he dirt road used to be dotted with vehicles. Now it’s quiet. The District of Squamish (DOS) ordered the owners to clear out by Aug. 14. The gravel portion of Bailey Street, a road downtown that leads into the Squamish Estuary, had become a popular location for vehicle dwellers to park overnight. In a Facebook post Aug. 13, and with a sign on Bailey Street in downtown Squamish, the District announced the decision, saying the

move follows a provincial directive to ban off road vehicles on Crown land. “Due to the current and escalating wildfire risk to the community, unauthorized vehicle access to the estuary via Bailey Street will be

closed. … All vehicles currently within the closure area are asked to leave the unpaved portion of Bailey Street immediately. Barriers will be installed within the next 24 hours,” reads the post.
