collection is all about a modern diverse take on Feminism. This was a topic that was talked about a lot as it can be seen a lot already in Maria Grazia Chiuri’s current and past collections. As a Transgender woman this topic was one that resonated personally so I felt I could add a lot and teach others a lot in a subtle way. I: Well, we are all excited for this collection to release. Thank you so much for having a chat with us today H: Thank you so much for having me!

DENIM

Denim is a fabric that is not always associated with Luxury but big brand Dior has gone beyond to change that. Denim was typically labelled a work-wear fabric but Dior changes the way buyers look at the fabric through styling and their unique designs. Dior has recently started to feature more denim in their womens collections further adding to Maria Grazia Chiuri’s views on the Active Woman. The way the denim garment is styled is intergral to the final look. For this capsule collection the Denim garment has been paired with a long a line satin skirt to mantain Diors luxurious image. It has further been paired with accessories such as small handbags and patterend blousee creating a unique and desired look.
