WFEC Board Approves Reduction in Rate Components
W
est Florida Electric Cooperative (WFEC) is proud to announce a difference in your monthly electric bill caused by a decrease in fuel costs to our power supplier, PowerSouth Energy Cooperative. This reduction in rate components took place in January 2016. WFEC’s power cost adjustment is changing from -$3.50 to -$8.70. This means that the RUSSELL DUNAWAY average WFEC member will notice a net Executive VP/CEO decrease of about $5.20 on their monthly electric bill. A power cost adjustment is a modification on a member’s monthly electric bill caused by an increase or decrease in the cost of an electric utility’s fuel supply. This cost fluctuates as fuel costs increase or decrease and is adjusted semi-annually. 23613006 At this time, fuel costs are lower than anticipated or projected, so the charge will decrease and these savings will be passed along to WFEC members. As the price of fuel changes, so will this charge. The average price for 1,000 kWh will decrease from $132.14 to $126.94 per month and remains lower than the investor-owned utilities’ rates in the area. This rate level was last seen eight years ago in 2008. This reduction is another example of how the Board of Trustees’ decision to utilize PowerSouth as our wholesale power provider has benefited the coop and its members. 75360032 In addition to a drop in fuel prices, WFEC has seen a reduction in twelve employees by attrition in 2015 and expect five more in 2016. Savings generated from this reduction in staff will assist in postponing future rate increases.

WFEC Announces Changes to H2O Plus Program
A
fter seven years, changes have come to WFEC’s H20 Plus water heater program. H2O Plus, which began in 2009 as a load management program offering qualifying WFEC members free water heaters and guaranteeing hot water for life has reached a point where it needs to evolve. Due to the saturation of the market with electric water heaters, their easy availability at local retailers and a reduction of staff at each office, WFEC has determined that it is no longer financially feasible for the cooperative to bear the entire cost of each water heater, maintain a large inventory and promise hot water for life to members who accept the load control device. 26629003 Qualifying members will still be able to acquire a water heater from WFEC and all members who currently fall under the “hot water for life” guarantee will still fall under that category. Here’s how it will work: 1) WFEC will determine which members have previously been promised “hot water for life” and these accounts will be noted. A list of these members will be kept on hand for office employees who work with the H20 Plus program. 2) WFEC will still maintain a small supply of water heaters in each district office. This supply will be used to fulfill the needs of the members who were promised “hot water for life” should they require a new water heater. 3) Members who request assistance with a water heater will be given the requirements for water heaters that qualify for WFEC’s new H20 Plus rebate program. 4) Members may elect to purchase their water heater from local retailers, or from WFEC. After its purchase, the member will have the water heater installed and provide WFEC with a copy of their receipt of purchase. WFEC will then arrange for a contractor to install the load control device on the water heater. Once this device is installed, the member will be provided with a $75 rebate as a credit on their electric bill on any water heater over 50 gallons. 5) Members who purchase their water heater from a local retailer must provide a receipt which shows the name of the store, size of the unit, model and serial number, the energy factor and the total amount paid. 6) Should the member elect to purchase their new water heater from the cooperative, the member will purchase and collect their water heater from any WFEC district office. WFEC will stock 50 gallon water heaters at a cost of $375 each. The member is responsible for having the water heater installed and notifying WFEC of the CURRENT LIGHT FLASHES

2016 Youth Tour and Scholarship Recipients Announced

hipley High School junior, Lauren Kinman and Altha School junior, Seth Alday were named West Florida Electric’s Youth Tour competition winners on Thursday, March 3. Hillary Oliver of Sneads was named the alternate. These students will represent WFEC on the National Rural Electric Youth Tour June 11-16, traveling to Washington, D.C. with over 30 other Florida students to join over 1,500 high school juniors representing co-ops from across the country. Nine area students participated in the local Youth Tour trip to Tallahassee. They were: Seth Alday, Altha School; Citlali Gutierrez, Blountstown High School; Lauren Kinman, Chipley High School; Brad Vickery, Cottondale High School; Case Birge, Graceville High School; Emilee Crawford, Holmes County High School; Yakira Taylor, Malone School; Kellie Coatney, Poplar Springs School and Hillary Oliver, Sneads High School. This year, the cooperative’s Board of Trustees created a scholarship program linked to Youth Tour participation. Each year, a scholarship of $4,000 to Chipola College will be awarded to the highest scoring participant from each county. Participants are ranked on a scale of 100 points using a panel interview process and the following categories: Communication Skills, Knowledge of Subject, Personality, Community Service and Poise/Appearance. Those scholarship recipients were: Seth Alday, Calhoun County; Lauren Kinman, Washington County; Emilee Crawford, Holmes County and Hillary Oliver, Jackson County. The Washington, D.C. Youth Tour Program has been in existence since 1957 when co-ops sent students to Washington, D.C. to work during the summer. By 1964, the program caught on, and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) began to coordinate the efforts of the co-ops. Since then, thousands of young people have experienced this opportunity. 2016 Youth Tour and Scholarship Recipients Announced
C
hipley High School junior, Lauren Kinman and Altha School junior, Seth Alday were named West Florida Electric’s Youth Tour competition winners on Thursday, March 3. Hillary Oliver of Sneads was named the alternate. These students will represent WFEC on the National Rural Electric Youth Tour June 11-16, traveling to Washington, D.C. with over 30 other Florida students to join over 1,500 high school juniors representing co-ops from across the country. Nine area students participated in the local Youth Tour trip to Tallahassee. They were: Seth Alday, Altha School; Citlali Gutierrez, Blountstown High School; Lauren Kinman, Chipley High School; Brad Vickery, Cottondale High School; Case Birge, Graceville High School; Emilee Crawford, Holmes County High School; Yakira Taylor, Malone School; Kellie Coatney, Poplar Springs School and Hillary Oliver, Sneads High School. This year, the cooperative’s Board of Trustees created a scholarship program linked to Youth Tour participation. Each year, a scholarship of $4,000 to Chipola College will be awarded to the highest scoring participant from each county. Participants are ranked on a scale of 100 points using a panel interview process and the following categories: Communication Skills, Knowledge of Subject, Personality, Community Service and Poise/Appearance. Those scholarship recipients were: Seth Alday, Calhoun County; Lauren Kinman, Washington County; Emilee Crawford, Holmes County and Hillary Oliver, Jackson County. The Washington, D.C. Youth Tour Program has been in existence since 1957 when co-ops sent students to Washington, D.C. to work during the summer. By 1964, the program caught on, and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) began to coordinate the efforts of the co-ops. WFEC Announces Changes to H2O Plus Program
A
fter seven years, changes have come to WFEC’s H20 Plus water heater program. H2O Plus, which began in 2009 as a load management program offering qualifying WFEC members free water heaters and guaranteeing hot water for life has reached a point where it needs to evolve. Due to the saturation of the market with electric water heaters, their easy availability at local retailers and a reduction of staff at each office, WFEC has determined that it is no longer financially feasible for the cooperative to bear the entire cost of each water heater, maintain a large inventory and promise hot water for life to members who accept the load control device. 26629003 Qualifying members will still be able to acquire a water heater from WFEC and all members who currently fall under the “hot water for life” guarantee will still fall under that category. Here’s how it will work: 1) WFEC will determine which members have previously been promised “hot water for life” and these accounts will be noted. A list of these members will be kept on hand for office employees who work with the H20 Plus program. 2) WFEC will still maintain a small supply of water heaters in each district office. This supply will be used to fulfill the needs of the members who were promised “hot water for life” should they require a new water heater. 3) Members who request assistance with a water heater will be given the requirements for water heaters that qualify for WFEC’s new H20 Plus rebate program. 4) Members may elect to purchase their water heater from local retailers, or from WFEC. After its purchase, the member will have the water heater installed and provide WFEC with a copy of their receipt of purchase. WFEC will then arrange for a contractor to install the load control device on the water heater. Once this device is installed, the member will be provided with a $75 rebate as a credit on their electric bill on any water heater over 50 gallons. 5) Members who purchase their water heater from a local retailer must provide a receipt which shows the name of the store, size of the unit, model and serial number, the energy factor and the total amount paid. 6) Should the member elect to purchase their new water heater from the cooperative, the member will purchase and collect their water heater from any WFEC district office. WFEC will stock 50 gallon water heaters at a cost of $375 each. The member is responsible for having the water heater installed and notifying WFEC of the CURRENT LIGHT FLASHES

WFEC Board Approves Reduction in Rate Components
W
est Florida Electric Cooperative (WFEC) is proud to announce a difference in your monthly electric bill caused by a decrease in fuel costs to our power supplier, PowerSouth Energy Cooperative. This reduction in rate components took place in January 2016. WFEC’s power cost adjustment is changing from -$3.50 to -$8.70. This means that the RUSSELL DUNAWAY average WFEC member will notice a net Executive VP/CEO decrease of about $5.20 on their monthly electric bill. A power cost adjustment is a modification on a member’s monthly electric bill caused by an increase or decrease in the cost of an electric utility’s fuel supply. This cost fluctuates as fuel costs increase or decrease and is adjusted semi-annually. 23613006 At this time, fuel costs are lower than anticipated or projected, so the charge will decrease and these savings will be passed along to WFEC members. As the price of fuel changes, so will this charge. The average price for 1,000 kWh will decrease from $132.14 to $126.94 per month and remains lower than the investor-owned utilities’ rates in the area. This rate level was last seen eight years ago in 2008. This reduction is another example of how the Board of Trustees’ decision to utilize PowerSouth as our wholesale power provider has benefited the coop and its members. 75360032 In addition to a drop in fuel prices, WFEC has seen a reduction in twelve employees by attrition in 2015 and expect five more in 2016. Savings generated from this reduction in staff will assist in postponing future rate increases.
