NEWSLETTER March 2017 What’s New? As some of you may be aware, the Yukon Chamber of Commerce has, over the last year, been in pursuit of funding to add a research analyst position to our chamber staff. I’m very pleased to be able to share with you that CanNor has approved funding for this position for the fiscal year beginning April 1, 2017. We have run advertisements for the position and will be interviewing candidates next week. With the perspective of more than four years as the president, it is extraordinarily encouraging to me that we received more than 15 applications for the position. I hope and think that this level of response reflects the successes that the Chamber has built on over the last four years; in partnership with our members and the five community chambers of commerce as well as relationships that we have formed with organizations such as TIA Yukon, the Yukon Chamber of Mines, the Yukon First Nations Chamber of Commerce, the Yukon Agricultural Association, Tech Yukon and the Association of Yukon Communities. This new research analyst resource will allow the Chamber to focus in more detail on issues and policies that impact the Yukon business community. They will include but will not be not limited to: Energy Transportation and infrastructure Procurement and the Agreement on Internal Trade (AIT) Housing, and Employee attraction, development, and retention. As well this new resource will be available to help backstop and provide additional horsepower for the five community chambers of commerce, with the objective of identifying and bringing forward to the Yukon chamber community and municipal issues that impact the individual and multiple communities across the Yukon. I’m excited by the addition of this new resource for both YCC and the chamber movement as a whole across the territory. We look forward to continuing to serve the business community of the Yukon, and feel that we will be better equipped to do so with the addition of this new position. The Research Analysis will be reaching out to the Yukon business community and the five community chambers of commerce rapidly upon taking on the role. Contact information as well as their background and experience will be shared with you as soon as we’ve identified and hired our new team member. Stand by for further news!
