T
wo men related to a downtown encampment were arrested in Squamish on May 14, according to Squamish RCMP. The news comes after a dramatic day in the community, when the RCMP had posted to social media in the morning that it was conducting an investigation and asked the public to avoid an area of downtown. Later, several law enforcement officers, some in tactical gear, were seen arresting a man as locals looked on. An RCMP release says that search of a tent at the site off the 37000 block of Third Avenue and Main Street found a cache of prohibited weapons, imitation firearms, live ammunition, drugs, and evidence of drug trafficking. Sea to Sky RCMP say that at about 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, officers with the RCMP’s General Duty, Crime Reduction Unit and Sea to Sky RCMP General Investigation Section executed the search warrant on a tent within the encampment behind the Under One Roof shelter and housing facility.
