ne older building in Squamish won’t be bulldozed and turned into expensive condos, after a collaboration spanning a few housing agencies. Tantalus Manor, a 40-unit apartment building in the Dentville area, was purchased by Housing Squamish and Hiy̓ ám̓ta Sḵwx̱w ú7mesh Housing Society (Hiy̓ ám̓ Housing), it was announced on Aug. 22. Hiy̓ ám̓ Housing is the not-for-profit housing arm of Sḵwx̱w ú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation). The purchase was made possible by the Rental Protection Fund, a provincial government initiative launched in January 2023 as part of the province’s Homes for People action plan, which includes a HOUSING: Continued on 5
