LINO LAKES — Two of the four potential sites for a new 1.5-million-gallon (1.5 MG) water tower have been eliminated and the city is now looking into additional sites. City Engineer Diane Hankee and Wastewater Specialist Greg Johnson of WSB & Associates presented the findings of geotechnical evaluations on the proposed four sites at the City Council's work session Feb. 5. The water tower siting study, completed last August, identified four potential sites for the proposed water tower. Site 1, which is owned by the school district, is at Birch Street and Timberwolf Trail; site 2, owned by the city, is at Birch Street and Centerville Road; site 3 is at Birch Street and 12th Avenue South, which is privately owned; and site 4 is at Birch Street and West Shadow Lake Drive, which is also owned by the school district. Volunteers create ‘magical’ prom for fellow students BY SHANNON GRANHOLM EDITOR
Since October Centennial High School students have been working hard to ensure that 84 invited guests have a great time at their prom. On Thursday, Feb. 8 special needs students in grades 8-12 and students from the Journey Program at Centennial Alternative Learning Center
(CALC) attended the “Magic Moana Prom” at St. Joseph of the Lakes Church in Lino Lakes. “Some juniors and seniors can go to the regular prom, but for some kids that's just not a possibility. We want everybody to be able to enjoy it,” said Elizabeth Eaton, student assistance program coordinator. “This isn't about who is cool, popular or hip, it's about students wanting to go and have fun with kids who have
different abilities than them.” The fi rst special needs prom was held in 2008 and was organized by paraprofessionals and special education teachers. The program didn't happen again until 2014 when special education teacher Barbara Culp approached Eaton to see if she would be interested in holding it again.
