Megan Bradley

MEGAN MEGAN BRADLEY, AGE 32, MARKETING MANAGER, HOME FRANCHISE CONCEPTS – BUDGET BLINDS, IRVINE, CALIFORNIA Megan Bradley is a marketing manager who specializes in turning messy, complicated marketing challenges into clear, actionable strategies that help franchise owners grow faster. With experience across marketing, sales, operations and customer success, she has worked with leading fitness brands and understands firsthand what it takes to support business owners from every angle. Passionate about making marketing feel less overwhelming and more empowering, Megan blends education, strategy and real-world practicality to help franchisees market and grow with confidence.

What inspires you most in your work right now, and how does that influence your approach to design or business?

What role do you see your generation playing in shaping the future of the window covering industry?

I’m most inspired by seeing franchisees succeed, from small daily wins to major milestones. It’s a reminder of the effort it takes to build a successful business, and being even a small part of that journey is an honor. That inspiration drives me to approach my work with both strategy and heart. Every initiative is intentional, practical and franchisee-focused, designed to feel personal yet professional—helping make their work easier, their marketing stronger and their businesses more successful.

Our generation is curious, inventive and driven to challenge the status quo. We look at what already exists and imagine how it can be improved or reimagined entirely. By embracing experimentation and being willing to take risks, we bring fresh energy and new perspectives to the industry. With creativity and adaptability, we have the ability to push boundaries, spark meaningful innovation and help shape the future of the window covering industry in impactful and lasting ways.

What opportunities do you think the industry should be paying more attention to right now?

What’s one lesson or piece of advice that’s guided your success so far?

The window covering industry has a major opportunity to focus on solutions that make life easier for customers while driving profitability for business owners. Smart, motorized products offer convenience, energy efficiency and enhanced comfort, while eco-friendly materials and designforward options add lasting value. For businesses, these solutions build trust and increase revenue when paired with excellent service. Brands that combine smart technology, strong design and seamless customer experiences will be best positioned for long-term growth and market leadership.

One of the most important lessons guiding my success is staying open to opportunity. I never expected to build a career in window treatments after years in the fitness industry, but saying yes to a simple LinkedIn message led to one of the most rewarding opportunities of my career. That experience taught me the value of remaining curious, adaptable and willing to embrace unexpected paths that can lead to meaningful growth.

BRUNO BRUNO DE MICHELI, AGE 29, PRESIDENT BOOST BLINDS, TORONTO, ONTARIO Bruno De Micheli is the founder and lead consultant of Boost Blinds, a boutique Canadian window treatment firm specializing in luxury drapery, automation and design-forward shading solutions. With over a decade of hands-on industry experience, Bruno blends technical expertise with elevated interior design. He partners with local Canadian manufacturers to deliver custom, high-quality solutions for residential and commercial projects. Known for thoughtful design and precision execution, Bruno takes a client-first approach and is recognized across the GTA for his craftsmanship, innovation and exceptional service.

What inspires you most in your work right now, and how does that influence your approach to design or business?

What role do you see your generation playing in shaping the future of the window covering industry?

I’m most inspired right now by the shift toward natural materials, automation and intentional design. Clients want spaces that feel calm, functional and timeless, which motivates me to blend craftsmanship with technology. From motorized sheers to linen drapery and recessed shading, I focus on solutions that elevate both aesthetics and everyday living. This inspiration keeps me hands-on and detail-driven, reinforces transparency and client education, and deepens my commitment to high-quality, Canadian-made products designed for how people live today.

My generation is reshaping the industry by blending design, automation and authenticity. We embrace technologies like low-voltage motorization, cleaner architectural solutions and sustainable, locally made products. We also communicate differently by educating clients through social media, offering transparent pricing and focusing on service-driven experiences rather than traditional sales tactics. By prioritizing user experience, long-term value and craftsmanship, we are pushing the industry toward smarter homes, better-informed clients and more elevated, personalized spaces.

What opportunities do you think the industry should be paying more attention to right now?

What’s one lesson or piece of advice that’s guided your success so far?

The industry should focus more on the intersection of automation, architecture and design. Recessed solutions, low-voltage wiring and seamless smart home integration are quickly becoming standard expectations, not upgrades. There is also a strong opportunity in educating consumers on the value of high-quality, locally made products compared to mass-market options. As natural materials and warm interiors continue to trend, pairing craftsmanship with technology will elevate window coverings. Companies that embrace and clearly communicate this shift will help shape the industry’s future.

The biggest lesson guiding my success is choosing honesty and long-term trust over short-term wins. True growth comes from staying curious and never stopping the learning process. I continuously study new systems, fabrics and installation methods, using the wealth of quality resources available today. Just as important is surrounding yourself with skilled professionals and learning from the best in the industry. That commitment to transparency, continuous improvement and collaboration has been the foundation of my success.

Ryan Engdahl

RYAN RYAN ENGDAHL, AGE 35, PRESIDENT, CEO APOLLO DRAPERIES, CINCINNATI, OHIO Ryan Engdahl is the president, CEO and third-generation owner of Apollo Draperies, Cincinnati’s premier destination for custom window treatments. Leading the family business alongside his wife, Ashley, Ryan continues a legacy of exceptional craftsmanship and service established in 1973. A design consultant and expert installer, his deep product knowledge is rooted in a lifetime in the industry. Known as a regional leader in motorization and home automation, Ryan partners closely with designers, builders and the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky community.

What inspires you most in your work right now, and how does that influence your approach to design or business?

What role do you see your generation playing in shaping the future of the window covering industry?

What inspires me most right now is advancing a 50year family legacy while embracing rapid technological change. I’m motivated by proving that old-world craftsmanship can thrive in today’s smart home environment. No two projects are the same, and each demands a thoughtful, customengineered solution. This drives our strategy to protect uncompromising quality while pursuing innovation. By investing in skilled people and modern technology, we position ourselves as essential partners delivering precision, performance and timeless craftsmanship for today’s homes.

Our generation plays a critical role as integrators, blending master craftsmanship with the demands of the modern smart home. We are moving the industry beyond static aesthetics toward dynamic, connected systems by becoming experts in automation, efficiency and technology integration. We specialize in engineered solutions for complex projects that mass-market options cannot address, from arches to multistory installations. By leading with specialized expertise, we are redefining high-end window coverings as essential, long-term components of a home’s technology and design.

What opportunities do you think the industry should be paying more attention to right now?

What’s one lesson or piece of advice that’s guided your success so far?

The industry should focus on two key opportunities: fusing design with energy efficiency and elevating specialized execution. Window coverings must deliver both beauty and measurable performance by integrating design with smart automation, sensors and data-driven shading solutions. At the same time, growing architectural complexity increases the importance of precise execution. Investing in advanced designer and installer training ensures custom solutions are delivered flawlessly. This focus on performance-driven design and certified expertise strengthens the industry’s value and differentiates it from mass-market alternatives.

The most valuable advice guiding my success is to remain a perpetual student in every aspect of the business. In an industry rooted in traditional craftsmanship, complacency is the greatest threat to longevity. Continuous learning allows us to adapt to new design trends, evolving technology and changing business practices. By actively seeking knowledge, we refine our craftsmanship, improve installation techniques and elevate the client experience. Success is not about knowing everything today, but about learning faster than the industry evolves.

JAMIE JAMIE FRIEDLANDER, AGE 36, CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER INSOLROLL WINDOW SHADING SYSTEMS, LOUISVILLE, COLORADO Jamie Friedlander is the Chief Operating Officer at Insolroll Window Shading Systems and serves on the Board of Directors for both Insolroll and Innovative Openings where he blends strategic leadership with a deep respect for the company's founding values A graduate of the University of Oregon with a degree in business administration, Jamie brings more than a decade of industry experience. Inspired by his father, Dave, and partner Rick Pease, he is committed to advancing a legacy of integrity, craftsmanship and employee care while fostering collaboration, embracing innovation and keeping people at the center of every decision.

What inspires you most in your work right now, and how does that influence your approach to design or business?

What role do you see your generation playing in shaping the future of the window covering industry?

I’m continually inspired by my dad, Dave Friedlander, and his business partner, Rick Pease, who built our company through decades of hard work, integrity and genuine care for employees and customers. Watching them lead with consistency, respect and dedication has shaped how I approach both business and leadership. Their example reminds me that success is not just about growth, but about building something meaningful and lasting, and every decision I make is guided by honoring and advancing their legacy.

My generation brings a unique blend of innovation, adaptability and purpose-driven thinking to the window covering industry. We value collaboration, diversity and flexibility in the workplace, which improves both efficiency and overall well-being. Our ability to quickly adapt to new technology allows us to challenge outdated systems and develop smarter, more creative solutions. By pairing fresh perspectives with a commitment to continuous improvement, we are driving meaningful growth and long-term innovation across the industry.

What opportunities do you think the industry should be paying more attention to right now?

What’s one lesson or piece of advice that’s guided your success so far?

The rapid growth of AI presents an important opportunity for the industry to improve efficiency while reinforcing the value of people. While automation can enhance accuracy and streamline operations, it should not replace skilled professionals, especially in service-driven businesses. Instead, AI can support teams by handling repetitive tasks and freeing employees to focus on craftsmanship, problem-solving and customer care. The strongest companies will use technology to empower their people, not replace them, and maintain the human connection that defines great service.

One of the most valuable lessons guiding my success is understanding that while customers may not always be right, they are always deserving of respect. This perspective helps shape thoughtful, relationship-driven decisions, especially in challenging situations. Treating customers with patience, empathy and understanding builds trust and encourages long-term loyalty. At its core, this lesson reflects a simple principle: treat others the way you would want to be treated. Keeping that mindset ensures professionalism, perspective and continued growth in business.

Natalie Lockwood

NATALIE

NATALIE LOCKWOOD, AGE 30, SALES & MARKETING MANAGER INNOVATIVE OPENINGS, LOUISVILLE, COLORADO Natalie Lockwood is the marketing manager at Innovative Openings and serves on the board of directors for both Innovative Openings and Insolroll. She began her marketing career as an intern at Insolroll while earning her business marketing degree from San Diego State University. After six years in technology sales, Natalie returned in 2023 with a strategic, data-driven approach. She led the launch of the e-commerce platform The Custom Shade and now oversees all marketing initiatives, driving growth, engagement and brand visibility.

What inspires you most in your work right now, and how does that influence your approach to design or business?

What role do you see your generation playing in shaping the future of the window covering industry?

I’m inspired by how window coverings have evolved from functional products into essential design elements that enhance comfort, energy efficiency and lifestyle. At Innovative Openings, I see how smart shading, outdoor solutions and premium materials are reshaping expectations. That perspective drives my approach to marketing, with a strong focus on education and storytelling. I aim to clearly communicate the value behind each product and help homeowners and designers understand how it supports a modern, connected home.

Our generation is bringing fresh energy and a digital-first mindset to the window covering industry. We embrace e-commerce, automation and smart home integration as essential parts of the customer experience. Transparency, sustainability and storytelling guide how we market, sell and design products. By blending innovation with the craftsmanship that built this industry, we are helping it evolve to meet the expectations of modern homeowners while honoring the legacy that defines it.

What opportunities do you think the industry should be paying more attention to right now?

What’s one lesson or piece of advice that’s guided your success so far?

The industry should pay closer attention to shifting consumer expectations around convenience, sustainability and smart home integration. There is a strong opportunity to educate customers on automated shading, energy efficiency and outdoor living solutions. E-commerce and digital tools also remain underutilized. By improving online experiences and providing clear, transparent product education, the industry can better meet modern homeowners where they are and position window coverings as both functional and designforward solutions.

One piece of advice that’s guided me is: “Stay curious and never stop learning.” Whether I’m diving into smart home technology, exploring consumer behavior or refining our brand strategy, I’ve found that curiosity leads to innovation. It’s helped me ask better questions, embrace change and connect more deeply with both our customers and our team. In an ever-evolving industry like window coverings, staying curious keeps us ahead and ensures we’re always adding value.

JESSICA JESSICA MCGUIRE, AGE 39, INTERIOR DESIGNER FLAIR INTERIORS, KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN Jessica McGuire is the owner and president of Flair Interiors, a family-owned window treatment and design business celebrating its 40th year. As a second-generation leader, she proudly continues the company’s legacy alongside her husband, Adam, blending decades of experience with a fresh, modern approach to design. Known for incorporating color, texture, and pattern while working across a range of design styles, Jessica is passionate about helping clients achieve their design goals and turning their visions into reality. Under her leadership, Flair Interiors remains committed to thoughtful craftsmanship, strong client relationships, and creating spaces that stand the test of time.

What inspires you most in your work right now, and how does that influence your approach to design or business?

What role do you see your generation playing in shaping the future of the window covering industry?

I find inspiration in something new every day, which keeps my design approach fresh and flexible. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions or forcing a specific style. Instead, I listen closely to my clients, their needs, personal taste and the overall feel of their home, and use those elements to create spaces that are uniquely theirs. No two projects are ever the same, and that variety is what I love most about my work.

Our generation is shaping the future of the window treatment industry through a focus on individuality, sustainability and technology. We are making motorization the standard, not the exception. Clients want convenience, energy efficiency and designs that fit seamlessly into their lifestyle. For me, it’s exciting to blend technology with style, creating spaces that are both beautiful and functional.

What opportunities do you think the industry should be paying more attention to right now?

What’s one lesson or piece of advice that’s guided your success so far?

I believe the window treatment industry should prioritize innovation and a commitment to quality. This means developing products that are both stylish and functional, maintaining consistent craftsmanship, making motorized solutions more affordable and introducing more fashion-forward designs and materials.

One lesson that has always guided me is to truly listen— to my clients, their needs and what they are trying to achieve in the spaces I am designing. I try to never make assumptions about what someone wants or what they can afford. When you focus on understanding people and their vision, the best solutions flow naturally, and the results feel both personal and timeless.

Ben & Adam MacKenzie

BEN & ADAM BEN AND ADAM MACKENZIE, AGE 32, OWNERS NATIONAL COMMERCIAL SHADING SOLUTIONS, VEIL | ENGINEERED SHADING, & BUDGET BLINDS OMAHA, NE, NASHVILLE, TN, DES MOINES, IA, & MINNEAPOLIS, MN Ben MacKenzie, PE, and Adam MacKenzie, PE, are the founders of Veil Engineering and partners in National Commercial Shading Solutions, as well as the owners of Budget Blinds franchises. After earning professional licensure and working as mechanical (Ben) and electrical (Adam) engineers, they entered the window treatment industry after working on a research grant that identified a need for detailed design/coordination in complex shading systems. Their suite of businesses is unique in this industry, as they range from true roller shade system design and engineering to commercial contracting, as well as residential sales.

What inspires you most in your work right now, and how does that influence your approach to design or business?

What role do you see your generation playing in shaping the future of the window covering industry?

We’re uniquely positioned with a commercial dealer, an engineering firm and multiple residential businesses, allowing us to approach the industry with a true “blank slate” mindset. Our engineering firm also enables a design-build approach when projects demand it. As complexity increases, so does our team’s value. With backgrounds as licensed engineers in the building design industry, we’ve witnessed firsthand how the industry has evolved. Growing interconnected businesses rooted in technical expertise has been both exciting and deeply rewarding.

Our industry holds a wealth of institutional knowledge within legacy dealers, and our generation has an opportunity to carry that wisdom forward while adapting it to modern building practices. As design and construction have evolved, we are well-positioned to integrate shading systems with HVAC, lighting, security and other building technologies. By bridging experience with innovation, our generation can advance dealer capabilities while also driving progress in motor, control and manufacturing markets across the industry.

What opportunities do you think the industry should be paying more attention to right now?

What’s one lesson or piece of advice that’s guided your success so far?

There is a significant opportunity in the commercial sector to better understand the engineering impact of window treatments on thermal and mechanical performance. The potential capital savings from optimized shading systems can far outweigh their cost, yet this remains underexplored. Addressing this gap requires long-term data and collaboration across stakeholders. By working with academic partners and manufacturers, we are focused on applying research to real-world design solutions that integrate automated shading into building performance from the start.

We aim to hire professionals who allow us to implement and maintain our company's standard of technical knowledge. Building the right team is the highest priority for us, and it’s been an honor to watch our team learn this industry and excel in the environment we have built, and the environment we will continue to foster as our businesses grow.

What inspires you most in your work right now, and how does that influence your approach to design or business?

What role do you see your generation playing in shaping the future of the window covering industry?

I’m inspired by the people and stories behind every home we serve along the Oregon Coast. Seeing how thoughtful design can make spaces more comfortable and reflective of the community keeps me grounded in doing business with heart. I prioritize relationships, quality and long-term value over quick wins, focusing on creating homes that bring joy and ease to our clients while contributing positively to the beauty, character, and well-being of our coastal towns.

Our generation is redefining leadership in the window covering industry by blending craftsmanship and customer care with technology, sustainability and transparency. We are modernizing processes through automation and design visualization while preserving the personal relationships that make this business meaningful. By bridging traditional service with digital innovation, we are shaping a future that is more connected, efficient and customer-focused, creating lasting value for clients while elevating how the industry operates and evolves.

What opportunities do you think the industry should be paying more attention to right now?

What’s one lesson or piece of advice that’s guided your success so far?

The biggest opportunity is storytelling. Showing homeowners how much window coverings can elevate their space beyond just function. Design, technology and sustainability all have roles to play, but people connect most with purpose. There’s a growing need to educate clients about energy efficiency, wellness and the comfort that comes with high-quality, locally supported products. When our industry leans into that story, it not only grows stronger but also builds lasting trust with customers.

Never lose sight of people. Every success we’ve had has come from listening to our clients, our team and our community. Growth happens when you stay grounded in service and integrity. My guiding principle has always been: Do the right thing, even when no one’s watching. The reputation, trust and impact that follow are what truly define success.

JOHN JOHN RITT, AGE 34, SENIOR BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER BUILT BY BLOC, CHICAGO, ILLINOIS John Ritt is a seasoned professional in the window covering industry, bringing nearly a decade of experience within the Hunter Douglas group after beginning his career in 2015 with Timberblinds. In his role at Built By Bloc, John leads the development and growth of the company’s commercial division, BlocPro. With deep industry knowledge and a results-driven approach, he focuses on expanding commercial opportunities and building strong partnerships within the architectural and design communities.

What inspires you most in your work right now, and how does that influence your approach to design or business?

What role do you see your generation playing in shaping the future of the window covering industry?

I genuinely enjoy the challenges of helping customers land a big project and grow their commercial businesses. Being from Chicago, I've always admired and appreciated architecture. I feel a sense of pride when I'm able to point out buildings that I helped dealers land.

Technology comes to mind first. Shades tell so much of a building’s story, from light control, thermal control to occupant comfort. I think in the next few years, you will see shades evolve even more, expanding into different markets.

What opportunities do you think the industry should be paying more attention to right now?

What’s one lesson or piece of advice that’s guided your success so far?

I think that post-sale shade management is a huge opportunity. Shades are an asset to a building, but oftentimes forgotten after installation. My hope is that our industry continues to do more studies on shade maintenance that will lead to healthier buildings, better air quality and improved occupant comfort.

Always control what you can control. Our industry, like many others, has gone through significant changes over the last decade, from cordless legislation, COVID challenges to tariff pricing pressures. The one constant is your relationship with your customer; always answer your phone and be there for them!

With a background rooted in both artistry and client care, she ensures each project is executed with exceptional quality, craftsmanship and clear communication. Jordan is excited to continue growing with Vitalia Inc., contributing her unique perspective, collaborative mindset and commitment to excellence to the firm’s continued success.

What inspires you most in your work right now, and how does that influence your approach to design or business?

What role do you see your generation playing in shaping the future of the window covering industry?

I’ve been inspired lately by the way art, fashion and design connect. Collecting art, noticing unique runway styles and exploring flea markets or vintage shops spark ideas around color, texture and detail. I love finding pieces with a story and giving them new life, seeing how past styles emerge in fresh, modern ways. That blend of old and new keeps me curious and creative and continues to shape how I approach design.

I think my generation brings a fresh sense of creativity to the window covering industry. We value craftsmanship and quality, but are also drawn to sustainability and modern design. There’s something exciting about mixing traditional approaches with new materials and ideas to make spaces that feel both functional and personal. It’s cool to see how our generation is reimagining timeless craftsmanship in ways that feel true to how people live today.

What opportunities do you think the industry should be paying more attention to right now?

What’s one lesson or piece of advice that’s guided your success so far?

I think there’s a big opportunity in helping people see window treatments as more than just something for privacy and light control—they’re a huge part of how a space feels. There’s room to explore more exciting colors, layered textures and fresh shapes that bring a little personality and energy into a space. I also think people connect with pieces that are made well—the materials, the process, the craftsmanship. When something’s made with care, it adds character to a space in a way that feels natural and real.

I’ve only been in the window covering industry for a couple of years now, so there have been countless lessons along the way. One of the biggest, I’d say, is not to rush anything. I try to let every project and challenge teach and inspire something new. Slowing down and staying curious has shaped the way I work and how I approach each project. When you take the time to really listen and understand what people are drawn to, the design always comes together in a more meaningful way.

Continuous learning through conventions and educational events is a major opportunity for the industry. Seminars at expos and conferences show that genuine engagement matters more than large but hollow followings. Authentic storytelling consistently outperforms polished advertising. By showcasing behind-the-scenes processes, craftsmanship and real collaboration with designers, brands can build stronger connections. Social media works best when it reflects the quality and care behind the product. Focusing on education, authenticity and community helps elevate the industry and build lasting relationships.

One of the most valuable lessons guiding my success is taking time to pause and acknowledge progress. Reflecting regularly on accomplishments, whether launching campaigns or building designer relationships, helps prevent work from feeling like an endless cycle. Celebrating milestones through rest, small rewards or time with others supports motivation and creativity. Giving myself grace and appreciating how far I have come, instead of focusing only on what lies ahead, has been essential to avoiding burnout and sustaining longterm passion.

What opportunities do you think the industry should be paying more attention to right now?

What’s one lesson or piece of advice that’s guided your success so far?

One of the biggest opportunities in the industry is using AI and automation to deliver scalable personalization. These tools allow businesses to create custom, authentic client experiences without relying on inefficient manual processes. AI can support faster design decisions, anticipate preferences and improve project accuracy, while automation streamlines backend tasks. The goal is not to replace the human touch, but to enhance it by freeing time for creativity and client relationships. Companies that combine design expertise with intelligent systems will lead the industry forward.

One of the biggest lessons guiding my success came from growing up in a true family business. My mother taught me the fundamentals of entrepreneurship, from building relationships to making confident decisions, while my father instilled a deep appreciation for design, textiles and craftsmanship. Those early experiences shaped my eye for detail and quality and taught me that lasting success comes from balancing creativity with strategy. That blend of business discipline and design passion continues to guide every decision I make today.
