‘Meadowville’ puts on big surprise for their neighbor BY SHANNON GRANHOLM EDITOR
CENTERVILLE — Neighbors who live in Parkview refer to their neighborhood as “Meadowville.” When a family in the neighborhood is going through tough times, they pull together to support one another. So while 8-year-old Isaac Lutz, son of Andy and Taunya Lutz, spent 40 days in the hospital, the neighbors did all they could to help the family through a difficult time. “We have really special neighbors,” Andy said. Taunya added, “I can’t even explain how lucky we are to live in the neighborhood that we do. From the moment he was hospitalized people were mowing our grass, buying groceries, watching our dog. It means a lot; it shows you how many people are thinking about you and care for you. We have seen so much support; we can’t thank them enough.” It all started after Isaac fell off a stool and one of the legs hit him in the groin area. On July 22 Isaac came down with a fever and was complaining of leg pain. His parents gave him some Tylenol and the

The Centennial School District inducted four members to the fourth class of the Hall of Fame Friday, Sept. 23. The Hall of Fame, which was established in 2013, honors alumni and individuals who have made a significant impact on Centennial schools. The Hall of Fame has two categories: Distinguished Alumni, which honors alumni who have demonstrated outstanding professional accomplishments and/or who have used their education to impact society, and Distinguished Service, which honors individuals who have a longstanding history of service to the district, and who have provided services of time and commitment to education. The 2016 inductees include Roger Crawford, Michelle Kline, Duane Carlson and Dick Lasch. All four inductees were invited to a Hall of Fame luncheon, pep fest and the homecoming half-time show Sept. 23. “It is an honor to recognize members of the Centennial community who have made an impact on our students and on society,” Superintendent Brian Dietz said. “Our recipients demon-

Just in time for National Fire Prevention Week Oct. 9-15, the Centennial Fire District (CFD) is now offering residents of Circle Pines and Centerville home safety surveys with the hope of preventing fi res and injuries. CFD received a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in August. The grant helps the district purchase new smoke alarms, pay for payroll costs and other equipment needed for the surveys. “We are trying to make people’s homes safer being that, that is where we get injured, die from fires or have people breaking in,” said CFD Chief Harlan Lundstrom. “The ultimate goal is to prevent fi res and injury.” In 2015, 1,345,500 fi res were reported in the U.S., a nearly 4 percent jump from 2014; there were 3,280 civilian fi re deaths, 15,700 civilian fi re injuries and $14.3 billion in property damage; a fi re department responded to a fi re every 23 seconds, according to the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA). CFD hopes to complete 300 or more home surveys by next August. The voluntary program allows residents to get feedback on the safety of their homes and gives residents suggestions on how to make the home environment safer. “It is not just fi re related. We look at any kind of life
