t’s very important for WFEC members to keep their account information updated. You might be wondering why we ask our members to do this every year. The simple answer is for outage restoration purposes. But have you considered that there are other reasons you should always keep your account information up-to-date? Here's why it’s important to maintain your account information: Security - each time members request a service or sets up a new account, the last four digits of the social security number listed on the account are verified. The correct mailing address and a good phone number are also needed when setting up new service or requesting a change or addition to the services the cooperative is already providing. Safety - having the correct contact number listed on your account is very important - especially if a hazardous situation occurs at your location. This is particularly important if it is a vacation home, campsite, or if you live out of town. Finances - because the cooperative disperses deceased capital credits, it helps the heirs of an estate if the information on the decedent’s account is correct. There are times when someone remarries and does not change their name. In this case, the heirs have to provide a proof of a name change and it puts more burden on them to gather the additional documents needed. Outage restoration - this is a way you can assist WFEC personnel with our power restoration efforts. If the automated system answers your call to report an outage, and you are calling from a different number than is listed on your account, the system won’t recognize your location. This could delay your power restoration during a storm. You don’t want that to happen and neither do we, so please make sure all of your account information is completely up-to-date. 62977002 There are several ways to update your info with WFEC: 1) Call any of our district offices to make simple changes like phone numbers or addresses. 2) You can also update your information using our website. Here’s how: Visit www.westflorida.coop and look for the “Manage Your Account” field. Use your username and password to log in (if this is the first time you are using this service, you must call the office to get a username and password) and follow the prompts to enter the member portal. Once there, click on the “My Account” tab, then select the “Account Profile” option and update any phone numbers associated with your account. You can also update your address and other account information under this tab. 3) Call (855) MYWFECA and select option #4 to update or change your phone number. 4) Speak with a member services representative next time you are in the office and have them assist you with changing your information.

Make brine with salt & water. 1/2 cup salt to one gallon water (will float an egg when ready). Wash cucumbers good & slice. Soak in brine for 24 hours. Remove from brine and wash 4 times in cold water. Then cover the cucumbers in vinegar (white or apple cider). Soak 24 hours. Remove from vinegar. Do not wash, just drain in sink. Add 2 inches of cucumbers in a jar and 2 inches of sugar with pickle spice on top.

Hot Tips to Cool Down Your Summer Energy Consumption

ummer is here and the temps are high. You may have noticed a slight increase in your latest electric bill due to warmer temperatures. That’s most likely because your air conditioner is running full-force to keep you comfortable. According to the Department of Energy (DOE), air conditioning accounts for as much as 50 percent of the average home’s energy use during summer months. However, proper service, maintenance and smart use of your home’s cooling system will help you keep your energy costs in check. Having your air conditioner unit serviced by a licensed HVAC contractor is very important to ensure your unit is operating at peak efficiency. They should also inspect your duct work annually. Leaky ducts can reduce your efficiency by as much as 20 percent. Clearing obstructions away from the air return and trimming brush and weeds away from the outdoor units to ensure good air flow is also something that is important for the unit to perform as it should. Changing the air filters inside your home on a monthly basis can not only reduce the strain on your cooling system, but it can also improve your home’s air quality. The DOE also recommends that you set your home’s thermostat as high as possible while still maintaining a comfortable environment. For every one degree you raise or lower your thermostat, you increase or decrease your energy costs by one percent. West Florida Electric Cooperative (WFEC) energy services personnel recommends a thermostat setting of at least 78 degrees during summer months. On an annual basis, the typical in-ground pool can account for one-quarter of a household’s energy bill. 51692002 One reason pool pumps may use this much energy is because they are running much longer than actually needed. Circulating your pool’s water does keep the chemicals mixed and the debris removed but as long as the water circulates while the chemicals are added, they should remain mixed so it isn’t necessary to re-circulate the water each day. Most debris can be removed with a skimmer or vacuum instead of a pump. Using chemicals in the water and scrubbing pool walls are the best methods to remove algae. If you reduce your pool’s filtration time to just six hours, you can save. Running pool pumps during off-peak hours will also help reduce energy costs. In WFEC’s service area 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. is the best time frame to run a pool pump. Installing timers to control your pool pump is also a great way to save. Running the pool pump for several short intervals during the day can also help keep the pool cleaner. Make sure you also choose the smallest pump and the largest filter suitable for your pool size to help reduce your pool’s operating costs. Running a pool pump even one hour less per day helps save approximately 22 kilowatt hours per month.
