y Peel of Chipley, Fla., has been appointed Executive Vice President & CEO of West Florida Electric Cooperative by its board of trustees. He has also been elected to represent West Florida Electric Cooperative (WFEC) on the PowerSouth Board of Trustees. Peel was unanimously appointed by the board of trustees during the co-op’s January board meeting. Peel has worked at WFEC for 37 years in various positions and capacities including Interim EVP & CEO. He served in the United States Marine Corps and Air Force Special Operations, and he served in Operation Enduring Freedom. He studied at Embry-Riddle University and Vincennes University. He is a Certified Utility Safety Administrator and a graduate of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association’s (NRECA) Management Internship Program. He is also a private pilot. Peel is a Capital City Bank board member, past Chairman of the Tri-County Airport Board, and he served on the Orange Hill Soil & Water Conservation Board. Trustee Elections Around the Corner
I
t’s that time of year again. Ballots and election materials for West Florida Electric Cooperative’s Board of Trustee Elections will be mailed on Thursday, March 28. Each WFEC member’s voting packet will arrive in an envelope marked: “Annual Election Materials.” This packet will contain everything you will need to exercise your voting rights as a member-owner of WFEC. Seats on the board in Districts 1, 2 and 3 are up for election this year. To be eligible to serve on the Board of Trustees, a candidate must be a member of the cooperative, reside in the respective district and meet certain requirements set forth in WFEC’s bylaws. Some qualifications include the ability to become bonded, capability of receiving emails and successfully meeting all the requirements needed to become a National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) Credentialed Cooperative Director within 36 months of being elected. Trustees serve a three-year term. Each election packet will contain a booklet of information which includes: • A letter from Carr, Riggs & Ingram • Official notice of the Annual Meeting/Member Appreciation Day • Minutes of the 2018 Annual Meeting • An agenda for the 2019 Annual Meeting • Candidate profiles
• A voter checklist • Registration card • The election packets will also include a ballot and a postage-paid return envelope. Ballots are due back by Wednesday, April 17, and should be received no later than 5:00 p.m. Ballots received after this deadline will be declared invalid. Do not deliver your ballot to any WFEC office. Please follow the voting procedures listed in the packet you will receive.

Submitted by: Shirley Wilkins Ingredients: 1 box Jiffy corn bread mix 2/3 cup milk 1 egg 1/2 cup oil 8 oz. sour cream 1/2 cup margarine 1 can cream corn 2 large onions, steamed (vidalia are best)
Directions: Mix corn bread mix with milk, egg and oil then spread into a 9x13 inch greased pan. Steam the onions, cut and add to mixture. Mix together sour cream, margarine and corn. Pour over top of entire mixture and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

junior from Altha School, Jackson Goins and Chipley High School junior, Karleigh Walters were named West Florida Electric’s Youth Tour competition winners on February 25. Megan Blaylock from Marianna High School was named the alternate. These students will represent WFEC on the National Rural Electric Youth Tour June 15-20, traveling to Washington, D.C. with over 30 other Florida students to join over 1,600 high school juniors representing co-ops from across the country. Thirteen area students participated in the Youth Tour program this year. They were: Jackson Goins, Altha School; Leah Lewis, Bethlehem School; Isabelle Holloway, Blountstown High School; Karleigh Walters, Chipley High School; Mary Haser, Cottondale High School; Joshua Wesley, Graceville High School; Katherine Albury, Holmes County High School; Reilly Blighton, Malone School; Megan Blaylock, Marianna High School; Lydia Dixon, Poplar Springs School; Colby Bryan, Ponce De Leon High School; Maegan Lucas, Sneads High School and Mikayla Cotton, Vernon High School.
The cooperative’s Board of Trustees has created a scholarship program linked to Youth Tour participation. Each year, a scholarship of $4,000 to Chipola College is awarded to the highest scoring participant from each county. Participants are ranked on a scale of 100 points using a panel interview process and the following categories: Communication Skills, Knowledge of Subject, Personality, Community Service and Poise/ Appearance. Those scholarship recipients were: Jackson Goins, Calhoun County; Katherine Albury, Holmes County; Megan Blaylock, Jackson County and Karleigh Walters, Washington County. The Washington, D.C. Youth Tour Program has been in existence since 1957 when co-ops sent students to Washington, D.C. to work during the summer. By 1964, the program caught on, and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) began to coordinate the efforts of the co-ops. Since then, thousands of young people have experienced this opportunity. WFEC has participated in the Youth Tour since 1979, sending two students to Washington, D.C. each year since. Submitted by: Shirley Wilkins Ingredients: 1 box Jiffy corn bread mix 2/3 cup milk 1 egg 1/2 cup oil 8 oz. sour cream 1/2 cup margarine 1 can cream corn 2 large onions, steamed (vidalia are best)
Directions: Mix corn bread mix with milk, egg and oil then spread into a 9x13 inch greased pan. Steam the onions, cut and add to mixture. Mix together sour cream, margarine and corn. Pour over top of entire mixture and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

Trustee Elections Around the Corner
I
t’s that time of year again. Ballots and election materials for West Florida Electric Cooperative’s Board of Trustee Elections will be mailed on Thursday, March 28. Each WFEC member’s voting packet will arrive in an envelope marked: “Annual Election Materials.” This packet will contain everything you will need to exercise your voting rights as a member-owner of WFEC. Seats on the board in Districts 1, 2 and 3 are up for election this year. To be eligible to serve on the Board of Trustees, a candidate must be a member of the cooperative, reside in the respective district and meet certain requirements set forth in WFEC’s bylaws. Some qualifications include the ability to become bonded, capability of receiving emails and successfully meeting all the requirements needed to become a National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) Credentialed Cooperative Director within 36 months of being elected. Trustees serve a three-year term. Each election packet will contain a booklet of information which includes: • A letter from Carr, Riggs & Ingram • Official notice of the Annual Meeting/Member Appreciation Day • Minutes of the 2018 Annual Meeting • An agenda for the 2019 Annual Meeting • Candidate profiles
• A voter checklist • Registration card • The election packets will also include a ballot and a postage-paid return envelope. Ballots are due back by Wednesday, April 17, and should be received no later than 5:00 p.m. Ballots received after this deadline will be declared invalid. Do not deliver your ballot to any WFEC office. Please follow the voting procedures listed in the packet you will receive.

He has also been elected to represent West Florida Electric Cooperative (WFEC) on the PowerSouth Board of Trustees. Peel was unanimously appointed by the board of trustees during the co-op’s January board meeting. Peel has worked at WFEC for 37 years in various positions and capacities including Interim EVP & CEO. He served in the United States Marine Corps and Air Force Special Operations, and he served in Operation Enduring Freedom. He studied at Embry-Riddle University and Vincennes University. He is a Certified Utility Safety Administrator and a graduate of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association’s (NRECA) Management Internship Program. He is also a private pilot.
