an you imagine life without electricity and the conveniences it affords us? I bet most of you can’t, and neither can I. But, rural residents in the early 1930s not only imagined it, they lived it. That is, until President Franklin D. Roosevelt created the Rural Electrification Administration in 1935. Executive Order 7037, part of Roosevelt’s New Deal, was the beginning of many electric cooperatives across the nation, like West Florida Electric Cooperative (WFEC). A group of local farmers and Jackson County residents formed WFEC in December 1937, filing its Articles of Incorporation on December 11, 1937 and holding its first meeting of incorporators and members on December 21, 1937. At this meeting, applications for membership in the cooperative were approved and bylaws were adopted. A president, A.J. Crutchfield was elected and other officers were also selected. This year, WFEC will celebrate 80 years of empowering its members. Do you remember when electricity was brought to your home for the very first time? How life was before that? s the New Year begins, it’s a time to start fresh. Have you considered that this time of year would be a great time to update all of your account information? Not just with West Florida Electric, but with any company with which you do business? Most of us never consider the importance of updating our information, but it is very important! Especially with your electric cooperative. Why? Because we use your telephone number to identify your account and location when there are outages. Have you called and our automated system answered? When the automated system answers your call, it’s because we are experiencing an extremely high volume due to an outage. 60153003 The first thing our system does is try to recognize your phone number and link it to an account and location. This helps us with our restoration efforts. If the automated system does answer, and you are calling from a different number than is listed on your account, the system won’t recognize your location. This could delay your power restoration during a storm. You don’t want that to happen and neither do we, so please make sure all of your account information is completely up-to-date. Another great reason to make sure your information is updated is for security purposes. Each time a member sets up a new account, the last four digits of the social security number listed on the account are verified. The correct mailing address and a good phone number are also needed when setting up new service or requesting a change or addition to the services the cooperative is providing. Safety is another very important reason the information on your account needs to be correct. Having accurate information on file at the

Directions: Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Pour melted butter into an undressed 13"x9" (3 quart) baking dish. Separate both cans of dough into 16 rolls & set icing aside. Cut each roll into 8 pieces and place them over the butter in the baking dish. In a medium bowl, beat eggs, cinnamon, vanilla & salt until well-blended. Gently pour mixture over the rolls & sprinkle with pecans. Drizzle with the syrup. Bake for 25 minutes until golden brown. Cool 15 minutes. Meanwhile, remove covers from icing and microwave on medium (50% power) for 10-15 seconds or until drizzling consistency. Drizzle the icing over the top of the casserole & sprinkle with powdered sugar. Spoon syrup from dish over individual servings. Service with additional syrup, if desired. Makes 6 servings.

Co-op Demonstrates Spirit of Giving

s a co-op, West Florida Electric Cooperative (WFEC) abides by the Seven Cooperative Principles – one of which is commitment to community. What better time than during the holiday season to do what we can to demonstrate our continued commitment to the communities we serve? Each year, WFEC hosts a Christmas party and awards banquet for its employees and their families. During this event the past several years, our co-op family has collected canned goods or toys for local organizations. This year, cooperative employees and their families collected two overflowing boxes full of donations for the local Toys for Tots organization. 42629005 “Commitment to community has become more than just a core value of Touchstone Energy Co-ops and one of the cooperative business model principals at West Florida Electric. When planning this year’s company Christmas party and awards banquet it wasn’t a matter of whether or not we should incorporate a way for our employees to demonstrate a spirit of giving, but how to do so - a food drive, a toy drive or collecting blankets or jackets for kids? Having worked with the employees of West Florida Electric for the past 29 years, I can say with confidence that they are much more excited about giving than receiving. They are always more than willing to give of themselves whether it is a community blood drive, a fundraiser for a charitable organization, coworker or member of the community battling cancer or other difficult life changing circumstances,” said Mullen. “I would like to say, personally, that they may not have given gold, frankincense or myrrh but the spirit behind the giving made this Christmas special to me. Thank you to all of our employees and their families,” he continued. Our employees and their families also enjoyed visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus and children wrote letters to Santa telling him what they wished for this Christmas during the event. Since this is the only time of year that our employees are all able to gather together in one room, the co-op uses this opportunity to present awards and recognize those individual employees who go above and beyond the call of duty. The awards presented during the event include service anniversary awards, outstanding service awards and of course, our employee of the year award.
This year, Shane Rustin, a journeyman line worker in the Graceville district was named 2016 West Florida Electric Cooperative’s Employee of the Year by his peers at the event held December 8. Rustin was chosen to receive this award by his co-workers because he best exemplifies the following traits: personality, punctuality, safety habits, team work, flexibility and outstanding performance on the job. 60012003 As a journeyman line worker, Rustin works on a construction crew that maintains the cooperative’s distribution system. His duties include building new electric services, performing work and maintenance on the cooperative’s power lines, often after hours, troubleshooting and working on energized power lines, when needed. Rustin started his career at WFEC in 1987 in the warehouse, washing trucks and performing other duties while he was still in high school. He was hired as a utility worker in the warehouse in 1989. He and his wife, Marie have been married since 2012 and have seven children together: Cody Rustin, 20; Kasey Rustin Spence, 27; Austin Peters, 18; Ann Marie Peters, 17; Abbie Peters, 14; Kaden Spence, 6 and Kyle Spence, 3. s the New Year begins, it’s a time to start fresh. Have you considered that this time of year would be a great time to update all of your account information? Not just with West Florida Electric, but with any company with which you do business? Most of us never consider the importance of updating our information, but it is very important! Especially with your electric cooperative. Why? Because we use your telephone number to identify your account and location when there are outages. Have you called and our automated system answered? When the automated system answers your call, it’s because we are experiencing an extremely high volume due to an outage. 60153003 The first thing our system does is try to recognize your phone number and link it to an account and location. This helps us with our restoration efforts. If the automated system does answer, and you are calling from a different number than is listed on your account, the system won’t recognize your location. This could delay your power restoration during a storm. You don’t want that to happen and neither do we, so please make sure all of your account information is completely up-to-date. Another great reason to make sure your information is updated is for security purposes. Each time a member sets up a new account, the last four digits of the social security number listed on the account are verified. The correct mailing address and a good phone number are also needed when setting up new service or requesting a change or addition to the services the cooperative is providing. Safety is another very important reason the information on your account needs to be correct. Having accurate information on file at the

an you imagine life without electricity and the conveniences it affords us? I bet most of you can’t, and neither can I. But, rural residents in the early 1930s not only imagined it, they lived it. That is, until President Franklin D. Roosevelt created the Rural Electrification Administration in 1935. Executive Order 7037, part of Roosevelt’s New Deal, was the beginning of many electric cooperatives across the nation, like West Florida Electric Cooperative (WFEC). A group of local farmers and Jackson County residents formed WFEC in December 1937, filing its Articles of Incorporation on December 11, 1937 and holding its first meeting of incorporators and members on December 21, 1937. At this meeting, applications for membership in the cooperative were approved and bylaws were adopted. A president, A.J. Crutchfield was elected and other officers were also selected.
