he District’s new $1.5 million protected multi-use pathway stretches west along the north side of Depot Road from Highway 99 to Government Road. Related to this work, about 100 area residents have signed a petition opposing the removal of residential street parking on Depot Road between the railway tracks and Government Road.
The work was completed on Aug. 28. The residents, who are speaking specifically about the changes west of the railroad tracks, have a laundry list of concerns about what has been done, including how the changes impact accessibility, housing density, multi-dwelling homes, secondary suites and carriage houses,
driveway access, realistic walking distances to alternative parking, and the capacity of surrounding streets to absorb displaced vehicles. “We support safe pedestrian and cycling infrastructure, while asking that the established residential street parking that has served this area for many years be restored and preserved.
Walking, cycling and established parking previously coexisted along this section of Depot Road, and we believe a balanced design remains possible,” reads the residents’ Aug. 30 letter submitted to the District and council with the
