South Downs Leisure introduces PT offer to support recovery SOUTH Downs Leisure has partnered with YOUR Personal Training (YPT) to support its business development and recovery after a review identified service areas that could perform better. The leisure group, which operates sport and leisure facilities across the South coast in Sussex, aims to create a dynamic and exciting personal training service that is accessible and deliverable across four of its sites. The leisure group, which previously had an unthriving ‘in-house’ PT model across some clubs, is looking to YPT to completely reboot its PT offer. Aaron McCulloch, Managing Director, YOUR Personal Training, says: “South Downs previous PT offer, wasn’t properly functioning, their PT service was unfortunately not widely available. We will be completely restartingSouth Downs PT offer across a number of its gyms. “We will be providing South Downs with up to 13 YPT personal trainers across its clubs, this offers local PT’s the opportunity to build a long term, successful and sustainable business.” Tom Austin, Sales and Marketing
Director, South Downs Leisure says: “South Downs Leisure is committed to improving the health and wellbeing of its members, and firmly believes this partnership reflects these principles, as it will mean our members now have access to bespoke training and education on exercise and nutrition to help them reach their specific goals and improve their health. “We chose YOUR Personal Training as our partner based on testimonials, feedback from other operators and the professional integrity the YPT team brings to every meeting and consultation. Their values and ethos reflect our own, and together we plan to completely overhaul our PT offer.” Aaron says: “Our team will deliver a professional, credible and friendly service to the customers of South Downs Leisure, and help support South Downs’ collective mission and objectives. Every operator within the leisure industry and each of its customers can benefit from expert and accessible 1-2-1 coaching.”

Health over aesthetics ... ALL signs are pointing towards the general public becoming more health conscious than at any other time. Many industry experts are predicting a surge in potential new clients for PT’s as people look to become more informed on improving their health and the role of body composition in health and immunity couldn’t be more directly linked. In a society more health aware than ever following the Covid:19 pandemic, boosting their immune system will be high on many people’s agenda. Awakening the public to the role body composition plays in this will be a key element to the success of your training and nutrition plans, adding great value to
your packages. Many of the negative effects fat has on health are well known, in relation to this there is compelling evidence that both overnutrition and undernutrition negatively interfere with the immune system. The ability to monitor body composition and track the changes your interventions as a health and fitness professional have on your clients will be critical to your retention and add real value to your personal offering. As potentially more emphasis is taken on our health and less on aesthetics, what can you do to help your clients with this journey? By incorporating health assessments into your packages this supports and
alleviates pressure from the NHS, especially with the prevalence of exercise being prescribed as medicine. I fully expect we will see more and more clinicians utilising exercise and PT’s that prioritise ‘health’ and have the knowledge and equipment to support members on this journey. There has never been a better time to begin working with Tanita and demonstrate to your members you are taking their health seriously. Track changes in body fat and muscle mass, demonstrating to each and every member the progress they are making. Simon Wilkinson Tanita UK Sport & Fitness Lead

WORKOUT WEEKLY
Matrix Fitness transforms gym into world-class training facility CARDIFF Rugby are thrilled to have partnered with Matrix Fitness to support the design, rebrand and equipment installation of their new world-class training facility. The Matrix Performance Gym is the first phase in the exciting development of the club’s new High Performance and Health Centre at Pentwyn. Cardiff Director of Rugby, Dai Young said: “This is a brand-new partnership for us, but having worked with Matrix in previous roles, I have first-hand experience of their market-leading equipment, the breadth and choice they offer and they have always been a pleasure to work with. “Their standards are always high and they are hugely collaborative. This is a great boost for us as a club and will ensure we have a first-class facility, which will ultimately help drive standards and performances throughout our environment.” The new training facility will welcome the complete Matrix Fitness portfolio of equipment but with a primary focus on strength training, whilst also including cardiovascular items and a selection of indoor bikes to open a spin studio to promote versatility and offer a different training dynamic. Cardiff Rugby Head of Physical Performance, Trystan Bevan maintains a strong
working partnership with Matrix and believes it will give the squad the tools and elite environment to take performance to the next level. Bevan said: “The new Matrix equipment will mostly be used within our strength and conditioning sessions but we will also use the bikes, spin studio, CV equipment and climb mills to introduce some more ‘off-feet’, low impact training which is essential for the team. “Their equipment is second to none and this substantial partnership firmly puts us back in the leading pack when it comes to gym facilities. That will have an enormous impact as we continue to build under Dai Young.” Matrix also collaborated with the Cardiff Rugby team on design and layout of the new gym, showcasing the club’s rich history, recent achievements and potential for the future. Bevan added: “Their branding has been phenomenal, from the gym design and layout fit for elite performers through to visuals and optics that are just as important as the equipment to create a motivational environment. “Matrix Fitness have been really accommodating throughout the course of the partnership and have always catered exactly to our needs. Their involvement allows us to train at a higher level. It’s as simple as that.”
Julian Taylor, Marketing Director at Matrix Fitness said: “Fitness is obviously key to the success of any sporting team so we’re hopeful that the new facility will provide Cardiff Rugby with a strong platform to continue to succeed. “We’re proud to partner with a club that prides itself on always striving to be better and hope that they’re new, worldclass facility will give them the opportunity to do just that.” Cardiff Rugby CEO, Richard Holland added: “We are absolutely delighted to agree this partnership with Matrix Fitness, who are the fastest growing
commercial fitness brand in the world, and our sincere gratitude goes to Julian and his team. “Matrix is an ever-expanding leader in the industry and their expertise and values align perfectly with our long-term goals and vision. “They have been hugely impressive so far and we look forward to building a long and mutually beneficial relationship.” To find out more about Cardiff Rugby visit www.cardiffrugby.wales or to learn about how Matrix Fitness can transform your fitness experience visit www.matrixfitness.com/en
