GREAT NEWS
The Atlin Volunteer Fire Department is thrilled to unveil the newest addition to our fleet a 2004 GMC C8500 pumper apparatus!
This upgrade takes us from our hard-working 1989 engine to a modern 2004 unit, marking a huge leap forward for our department.
The new truck means safer, more efficient, and more comfortable operations for our firefighters as we continue protecting our community.

A heartfelt thank-you goes out to our mutual aid partners in the Yukon, the Fire Marshal's Office, to Chief Reilly for his efforts and support, and to Capt. Berry and Chief Zakus for making the long drive to bring our new truck home.

On Saturday September 20, the Atlin Runners Team successfully participated in the Yukon Cross Country Championships.
In the girls' U9 (under 9 years old) category, Shelby won the 1 km race in 4:14 min, an excellent time. Faith came in fourth with a time of 5:23 min, an outstanding time for Faith as this was her first time participating in a competition.
Jacob finished sixth in the boys' U9 category over a distance of 1 km with a time of 5:12 min, a fantastic time for a six-year-old.
In the girls' U12 category over a distance of 2 km, Darina came seventh in 11:44 min and Miles finished eleventh with a time of 12:20 min.
Eiger and Jayden participated in this event for the first time in the U14 category over a distance of 3 km. Jayden finished eighth with a time of 22:50 min and Eiger ninth with a time of 24:39. They had worked hard during training to increase their endurance, and this yielded good results.
Abi ran the 4 km in the girls' U16 category and finished second with a time of 20:28 min. With an average time of 5:07 min per kilometre, this is a good result.
A big compliment to the Running Team. For the beginners, it was a good experience to learn the right speed over a certain distance, and for the experienced runners, it was a reminder that regular training is a prerequisite for maintaining or improving their level.
Well done, Team! See you next training, Bart

Part 2. My Adanac Ruby Creek Molybdenite Story, 1966 to Present Wolframite is the primary tungsten ore, consisting of iron-manganese tungstate (Fe,Mn)WO₄. It typically appears as black to reddish-brown, submetallic to metallic-lustered crystals, and found in high-temperature quartz veins associated with granite. Tungsten, a strategically important metal used in tools, filaments for light bulbs, and other hard alloys, also used in the manufacturing of X-ray tubes. In 1903, tungsten showings were first reported on Boulder Creek, but received minimal exploration work until 1939 to 1943, when at the top of Boulder Creek, the “Black Diamond Adit” was driven and wolframite mined by prospector Norman Fisher of Atlin hoping to support Canada’s WW2 tungsten demands.
During the Spring 1968, we continued staking on Ruby Creek for molybdenum as well as wolframite for Canadian Johns-Manville, (CJM) During June-September 1968 CJM sent up a team of geologists-geochemists as support. We continued staking and evaluating the property into the 1970s, expanding mineral claims to cover Boulder Creek, Birch Creek, as well as Ruby. In the Interim, Jennifer Hansen who was a self-trained seamstress and knitter extraordinaire formed an Atlin Ladies club, called “THE ATLIN LADIES STITCH AND BITCH SAWING CLUB”, which took up her time. I therefore resorted to hire the Atlin Legend wild life hunter and prospector Tom Connolly to help staking. Atlinites Rick Smith ,Gary Thoma and TRTFN Doug, Melvin and Bryan Jack were hired as geochemical samplers, whenever they were available.
Incidents happened during these times. Lawyers and surveyors were hired to support CJM in a claim dispute. Senior surveyor Dave Underhill flew up from Vancouver to help. Dave enjoyed surveying on Ruby Creek so much he decided to open an office in Whitehorse, which operates there to this day. Dave and his surveyor assistant were staying in the Atlin Kootenay Hotel when it caught fire and burnt down to the ground in minutes on a very cold winter night in November 1969. Luckily, the Goodwin Family who were also staying there had a dog called “Rowdy” who woke Carrol Goodwin, who set off the alarm. All 12 guests managed to escape alive, some by jumping out of windows in their night clothes into the snow. Later, “Rowdy” received a BC-medal award for waking Carrol and saving the lives of all guests.
I remember the following incident was serious at the time, and afterwards laughable, as it is now. On Boulder Creek, just after staking a string of mineral claims, a US professor associated with Juneau Ice Field Research base in Atlin, when hiking decided he wanted one of my claim posts with its claim tags as souvenir for his basement den-room back in the US. In Atlin, Bill Wallis saw the missing claim post, in the professor’s pick-up when driving around town. Moving a BC-mineral Claim post was then a criminal offence. I reported this incident to the Atlin Mining Agent, Mr. Lancaster, who immediately notified Government authorities in Victoria, including the RCMP. The professor was caught, reprimanded, the claim post confiscated days later by authorities when crossing Canada-US border into Washington State. No charges were pressed.
Prospector Ed Mueller of Adanac Mining and Exploration Ltd had staked 8 mineral claims in 1966 across the major part of the molybdenum ore body. CJM surrounded those 8 claims on all sides except to the north, and optioned part of their claims to Ed’s company, forming a joint venture. Between 1969 to 1973 the joint venture property was optioned and drilled separately by Kerr Addison, Climax, and Placer Development Corp. Later other companies and groups staked and took over the property Drilling has continued until recent times and counting, including for copper and gold. The end result so far the Ruby Creek property has been evaluated to host Measured and Indicated ore at 433,000,000 pounds molybdenite and Inferred ore at 44,000,000 pounds of molybdenite. At current price of approximate $30/pound the value of “in the ground” molybdenite on Ruby Creek could be said to have a current market value of $13 Billion US dollars, or $16.6 Billion Canadian.
“Children Deserve Better”
A huge number of moms and dads find themselves caring for children without a partner by their side more often in this modern age.
They find it hard to believe that a marriage made in heaven could turn sour and implode causing children to pay dearly.
If the truth could be revealed some blame would rest on them both, although it’s often one parent causing the family more harm.
There’s no guarantee that parents can show concern for each other, but children will feel more secure when parents respect each other.
There should be a full guarantee that the needs of their children will come ahead of their needs because children deserve better in order for them to thrive.
