GREENHAVEN DRIVE: Residents share opinions in letters to the editor PAGE 5
Proposed Greenhaven Drive project features new updates BY ERIK SUCHY CONTRIBUTING WRITER
her mind to it, and she just finds a way to make it work, even if it's not the same as how we do it; she figures it out,” said her mom,
The city of Vadnais Heights has presented new proposals for the planned Greenhaven Drive project, including street modifications and parking changes. The project will narrow Greenhaven Drive from 36 to 26 feet to accommodate a proposed bituminous trail and stormwater management improvements. The project will also include full-depth pavement reclamation of Clearbrook Lane, Greendale Lane and Pondview Court, along with a 10-foot boulevard and trail on the north and east sides of Greenhaven Drive. New modifications to the proposed trail are being considered. These include a potential 5-foot boulevard along sections of the drive where no boulevard currently exists. Other ideas include a 10foot boulevard on one side of the road, featuring a trench with trees and wood chips, located 9 inches from the curb line. The trench would help improve drainage and water quality on the road, along with a proposed swale - a low-lying vegetated channel on the opposite side. “We’ll be replacing all of the concrete curb and gutter on the east and north sides of the road to

Planning Commission, city staff have mixed opinions on variance request BY SHANNON GRANHOLM MANAGING EDITOR
WHITE BEAR LAKE — In a rather rare occurrence, the Planning Commission’s recommendation for a variance differs from the recommendation of city staff. Twin Cities Transport & Recovery has requested both a CUP for a vehicle towing service at 4350 Centerville Road and a variance from the requirement that the first-floor area of the building on site be at least 5% of the total lot area of the property. explained that city staff and the Planning Commission agree on the CUP but differ on the variance request. The subject site is a flag lot located on the east side of Centerville Road and south of Highway 96. There is currently a 4,000-square-foot building on the site with three drive lanes and parking for approximately 16 vehicles. There is an easement agreement between the subject lot and the property to the north that allows the property to the north to use the driveway for vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
