SCOOPS!

A delicious new addition has arrived on the Monterey food scene with the opening of Scoops Ice Cream Parlor on Munras Avenue The shop held its soft opening on November 8 and is now officially serving customers. Early visitors describe it as a bright, familyfriendly spot offering rich, flavorful ice cream perfect for an afternoon treat or post-dinner stop Scoops announced its opening on social media, inviting Monterey locals to come sample “ some of the best ice cream in the Monterey Bay.” While the full menu hasn’t been widely published yet, the shop appears to offer a selection of classic cones, cups, and specialty creations. Its location near downtown Monterey makes it an easy stop for both residents and tourists exploring the area With its welcoming atmosphere and promising early buzz, Scoops is shaping up to be a sweet new highlight on the Peninsula. I want to share with you all one of our secret family dishes I grew up with! Mash 4 cups of cooked sweet potatoes and mix in 1 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup melted butter, 2 beaten eggs, 1 teaspoon vanilla, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg, and 1/2 teaspoon salt, then spread the mixture into a buttered casserole dish. On one half, top with mini marshmallows, and on the other half, sprinkle a blend of 1/2 cup chopped pecans, 2 tablespoons melted butter, and 2 tablespoons brown sugar. Bake at 350°F for 25–30 minutes until the marshmallows are perfectly golden and the pecan topping is crisp, then let it cool slightly before serving and enjoy this sweet-and-crunchy holiday masterpiece! I hope you enjoy it!
